🚆 4K Farewell cab ride to the oldest locomotive in service (Cab Ride | IC4 Singen (D) - Zürich)

Very soon, the service of the Re 420 in passenger traffic will be mostly over. Of course, the modernized Re 420 HVZ will stay and probably a few of the classic Re 420 for occasional tasks. Their usage has steadily reduced over the past few years and will soon come to an end. Right in the beginning of the video, you can see one reason why: The delivery of new trains slowly pushes the older ones out of service. Let's take this opportunity to ride the Re 420 one last time, at least in passenger traffic.
Welcome aboard the InterCity 4 service in Singen am Hohentwiel, Germany! We've never driven this direction before and it is a beautiful day, I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I did when filming it. After we depart Germany, we will ride non-stop to Schaffhausen, one of the northernmost cities in Switzerland. Followed by a beautiful journey along the famous Rhine Falls, we will again enter Germany shortly, passing Jestetten and Lottstetten, before we are back in Switzerland. A non-stop ride to Zurich Main station lies ahead of us, where we stop the train and push the locomotive against the carriages. It will then be uncoupled by a colleague. Railway operations as it used to be for more than a hundred years comes to an end with modern trains. Sit back and enjoy the ride!

    I made several trips to Zürich in the mid 1990s and would always stay in the Schweizerhof hotel across from the Hbf. I would walk to the station and out one of the platforms and watch the ballet of loco hauled trains pulling in, having the locomotives changed out, and departing in a couple of minutes. It was wonderful to watch; this video warms my heart with those memories of these loks.

    Anmerkung: Nur auf dieser DB-Strecke durfte die Re 4/4 II ihre zulässige Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 140 km/h zwischen Singen (Hohentwiel) und Thayngen ausfahren, da hier der SBB-Stromabnehmer angehoben ist. Bei Fahrt mit dem 1950 mm breiten DB-Stromabnehmer beträgt deren zulässige Höchstgeschwindigkeit lediglich 120 km/h.

    Yes, a locomotive with 6 or more coaches in its wake is so pleasing to look at. I think it is the long sweep of windows between the end doors which creates it. Not like the modern stock which has doors at ¼ and ¾ length positions. That is so like the commuter stock which prevails nowadays. Those Re 420s have been around for as long as I have been interested in railways. I'm sure they will be missed, but not by modernists.

    Agreed, an excellent day and time of day to catch the run in this direction - 2 things stand out - firstly we get a handy view of the adventure park near the Rhine Falls - secondly we see that that the first neutral section is on a fast stretch South of Thayngen - that must give rise to a knotty problem for the two railway administrations, accounting for the power usage of the various services - the issue may well balance out elsewhere - feel sure you have anecdotal knowledge of the resolution - thanks anyway for filling this gap in the series \m/

    It's probably the perfect spot for the section. There is no need to brake or accelerate, since there are no stations or signals anywhere near or just after the neutral section.

    @@RailwayEmotions that spot is indeed optimal, from a technical POV - however that means that S-Bahn Zürich operates in and out of Thayngen on German current - the question then is whether VVZ simply pays DB Netz infrastructure tariffs pro rata for each trip as any EVU might or is there a compensatory arrangement across another D-CH boundary? I noticed a Seehas unit in Jestetten - does that run trips deeper into German railway territory to balance the usage? \m/

    Lovely trip as always. Nice to see a Railjet on the parallel approach to Zurich. Do those double decker DB IC trainsets go all the way to Zurich now? Have they been made compatible with the Swiss catenary?

    Ein Tipp suche unter fahrplanfelder/grafische Fahrpläne im Internet da gibt es ein bisschen Streckenangaben diese sind öffentlich auch für fotojäger nützlich da auch der Güter und dienstverkehr abgebildet ist

    Did we just pass over the Rhine River on that long bridge starting at 28:46 in the video? By the way, this locomotives was likely modernized some years ago--you don't hear the ticking sound of the Hasler speedometer.

    Yes, that is the Rhine river further down and you are also correct with the ticking, some locomotives have received a newer speedometer in the past.

    Dienstfahrplan wird kritisch sein wegen Datenschutz / Sicherheit. Aber tatsächlich, es gibt kein einziges Video über Schweizer Bahnsignale. Dabei hat sich da einiges in Richtung modern getan. Grüsse zurück nach GB usem Ditsche (Badische).

    Die Streckentabelle ist nur für den internen Gebrauch, ich darf sie nicht veröffentlichen. Ohnehin dreht sich in meinen Videos alles um die Aussicht, nicht um technische Belange. Daher werden auch künftig keine Bedienhandlungen gezeigt. Trotzdem hoffe ich, dass dir die Videos gefallen.
