[4k] Caltrain Cab Ride on Train
Enjoy Caltrain's Limited 4 train #403 from Gilroy to San Francisco on June 14th, 2024. I finally got to filming the entire route before it will be impossible to film from this POV in September due to Caltrain's electrification. Recording was done by a GoPro Hero 10 on June 14, 2024 from 5:52am Pacific Daylight Time to 7:58am Pacific Daylight Time on Caltrain #403, in JPBX Gallery Cab Car 4019.
Note: My prior video was not uploaded in 4k, so this one is a update to that.

Probably because the audio didn't get quite clear enough on the speaker.
Just in time for the cab ride on the Caltrain and some great scenery to look at out of the windows take care and thanks.🇺🇲🚈🇺🇲
2:50 >1 track This is going to be tough for CAHSR

The plan is to add 1-2 new tracks for three total in the corridor between Gilroy and San Jose, two electrified for HSR and Caltrain and one non-electrified for UP and Amtrak. That probably won’t start until CAHSR begins construction on its Merced-San Jose segment, which likely won’t be until the early 2030s (depends on when and how quickly it’s funded).
A much better video in 4K!
You should make live cab rides that would be amazing

You keep telling me that, but I can't do that. Caltrain wouldn't be okay with that, and I'm not sure I have the ability to set up a live stream.
What are the interlockings between Gilroy and Tamien?

I think that there are only 4, 1 in Gilroy, 2 in Morgan hill, and 1 near Blossom hill

I'm surprised Caltrain didn't extend overhead catenary all the way to Gilroy!!

Very few trains per day, so it wouldn’t make sense

@@timectrl I guess Caltrain is watching their operating costs, esp. after the money they spent on electrification between Tamien and San Fran!!

The tracks From CP Lick to Gilroy belong to UP and they dont want it electrified. For the same reason that main track one from CP Coast in Santa Clara to Tamien doesn't have any catenary.

@@ianj7194 Ian will you learn to operate the new electrics?
Will Caltrain be running electric trains on the weekends in test runs quite a bit? Even during the week.

@@timectrl How do you tell apart LRQ30 and LRQ50. Are they both seen in the evening? Burlingame for example. One uses SD59MX’s and other GP60’s I think. About what time can I expect to see those?

@@3985uprrLRQ50 and *LSF51. LRQ50 can be seen entering the peninsula at around 4-8PM and usually reaches the Redwood City junction at around 5-9pm. On Mondays (as needed), Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, the LRQ50 makes its way up to the South City yard to preform switching operations, before making its southbound return trip later in the night. The LSF51 uses GP60s, sometimes GP40s and other variants. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, It switches cars in South City yard before taking its train to the Redwood City yard, at around 10-11am It will street run down Chestnut street as it makes its way to the RWC port. After serving the port it will make its return trip to SSF yard, usually at around 12-3PM. In summary, if you are at any given station. Be prepared for the LRQ50 to pass at 4-8PM northbound, and 6-11PM going southbound. If you are waiting for the LSF51, be prepared for it to pass at 9-11AM Southbound, and 1-3PM Northbound. I apologize for the possible lack of grammar and punctuation, this was rather rushed…. ;)

@@PeninsulaTrainFan thanks a lot. There’s a good chance. I’ll see the LRQ 50 is. I’ll be in Burlingame or San Mateo on Monday evening. I take it September 21 is still the cut over to electric date.
