4K cab view - Takayama Line limited express train "HIDA" Nagoya station to Toyama station, Japan
The Hida (ひだ Hida) is a limited express train service operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) along the Takayama Main Line in central Japan. The service runs from Nagoya Station (with one service a day from Osaka Station rather than Nagoya) via Gifu and Gero stations to Takayama in just over two hours.
After typhoon Tokage in 2004, the track suffered major damage from flooding. As a result, instead of going all the way to Toyama Station, trains could only go as far as Hida-Furukawa Station until September 8, 2007, when the track was repaired and again reached all the way to Toyama Station.
The Takayama Main Line (高山本線 Takayama Honsen) is a Japanese railway line between Gifu Station in Gifu and Toyama Station in Toyama, operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) and West Japan Railway Company (JR West). The line directly links the Chūkyō Metropolitan Area (metropolitan Nagoya) and Hokuriku region in a shorter distance, but with a longer travel time, than by using the combination of the Tōkaidō Shinkansen and Hokuriku Main Line. Now the line primarily functions as a way to access the scenic areas of Hida (ancient Hida Province), in the rugged mountains of northern Gifu Prefecture, such as Gero onsen (hot spring), Takayama, Shirakawa-gō, and the Kiso River. The first section of the line, between Gifu and Kagamigahara, opened in 1920. The whole line was completed in 1934.

Absolutely beautiful! Japan in my opinion is the most beautiful country in the world..especially small villages. Thank you!
Wow.. Me and my wife travelled in this train in April 2019. Got down at Hida Furukawa. Enjoyed the yearly lively and lovely festival. The people were wonderful. Also pretty village. Then boarded again at Hida Furukawa for Toyama. Loved this train. Then enjoyed the snow-laden corridor.

Really enjoyed this journey, thanks for posting.
Hi railfan aunz, thank you my friend for providing me with this successful and pleasurable glimpse into the rail cars of Japan country, which has the most successful high-speed rails globally.
Wow! That ride had everything. I enjoyed every minute of that. Thanks!
Amazingly beautiful scenery
Beautiful scenery. Wish it were in early spring where you could see everything from the blooming spring flowers and foliage to maybe a possible snowfall. Too bad you don't get to see anything special during their festival in April. Keep up the good work, Railfan Aunz!Arigato!
Truly excellent…I had no idea that Japanese Railways had alpine type mountain railways! Superb engineering too…a great treat. Many thanks fromRob In Bournemouth on the south coast of England.
I'm almost a hour into it; I love the train sounds, they help me sleep, UNTIL the stupid public address system comes on at full volume !

Oh!

1:18:50 beautiful....i've taken this train before and it was by far the most memorable--more so than the shinkansen rides

It's one of the programs under JET (which is open to native English speakers from outside Japan), where you can be hired to record for various businesses (including bus and train networks) under a government contract. Although unlike the ALT side of JET, you need to be at least an N2 rating on the JLPT to qualify for that position.

60 tunnels What a lot of work that went into building that particular rail line. And given that line's age it wasn't an easy feat to plan and then dig out. Also there were two Yokai in the train, just staring at the camera. But only visible while in the tunnels. 58:24 `_ • • •••••••• Then later, about 2 thirds through the way, they suddenly change expression. Spooky 2:39:45 '________ • • ••••
Thanks for the Video , now i could go sleep in the midst of watching this video , no more sleep drugs
Missed riding this line from Nagoya to Toyama, usually riding this everytime, but eventually changed to bus much cheaper by bus. But the scenery on this line is Superb as always!
Good video, I took this train from toyama to nagoya, getting off in takayama.
Thank you!

I wish I knew a limited express was available. The one I rode stopped at every station and we had to wait 30 minutes for another train to pass. We took the Tokaido line from Hamamatsu and took the Takayama main line from Gifu. The whole trip took 11 hours. On the way back, we actually rode a bus to Nagoya and took the Tokaido line to Hamamatsu. The whole trip only took 8 hours. My back was killing me on the first trip and I’m never doing that again.
I assume that the horn blast at 2:24:05 is for the crossing with no signals that appears a few seconds later.
Beautiful Railway beautiful scenery
Interesting video. Notice the track switch blade change at 22:12
A lot of this reminds me of Appalachia in parts of eastern Kentucky and western West Virginia. I get why the Japanese have been interested in that area over the years because of the land.

i road this train from Nagoya to Takayama in may good to experiance it again from the drivers view rather than a passenger
A smooth and speedy ride through plains and hilly regions. This cab view is a good one as the driver was out of our viewing area, and our ride was thus not disturbed by his gestures and physical presence and movements. [Cab view trains should switch on their lights when in a tunnel, because you can't see a thing in the dark.]
thx railfan aunz san for your videos that i appreciate. But i find a little bit disturbing the view you chose for this video

Did you travel the route last Feb? My trip to Japan was ruined by this frigging Corona situation. I was supposed to be in Tokyo last April, then ride with the Shinkansen all the way down to Kagoshima. That all went wrong, though now I'm planning a new trip, possibly next fall.

Fahrt von Nagoya, Präf. Aichi, nach Toyama Station, Präf. Toyama.
How are you able to film from the inside of the train conductor ? Did they allowed you to do that?

Nice ride, but I wish you listed the stations.
Empty stations, empty seats. Is passenger rail in poor economic condition in Japan? From the appearance, there has been heavy investment in highways. People travel by highway now? .. (Edit) Lots of passengers waiting to get on at a station in the resort/historic city.
Another great Japanese cab view video from this channel! I was wondering, can anyone explain the large yellow structures on the river bank and either side of the line at 1:25:38?
@davel6683
They appear to be "can openers", structures that an over height vehicle would hit before the bridge. It took me a few tries to see, but it looks like there's another road lane under the big arms on the river side, and the arms on both sides are marked with the clearance height (3.8m on the hillside, 4.4 under the big arms).
