Between May 30th & 31st 2022, arguably the movement of the decade arrived into Prestwick Airport. 10 USAF A10 Warthogs and 2 USAF KC135 tankers. The A10s is more commonly known as America’s tank busters, which make the distinctive BRRRRTTTTTT sound, when it’s canons fire at targets. This is the first visit of an A10 into Prestwick since the late 1980s and the first into the British Isles since 2016.
This 10 A10C Warthog Squadron belong to the Maryland Air National guard. They were deployed in Northern and Eastern Europe, between 2nd-22nd May, as part of the Swift Response Exercise 2022. This exercise involves various militaries and these A10Cs were operating between Norway, Estonia, Latvia and North Macedonia. They were passing through on their return home, arriving from Riga, before departing the following day to Keflavik.
