The story behind this song is a simple question...
...What if Celestia never wrote back to Twilight?
Like, ever?
--------------------------------
So, it's been a while since I did a song with Relative1Pitch, and I thought it'd be a treat for you guys to hear his amazing violin work again, and he did an absolutely amazing job. We're both quite pleased with how it turned out, and we hope you enjoy it!
p.s. - This is what it sounds like when I'm recovering from having wisdom teeth pulled.
--------------------------------
The sad but amazingly beautiful artwork was done by DragonwolfRooke!
Really, I almost started tearing up when showed me the first sketch. But hey, we all cry, right?
...Right?
--------------------------------
Lyrics:
(v1)
It's getting hard to write
And late into the night
It's been while now, I toss the mail around
I hope you've been alright
(v2)
I'm eager just to know
Where, from this point, I go
'Cause I can tell you now, I've made my way around
But I never seem to grow
(chorus)
If you can see right through this letter
Then all the tears clearly shown
I guess it must be for the better
But I just thought I'd let you know
(v3)
Ink is running out
As midnight comes around
I guess I'll close it up, I think I've said enough
'Cause I'm just waiting for you now
(repeat chorus)
If you can see right through this letter
Then all the tears clearly shown
I guess it must be for the better
But I just thought I'd let you know
(chorus 2)
If you can see right through this letter
Then all the tears clearly shown
And still, I know you'll never answer
But I just thought I'd let you know
(background voices)
See right through me
Tears are surely shown
Never answer
Thought I'd let you know

This is a piece in 4everfreebrony's most iconic style, the chant. I feel like it's beautifully mixed with absolutely perfect instrumentals here. The chant itself is executed perfectly, the soft back-up vocalizing is a welcome complement, and nothing overpowers anything else - the song sounds rich and full without being overpowering or overly energetic, balanced without being lethargic. And it's an incredibly moving piece, most importantly of all. It feels deliberately repetitive, not unwelcomely so, much like how people turn sad truths around in their head repeatedly. The pacing on this is spot-on. Bravo.

As someone who has never cried from listening to music, I feel like I have to commend you for finally making me crack . The events described in this song are terrifying to imagine. Twilight losing Celestia is akin to someone losing their mother, teacher, and god. Losing one's family, faith, and passion in such a simple thing as a lack of responsive letters is the saddest thing I could possibly imagine. Well done.

It really seems like Twilight is just beaten down by all the shit she's gone through, all the stress, and all the responsibility. It's like that old saying: "Sometimes (she/he) will cry not because they are weak, but because they've been strong for too long"

Just discovered this song. God, it's so beautiful. And goes straight into my heart For my best internet friend had disappeared... She stopped writing me back about a month ago. I don't know why. I don't know how to reach her aside of leaving messages in Skype in hope that she'll answer some day. I don't know what to do... So I'm just sitting here.... listening to this song... crying... The days are grim, the nights are dark My eyes, they slowly lose their spark And you, you left on me your mark Are you ever coming back? The world is dull, the skies are gray My laughter slowly fades away So many things still left to say Please, come back to me some day... Edit: It's been 5 years. They never replied. Why am I still not over this? I feel so dumb. The poem is kinda cringe too, hah. But I guess I'll leave it be.

I want to thank you for making music. Aside from some good friends, music was the only other thing that helped me during my depression during my divorce. And out of all the music I listened to, yours was the one I listened to the most because it helped me the most. This song and "Here On The Moon" were the most influential to me out of all your music, and were often my go to songs whenever I felt myself slipping deeper into depression. It's hard for me to express how much they helped me and the value I put into them whenever I hear their tune or lyrics, but thank you so much for making them and your others songs. It really helped me during the most difficult time in my life.

+Roulden Garrison is of course away serving as a missionary for another 10 months, but we will share with him your kind words. And so grateful that his music was able to help in even a small way. Some people think that some/most of his music is somber and sad. I like to think that he helps people express the sadness that is in their hearts that they need words for, but don't have, and they relate to the emotions. Then he always tries to mix in a feeling of hopefulness, that all is not lost.

It's the same feeling when you complete a video game with a really emotionally intense plot and characters you've grown to love, or finish a book series that you invested a lot of emotion in. It's a moment that you don't want to lose, so you just sit there for a while and just absorb every last drop of emotion.
