After the death of his daughter, his wife, and his youngest son, William tries to bring his wife back to life in the form of an animatronic version of her infused with her soul in order to console his madness, Ballora. Instead, Ballora incessantly wails about how William’s grief has resulted in his trauma by reciting the same ballad over and over again. Mocking him about how his incessant mourning is only making this worse, reminding him that his family will never be whole again and that isolating himself is what caused his grief in the first place. The reason William’s suffering hasn’t ended is because he won’t let anyone in. William will never be able to build a perfect replica of his wife, he will never find peace, he can’t be fixed. This song is about Ballora acknowledging that William’s disgust of her is because she can never replace the loss of his wife. It’s about how William will never find peace and how Ballora can never make him whole again. That’s what she means when she says “I can’t fix you.”
