4A032 Military Motor, Quad-Carb+Headers Start-Up/Run

Sorry for the poor quality video…shooting on my phone for now. This is my 4A032 military motor with open headers, a quad-carb setup, and BMW starter. This little thing runs great, I’ve just got to figure out an application and a transmission. Open to suggestions! Thanks for watching, let me know if there’s a need for a follow up.

one of these motors came up for sale for 100. did some research and like you said only 6hp for a 4cyl ohv motor made no sense to me? but still cool as hell. waited too long and missed it. cool mods by you. thanks for video, good luck with your go-cart or whatever you will put it in.

It would be cool if you could build a drivetrain just like in a car. With transmission and differential.

@jasonbaldwin5511 I’m researching the feasibility of using a go kart style torque converter to spin a 2 or 3 speed automatic transmission, like a TH200 or TH350, which would drive a differential. It would work, but I’m really worried about parasitic loss as I don’t have a ton of hp to work with. Also, those components get expensive fast. I’ll figure out something cool tho. Thanks for the input!

Nice project, there is nothing on the Internet about these engines on go karts. Would it be a good idea to put a bigger carb for all the 4 cylinders ? Good luck !

Thanks! I’m hoping that having an electric fuel pump will make these carbs run slightly richer than they normally would and negate a lean condition. And…I’m lazy and it’s running really well right now lol

I was wrong; 32ci is equal to 525cc which is 130cc per cylinder. I may need bigger carbs. These are 20mm units that claim to be good up to 125cc. For now I’ll just keep the RPM down so it doesn’t lean out on top and smoke the rings. Or just rev to the moon so I have an excuse to take it to the machine shop for a one-off big bore kit.

20mm carbs are fine for 130cc unless you’re planning to twist your engine over 5 to 7 k.

Addendum to above: a 26mm round-slide VM Mikuni (a real one) - with a suitable manifold, should feed this engine just fine.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful little engine. I am thinking microlight aircraft 😊

You’re welcome, and thanks for commenting! The microlight and ultralight aircraft communities have shied away from these motors because of the splash oiling of the rods; in a sustained bank turn the outboard cylinder rods would be oil starved…theoretically. I suspect this is only an issue on the early models (-1 through -3) but cannot confirm.

Do not use this engine on any aircraft. It’s oiling system is splash for the bottom end

Thanks man! The carbs are literally $15 units off Amazon, universal for any 75cc to 125cc motor, and I’m using whatever jets came in them. I’m at sea level so usually out of the box jetting works fine. Everything else I made from scratch with materials you can get at the hardware store. I’m getting back on this project soon, I’ll do something more in depth about the setup.
