My batteries were shipped and unfortunately 2 of them were damaged in shipping. He was already coming my way and Dan literally drove 8 hours in his personal vehicle (2 hours out of his way each way) and hand delivered replacement batteries to me! I was blown away by this level of customer service. Absolutely, hands down the best customer service in my entire life!!! Cannot say enough good things about this company. The only reason is that I use a bus bar, and the switch gets in the way a bit. I would also like the terminal screws to be a half inch longer for my thicker bus bar. I don’t think that would be a problem for the way most people do it.

Hah, Dan @ Trophy sent you the pictures of my setup that you used in your video. Cool. As a FYI, those are five of the 304Ah Trophy batteries, which I built an insulated box around, as these are used in an unheated shed at 9300 feet altitude in the mountains of Colorado. So yes, it does get cold here. As for communication with Victron gear. So far Dan and I have not been able to get the 304Ah to talk to my Victron Cerbo GX unfortunately. As you said, indeed, Dan is just great to work with!

I’m from Portugal and most of the times my struggle is to find a vendor who ships to europe/Portugal. My goal is to design a system for my future house, that would use most of the time energy from photovoltaic panels / batteries to support all the loads and only get from grid the delta energy. So I would apreciate a video taking this in consideration.

One thing I do wish battery makers would do more are 12V batteries with the same features as these rack mounts: On off button, Pre-charge Resistors, built in SOC meters. I think EG4 has 1 that is 12V like this, but no one else. It would make creating small electricity back up systems SO much easier.

The issue is the lower voltages require much higher current; which means larger conductor sizes to handle the amperage load. Stuff gets pricey when you start adding components for 12V high amperage; your total build for amount of watt hours prices you out the market.

The 10 year non-prorated warranty is a very good selling point. Also considering some of the better batteries are 48v 100ah at about $2400 compared to Trophy 48v 304ah at $4600. I bought a Trophy battery specifically for the convenience of internal heaters. Note that the heaters are not manually operated. The heaters work automatically and only when charging power is available. The heaters do not operate on stored energy so they will not drain the battery. My battery is in an unheated shed and it has done pretty well as long as the sun cooperates. I actually used the crate it was shipped in as an insulated rack. The % state of charge does not seem accurate. I was at 39% and I plugged in my 500 watt block heater for my truck for an hour and a half and found the battery went into safe mode due to under voltage. By my math it should have had something left. It was -20F so I guess that had something to do with it. Also I haven't found a way to get it to communicate with my Growatt inverter, but it works OK as a dumb battery. It works fine and it has been idiot proof so far.

I've got several lfp batteries from different companies and also have experience with building with bare cells. I've started with cells and switched to pre-built rack/powerwalls but I'm starting to gravitate back towards the bare cells with a JBD 16S BMS that can work with (for example) Growatt inverters. It's so much cheaper at

When the battery is oriented vertically, I would expect large tension/compression loads on the welded bus bars. Either slightly long or slightly short. The weight/ moment arm of those heavy cells on the bus bar will eventually cause fatigue. Or with small expansion/ contraction of the cells in normal use.

Yeah this was my concern a few years ago and then we talked to the manufacturers and said it's totally fine. If it breaks within 10 years then you get a brand new one. If you saw what I do to my batteries, I think it's safe to say that it can handle it haha

I have 3 of the 100ah batteries. They are mounted in my unheated shed in northern lower Michigan.I have had these since June and my only issue is some sort of remote state of charge as I have an Outback system an have struggled with consistent automation of my generator (worked perfectly with my AGMs). I would love a video talking about options for remote state of charge as no one seems to want to give me suggestions. Through many phone calls it seems to be an issue not quite dealt with yet! These batteries are incredible!!!!

I have an Outback system my system will not communicate with these either. It would be AWSOME to have a stand alone state of charge display that connects with RJ45 jacks just for peace of mind. By the way made it thru a northern Michigan winter and the internal heaters worked perfectly! 😎🥶

I prefer the DeWalt storage rack over a server rack. I find that the steel used on the bolt rails is too thin and you need to use a rack with rear rails as well. One needs to create a shelf between the front and rear supports and slide the packs onto the shelves. Get too high and you need to bolt the server rack to the floor and wall. You also need a safe lifting device to get packs into place.

Like the disconnect switch, the BMS may control current flow on and off, but it may not have a current interruption rating during a direct short, so I'd be hesitant to call the BMS an overcurrent protection device.

Will, I use 4" long sections of electrical heat shrink tubing to protect disconnected battery cables. I tape up one end of the tube with electrical tape, leave one end open to slide in the lug. I use tubing that is a snug fit so it cannot just slide off. I figure if it is safe enough to use on electrical connections, it should be safe to use as insulation when disconnecting batteries.

Around the 13min mark you state these are EV grade UL Listed but earlier I thought you said they were not UL listed which may prohibit grid interaction. Are you referring to the cells that are UL listed but the server rack units are not UL listed? Thanks (Awesome videos, keep up the great work)
