    Actually, "more xfruit than xfruit" is a common Japanese saying and other companies use it already. It just means an intense, concentrated taste that captures the essence of the fruit. I was surprised that Chris missed that bc he is generally good with Japanese cultural /linguistic references.

    2:55 The Asahi Headquarters building really was built to emulate a mug of beer, but Ryotoro skipped mentioning the more (in)famous part of that complex which is partially visible to just to the right - the "Flamme d'Or" - known colloquially as "The Golden Turd". The architect intended the structure to be a golden flame representing the spirit of the Asahi Brewery workers. If you take a Sumida River boat tour, it will take you right by both buildings as well as give a great view of the Tokyo Skytree.

    Chris, you've cost me $8000! (But happily so) For many years I've been watching your awesome content and my daughter has been watching along with me. She particularly loves this Asakusa video. When my daughter turned 5 she asked me if we could go to Japan for her 6th birthday, not thinking she was serious I casually said 'sure, why not'. Honestly I thought she'd forget about it all - but did she? Heck no! Anyway, her birthday is in January 2023 and we are booked to go to Japan for nearly a month. We're even staying a few nights in the same Ryokan as in this video and we have managed to find the same dessert place - my daughter, Charlotte, is desperate to eat the shaved ice and the blue Hawaiian drink you guys have. So, you've cost me $8K in flights but it's with a smile on my face I'm saying that. Thanks for all your wonderful KZread and Podcast content, can't wait to be back in Japan in just a few short months from now. Cheers, Rowan

    Theres something about these videos thats comforting, time goes by super fast when watching the videos and it really feels like something more than a travel video. These videos not only make me want to go to Japan they make me want to go to hiden treasures across the country and do something more authentic than just the regular tourist stuff. Highest quality stuff on KZread and probably the best Japanese travel media outlet

  • @dowfreak7
    @dowfreak72 жыл бұрын

    Gotta say, this channel always delivers on the "vibe" of the places visited. It doesn't just feel like you watch a sweeping camera shot of an obvious tourist spot, while someone monotonously lists why it's so great. It feels alive and real, creates a real longing for just visiting and both Chris and Ryotaro feel so down-to-earth, too. There's neither too much, nor too little focus on the humor or the places; it's just a well-balanced, enjoyable video.

I just wanted to reach out and thank you for including the message about the need to support local businesses in Japan. It is true everywhere. If we do not keep these amazing places going, the pandemic will do damage much longer than it has to. Your balance between knowledge and entertainment is appreciated. Well done. Thank you. I have family that I visit in Tokyo as often as I can. I miss them and am anticipating seeing them again soon. Should I ever see you there, I will give you an actual thumbs up. I went in February, -45c in Winnipeg, +15c in Tokyo, we went at night, light rain, maybe twelve people total, but bars, food, and all the essentials were open. Amazing photos and fun to explore when everything is lit up by LED and wet. Right during setsubun, got to watch the locals walk around booming drums and get soybeans thrown at them, and tons of hand painted lanterns and stuff. My favorite bar in the city is in that quarter too.

    When I visited Tokyo in 2019, I was lucky enough to be there during the Sanja Matsuri at Sensoji Temple. It was wonderful to experience such a huge festival and get an authentic cultural experience! There was also a lovely cat cafe close by, an independent one rather than one of the main chains that also acted as a shelter. I'd love to visit again in the future.
