Just found your site.. and glad to hear that someone understands that prepping doesnt mean leaving.. Why leave your home with a bug out bag,, when there is no place to go better than where to live .. you defend to the end.. period

Question: Why are you using the blade of the knife to strike the rod?? Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but wouldn't it make more sense to use the back of the knife so as not to dull the blade?

So I made the mistake of bring a knife with a rounded back so I used the serrations on the blade.

Fun video but do not EVER use the edge of a knife to scrape a ferro rod. Use the knife's spine or sharpening choil, keys, sharp rocks, literally ANYTHING that will scrape the ferro rod that isn't your knife's edge. My dual sport will be my bug out vehicle so I can get super far off the beaten track

I'm curious about what you think of a crossbow or ten pump bb/pellet gun for hunting small game. Also the crossbow as an alternative to a firearm since guns are loud and could give away your position to dangerous people.

Years ago, someone pointed out that training and practicing, vs actually surviving THE BIG ONE, are two different things. They were absolutely correct, but how can we suddenly 'get it'? Well, step by step over time, we learn new hacks, tricks, and sobering realities. The very first thing that went through my mind was your lights. Your lights were a neon sign saying HUMAN ACTIVITY HERE, to anyone within two or three miles!! The same thing for your fire, however skillfully made. Unless it is carefully screened, or absolutely needed to prevent immediate death from extreme cold, forget the fire. Remember; IF you are in a real SHTF bug-out scenario due to wide scale collapse, there will be countless others ALSO bugging out to the wilds. This is a guarantee of every sort of people suddenly 'out there', that are probably poorly prepared, scared, desperate, etc. Lights and fire are age old signs of life and safety, and will draw other people like moths to a candle. It took me YEARS to appreciate some of the basic maxims of bug out survival. One of the first is DO NOT ADVERTIZE your presence/maintain as low a profile as possible. After all. If you have all that light and fire, what ELSE do you have, HMMN?? A small back pack tent is all you need in most cases, at least for the first few days, and (with a little practice) can be set up WITHOUT any lights at all. A good earth-tone bed-roll and tarp can give you shelter, and is hard to spot even a short distance away, especially if set up in bushes or trees. A general rule is "Small is beautiful", and minimalist thinking allows for more of what you really need, vs the kind of things you would do on a camping trip. By all means, have your fire-making tools and know how, but know WHEN you really need that fire, and make every effort to only build it in such a way as to make it as hard to spot from outside your area as possible. All that being said, enjoy your learning excursions into the woods, and pray it never becomes real enough to actually need your guns.....
