470Hp OPEL CALIBRA 4x4 Turbo || C20LET Sound & ONBOARD

Reinhold Nauschnegg from Austria races one of the very few units of the Opel Calibra that can still be found on Hillclimb Racing. Powered by a 450Hp/550Nm C20LET engine, it is also quite unique due to the fact it was converted into a 4 Wheel Drive race car ( it was initially FWD). Using a 6 speed H pattern gearbox and weighing around 1150Kg it is a rather unique machine that shows how diverse the Hillclimb racing field can be. It has competed on the Austrian Hillclimb Championship for almost a decade and lately has been used more sporadically, but this Season we´ve seen it return in a more continuous Fashion startin at Kitzeck with a great performance and showing it still packs a considerable amount of performance as you can observe both from the outside and onboard it.

I had a c20let in my Peugeot 405 mi16 4x4 from a citroen xantia was quite a struggle to get it in there but a brutal engine for sure

My step dad had a white one with a yellow sticker. Couldn't sit in traffic for 5 minutes without it overheating. Fast, though.

I have one Calibra. Mine is a red 1995, C20XE, unmolested, with low mileage. It was my dream car during my teenage years, and now I have it. Still beautiful, timeless.
The calibra has such a incredible racing history that isn't nearly appreciated enough In south africa we had an absolute monster of a calibra in the wes bank modified seires I hope to see more of this car

Yeah, the Briggs Calibra would deserve an entire video on its own...
Phenomenal car.. used to have one in the mid 90s Vauxhall Calibra, 2.0l 16v Red-Top Engine (Pre-Ecotec) , Red Paint with full black heated leather recaro interior sports exhaust and after market Alloys, beautiful car for its time! (Especially when you're only 21 y/o, and only your second car!) Even non turbo it was VERY quick for back then! 🏴🇬🇧

A mate of mine had a red top C20LET in a white Astra GSi back in 98, torque steer was a real deal back then!!

@@simonmoore4277 hahaha yeah, a mate of mine had a GTE or GSI Astra back then.. I can't remember the code for the Engine in mine, but I know it was the one in the turbo just without the turbo bolted on far as I know, it was a late 94, so last of the pre eco tech engines after that they went down at least 20bhp, so was glad I got last of the quick ones .. (I think few people added turbos to them and they handled the power no problem). Would have loved a 4x4 but they were VERY RARE and MEGA BUCKS back then, I paid an arm and a leg for my 2.0 16v fully loaded.

I had an Astra GSi 8v from this era. Great car, good sporty comfort, practical interior with modern on board computer with a lap timer (!). Motor code was c20ne (115hp). The "real" GSi 16v was c20xe (150hp?). I miss this car with his famous backs wheels archs rust spot

@@Baba-yz3kp yeah think my mates was an 8v Astra. My Calibra was the 16v 150bhp. But in reality it was more than that was also faster than the book figures. Got a bit quicker still once I added a twin tailpipe performance sports exhaust and 17x7 Evo R alloys.
Opel C20 series are definitively the second best 4 cylinders ever made after Honda K20.

Such a gem that beautiful Opel Calibra . A friend of my uncle used to have one of those , stupidly fast car , great handling. This one though was mental, watching that pro driving it on that track was awesome !

Calibra was and is a nice car and very fast. With 150hp it ran 224km and with 204 it went 245kmh.incredible aerodynamics.. Original and as a race car. And they are so rate in these days. Max.3 times a year i see a calibra. Hopefully there were people out there who save and restore those who still exist...

The sold these in australia back in the day, badged as a holden calibra.
The Calibra has got a really low co-efficient of drag from stock, so it's a great choice as the basis for a hill-climber.

Best engine Opel ever produced! This however sounds kinda ricey compared to what i used to hear when Calibra Turbo's were more common in Sweden in the mid 00's :p
