    Yeah, just imagine hoe many variations I have been through, and I have changed a bunch when I actually started running the chases and plumbing. But, we've finished that up now, so on to pouring foam and pushing the ball towards the goal.

    There is a limit to computer programs like this. Instead, grab a comfortable side chair, park it in front of your kitchen stove. There's your console. Sit and move the chair forward and back till the front of the stove seems comfortable for sitting and looking at the knobs as your instruments. Grab a steering wheel or whatever serving tray is the same size and hold it in place to see if that height or distance works for comfort. If the right chair distance ends up too close for walking through, simply get a flip up seat. Makes it easy to stand and steer when you feel like. Armrests also make long trips a lot less tiring.

    It’s as if you have access to a camera in my house. I have done all those things, and I have journeyed to look at every other boat I can find and taken measurements when I see them. Everything with a boat is a compromise from length, to fuel capacity, to seat cushions. Comfort increases cost and causes inconvenience but it also makes the experience more enjoyable. So, all that being said, I have sat in chairs pushed against the wall, and held plates as steering wheels to get an idea, and all that led me to the current design, which will probably be tweaked 100 times before its installed. All I know for certain is where I need my chases to come up. That’s the next step. Appreciate it as always.

    Running your drains below the waterline? Maybe I'm misunderstanding your design, but I think if your boat gets swamped won't your bilge pump will be useless? And even with scuppers in those transom drains, you're going to be running around with water in those drain pipes until you pull the boat out of the water. And combining the front drains with the livewell drain....If the drain or scupper in the transom gets clogged with debris (which mine does frequently) water will back up into your front compartment. A lot of flats boats just have the forward compartments drain onto the deck, then drain the deck straight back to the bilge. You're plans are great, just playing devil's advocate.

  • @Bigeaux20

    @Bigeaux20

    6 ай бұрын

    The only drains below the waterline are for the livewell/fishboxes, or the main deck drains, which will be above the waterline. The bilge will have a traditional hose and discharge out the side of the boat for visual reference. By design, the drains that are below the waterline are the same as every other production flats to offshore boat made. But, I think where you are confused is that the bilge isn't connected to those drain lines that exit out the transom. I am still lingering on having the very forward actor locker drain out the side of the hull with a clamshell like a lot of boats do it, but the cockpit will drain out through the floor and one of the 1.5" through hulls. The only water that gets to the bilge should be from maybe a leaking raw water pump or something. The drains below the waterline will "hold water" while the boat is at rest, but will easily drain in motion. Outside of the cockpit drains, all the fishbone/livewell drains will have standpipes, or plugs depending on what function it's performing at the time, but water will not enter through those drains even if open while the boat is either at rest or in motion. There is still enough lift to prevent that open movement.

    @Bigeaux20 I guess it was looking to me like your deck might be at or below the waterline, which would make for some wet feet? With three livewells, 4 batteries, and a couple people won't you be drafting around 11 inches mark. Is the deck above that?

  • @Bigeaux20

    @Bigeaux20

    Even at that load there should be more than enough to keep dry feet. But I like the way you are thinking. Appreciate the input.

    @@Bigeaux20 ah that makes more sense. I forgot your floors are in yet. Based on my experience so far, spend the coin on smooth 5-6” tubing. I used a large landscape water hose and while it is big enough, the ridges in the plastic are giving my fish tape a hard time. Keep in mind your bends as well so it’s a smooth transition. It will all work, but if I ever build another I’d change a few things.

    Get some ice maker tubing from Lowes or HomeDepot. It makes pulling and fishing wires so much easier. We used this a lot in redoing the sport fisher I fish on.
