Being Aussie, we never used a dryer. We only dry clothes on the line outside. If it's raining we just dry inside on a clothes "horse" a line dryer. I only ever use home brand laundry and half the amount. Drying the clothes outside is better for the environment. I don't use paper towels. I went to the council pool and showed my student card and got in for $2. I always shop the reduced section , I don't use fabric softener, (you can use vinegar instead). I dont have a dishwasher.

I love this video!!! My mom and I are low income (I'm on disability, and my mom is a senior and about to retire) and we live together. We are learning how to save money. We are buying food on clearance, buying off brands, drying our clothes on a drying rack, hand washing our clothes (The Scrubba), not eating out, using solar/hand crank generators, flashlights, lanterns, fans. We have solar panels and solar battery chargers. We use USB & rechargeable batteries. We use a solar cooker and kettle to cook & boil water. I don't wear makeup or use many beauty products. I am saving for an electric bike & electric scooter since I don't own a car. For entertainment we read, play board games, video games, table top games, talk, go swimming at the local pool, watch a movie or tv show Roku, watch KZread videos, or free games on our phones. Life is good, but a frugal life is better.

No idea when we became this throw away culture. My tv is about 12 years old, a plasma I bought on clearance from Sears! Still looks and works great. You do not need to upgrade anything! Cars, phones, tv's, clothes....don't give in to advertising!

I totally agree with you. Sadly it is all about consumerism I don't agree with expending money in order to upgrade just because a new cell is out or a new TV, etc ... Why people do that? I still have the same TV from 15 years ago. Still works great! I don't have any subscriptions so I just stream Pluto tv or Tubi and I can enjoy watching movies without any problems.

My best friend and I, both retired and weary beyond words at prices being raised by every service, grocery, etc., decided this week to set April aside as a spending moratorium. Neither of us will spend money on anything not necessary, like bills, groceries, etc. We are both very excited to see what is leftover at the end of the month. We met for lunch yesterday as we won't be doing that after Sunday. And we will record every cent that goes out. It's a game, now! Wish us luck...we are both seasoned shoppers...

That's great they did that for you. In my area (northern Illinois) my company won't budge an inch. They have the most dependable wifi around and they know it, especially that folks work from home and need it. They'll give an extra channel for 3 months like they're doing someone a favor, but refuse to bring down their prices. Our alternative choices are slim to none.

@@yellowstonekv959 Would you happen to be with ATT? (We're in Milwaukee, Wis metro area.) They have terrible customer service, but their Internet is good. I haven't called to see about getting slower Internet for cheaper as the Princess recommends, because I don't want to go through the pain of waiting on hold forever, being lied to, then trying to straighten it out the next month when you get your bill and everyone has amnesia. But, as you say, there isn't much of a choice in our market. You are getting "channels" with your Wi-Fi? ATT is always trying to upsell you with a "package deal". Of course, one service (Internet in our case) is always going to be cheaper than two (Internet + Cable), no matter how they package it.

I definitely picked up a couple good tips that I hadn't thought of thank you! I live about as Frugal as can be though. My total bills for the month run roughly $125 and I have no house payments or car payments, heat strictly with wood from my 20 acres, hunt and fish regularly , and even though I live 6 or 8 miles from the nearest blacktop road I still only put about 1,800 miles on one of my vehicles and a little over 2500 on the truck total for the whole year. I plan my trips very carefully and run multiple errands at one time so I'm not running willy-nilly. Both vehicles I purchased used with approximately 41 or 42,000 miles on them and one I've had for 13 years and just broke 78,000 , my truck which I've had 15 years just broke 100,000 both of which I paid cash for when I bought them ,and they'll likely last me for many more years . I also downsized from an almost 2,000 ft house to 695 square foot house two years ago which has made an amazing difference in my finances since I live on Social Security income. Electric vehicles or bicycles are really not an option for me living here at the High Mountain Homestead , but I am in the process of doing a solar system to run my house and will be running my new garage once it's completed. Even though last month's light bill was just slightly less than $34 for the house , which was actually a bit higher than normal since I was using a bunch of power tools to build a wood shed this last month. I'll be switching to solar, but will still remain on the grid sense solar will be primarily be for my garage as it will likely be my biggest energy hog due to all my shop tools, welders and air compressor. I do however have three classic cars ,two of which are absolute gas Hogs and full-blown hot rods so I guess I do have my vices!! LOL! But then 2 of those only get driven very rarely and my 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is under restoration at the moment. I generally only use them to go to local car shows , occasional trips to the racetrack and for the occasional car club Cruises, so what I save on daily and monthly expenses I splurge on driving my hot rods during the summer months. Which usually only amounts to,two or three thousand miles total for the year. What's the old saying? " man cannot live by bread alone " so yes I definitely do spoil myself on occasion when it comes to my hot rods and it doesn't really break the bank when I go out and blow a hundred bucks on fuel for the day! Even OLD kids have to play sometimes!! LOL

I hang all of my clothes as well. I am blessed that I have a lot of deck railing that I use as well as drying racks that I have had for decades. In inclement weather, I just bring my drying racks inside. It just requires a bit more preplanning, but it works wonders. I also am a frugal shopper. I preplan my weekly food needs, shop at grocery stores that sell off brands or seconds...save 1/4 of our income, an am 100% debt free, including not having a mortgage. I still do all of my bill/accounting the old fashioned way with paper and pencil...I am an old soul, I guess.

For the winter, we have rods around the house to hang clothes inside--like the shower curtain rod, rods for curtains used in place of closet doors, a rod hidden behind a door, and a rod across the back-door alcove. I just hang everything, including sheets, on hangers and hang them to dry on one of these rods. Underwear and socks typically get put on drying racks.

And just have internet for $63 a month. And I have a Roku TV which gives me hundreds of channels. I also have a analog TV converter box and antenna which gives me the main TV channels free. Most of the TV shows I watch are old reruns and I can watch them on the analog TV. But I do need the internet. Although, what did we do before the internet? My cell phone only costs $35 a month. I did the same about two years ago Kendra and I don't regret it for one second. I sold my old 2000 square foot house on a pretty busy thoroughfare I've lived in for over 35 years and moved into a beautiful modernized cabin on 20+ acres with nothing but forest land all around me and a nice brook with about 15 small waterfalls running right in front of the house. The nearest blacktop Road is about six or seven miles away and I'm the next to the last house before the power stops. After that it's about 6 miles to the next nearest neighbor and my closest neighbor here on this road is about a thousand feet away or better. I'm also surrounded by nothing but state , Federal and Timber Company land where no one will ever build. I'm absolutely living the dream here at the High Mountain Homestead amongst the deer, bear, Fisher Cats and about every other wild creature you can think of native to Vermont !!! I couldn't be happier!

I have stopped using paper products which is a big thing for me I love paper towels and only use them occasionally but I want to start watering down my shampoo and conditioner that's excellent idea I had no idea you could even do that and I do use less laundry soap than I used to cuz I have heard it works just as good with half the amount I admire you so much and thanks for your videos that's very helpful.

Fortunately, I do most of these things already. Thanks to the pandemic and being quarantined, I had the time to get my hair to adjust from being washed every day, to now once a week (or maybe twice if it is hot, icky weather). Because of this, shampoo/conditioner bottles that previously only lasted a month for me are lasting well over a year. I do use coupons combined with sales so personal care items like the shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, and laundry detergent are nearly free or sometimes I actually make money getting them. Almost everything I own was gotten free or used, which gives everything in my home a great story. When I tire of something, I sell it. For example, I got a great chair and ottoman set for $25. I loved it for several years, but recently wanted a recliner. I sold the chair/ottoman for $40 and bought a fabulous recliner from an estate sale for $10.

Thanks for the info! I will def check into the mini-split system as here in AL my AC sometimes cannot handle the heat/humidity for several hours during the hottest temps during the day. i do have a window unit and floor fan in my bedroom which works great at night. So my washing machine went wonky and will only do a spin cycle now. Instead of buying a new one, which is only me living here in my farmhouse, I wash my clothes, etc once a week in two 5 gal buckets in my tub. One for washing, then ring out and transer to the other to rinse, rinse, rinse, add white vinegar at end. Then spin in the washer and hang on the line outside to dry. I didn't mention but my whole house is on Well water so no water bill.....next step, get the well pump hooked up to solar. Love your channel.

Black out curtains, using them since I could remember. Small fridge check Home made Iced tea, not coffee, check. Clover lawn, not turf. Very low maintenance and it helps pollinators. Check. Clothes shop only for special occasions. Water, one of the best ways to save money. Diluting liquid soaps adding a minimal 1/4 of water to it. Shampoo, dish and laundry detergents. Laundry detergent lasts me around 6 months. Shampoo/conditioner twice a week. 6 months. I use a dish washer, at least every other day because I absolutely hate doing dishes. And if you do, like me, never use the pods. Those things are flipping expensive. Dry powder works just as well, and it won't "break the dishwasher". That's only if you put too much in or don't wait for the cycle to end. All my lights outside are solar, and yet have to master bringing it inside. I'm getting there.
