If you ever do a freestyle mixtape, add Em's 1997 freestyle in NYC Wetlands, his 1998 freestyle with Stretch and Bobito, and his 1999 out of the top freestyle with Paul Rosenberg throwing him words, for MTV. And for a volume 2 of rare songs, he has a song with Kid Rock and a song with Missy Elliot from that pre sign era.

I remember downloading these off LimeWire 20 years ago in high school, what an era!

The Demo of Rock Bottom is crazy man, you can hear how defeated he is at that point in his life.

I think a huge part of why Em doesn’t rap like this anymore is because he lost his iconic younger voice. Like his voice over time has changed. That, and his beat selections and technicalities have changed.

I got a set a turntables at 17 in 1999 and had that hellbound record. I forgot all about it. And that Scary Movie beat is insane. Gives me chills when Ems verse came on. Fuck I miss hip hop.

I still think Royce and em haven't made a better collab than scary movies Yes not alike and you gon learn come close but the old dusty sound of scary movies paired with their young and ambitious vocals is just perfection.

This is the Hip Hop and Eminem I grew up on and loved! I was 11 when my dad let me hear Eminem for the first time. it was his skill from day one... The late 90s were super lyrical, especially underground... But the thought of a white rapper who could not only rap, but has his own sugniture style that got respect from heavyweights in the game was a silly thought. You couldn't even bite someone's style of rap then, you were considered a joke. this dude hit the scene due to Dre and was skilled, funny, and like this insane, comic book character... like bugs bunny meets The Joker meets Lil Dickey meets Howard Stern meets Jessie from breaking bad lmao 😂 he was like 2pac in saying anything w zero fucks given at all. and knew exactly he could get more attention and more wiggle room cos of his race. but also throw in a skit that have on the floor! 🤣 he became a bigger troll once he shot to the top, but early broke hungry Slim Shady was just it's own unique vibe... I grew up on underground 90s hop hop, but Eminem was special to experience 💯

Very true. I go back and forth between contending his best albums---old or new. I really can't make up my mind. I guess it just depends on if I'm into super technical stuff, or just a mad vibe. Then again, his new albums, namely Kamikaze and MTBMB, still have some of that old style going back as far as MMLP 2 or Recovery style, but not the mix tape/SSLP era.
