    I bought the RK 72" grapple in March for my Kubota L4330. Thanks to Mike for the earlier videos demonstrating it. I debated for a long time; what size to buy, single lid vs double, and who to get it from (EA vs RK). I'm happy with the RK 72" and really like how it's designed - details such as the laser cut, welding and a design that balances strength vs weight. I'm clearing trails and building a drive on 20 acres of forested land in West MI. It's getting a work out and winning the battle with Autumn Olive roots and hauling a lot of logs. Thanks to Doug at the RK Power Equipment team and the Sean at the Hartland MI store for an excellent buying experience. Also thanks to Mike for an inspiring series of videos - I've learned a lot from you! Jon.

    Mike great comparison and perspective from the drivers seat. Good to info. Cutting firewood has been replaced with cutting grass. Thanks for sharing

    I have the 54” Granite Grapple on the RK24. With the 54” your review is spot on, it is more difficult to pick out a log when driving in to a pile. Often I come in over the drop and drop down on the log, this gives me good visibility and I similarly use the bottom hooks to pick out the log. Great review, the 54” and RK24 are a great match.

    A very useful and informative video (thanks) unfortunately ruined by 6 video ads. I am a retired biotech patent attorney in MA and based on your videos contacted RK about their small tractors. They sent me an automated “we’ll contact you” email but then never did. Apparently no interest in Ma based customers. Kubota showed no such reluctance. I have to tell you we walked into the bush here in Northern Ontario , the snow is almost all gone only in the low spots that don't get much sun . We had a bumper crop of snow this year something like 84" average now we have little creeks that are now rivers and now mud season . That grapple would be handy here to move all the branches out of the creeks have a nice weekend

    Great video Mike in explaining the different pros and cons of the different sizes of grapples . Showing us what you see from the seat was a great idea . Can't see the grapple would certainly be a pain . Have seen many videos with the Artillian grapple with the separate moving jaws . Too bad you don't have one of those to compare and give us your opinion . If I was in the market for a grapple I would be hard pressed in picking which one to purchase . Personally I like the Granit grapple but what do I know . Calling for rain tomorrow . Beautiful Saturday so I'm gonna go visit Mom at the Cemetery today and plant some flowers . She loved flowers . Even with single top lid, I like that style better since you can really get under stuff and just lift like a set of forks rather than having to clamp down on whatever the material is. I've put about 100 hours use on mine from Everything Attachments and cleared a good few acres and move tons of rocks and debris. It stays on my L3301 99% of the time.

    One thing with a little grapple on a bigger tractor is that the bigger tractor has more force and can bend the smaller grapples. To pick up logs, you can point your grapple down, put the fixed teeth between you and the log and then squeeze on the log. When we first built the grapple for my wife's tractor, ti did not have much gripping force and would not pick up a log unless the grapple was at least half way around the log. We re-engineered the hydraulics and it will now crush a refrigerator.

    Higher RPM gives you more power in the hydraulics. The pump is directly related to speed and power of operations. I have two grapples for my Deer and one is a monster. It can dig and work. It weighs almost double as my double grip version. Martin p.s. could have a camera and display - think backup in a truck unit - one to look over the top as it were - maybe on a mast over your head looking over. Might be of use.

  • @billonthehill9984
    @billonthehill99845 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Mike. Imo, the larger grappler looks like overkill on the RK37 tractor, to big & bulky. The smaller grappler appears correctly sized & looks better on the RK37. However, functionally you have some valid points preferring the larger grappler on this small tractor. I have been to several implement dealers in both VT & NH around my area & all of them are stocking the conventional grapplers with the JD quick release functions I will need. These units are the typical narrow jawed grapplers & all the dealers claim they will do the same thing these monster units can do... My 16 yr. old JD-990 is not plumbed for a grappler, therefor hose ines have to be custom made, a Fesse valve & brkt welded in place & a hydro/electric switch installed on the bucket control arm lever. Of the (4) current bucket arm hoses, (2) get switched over to the Fesse valve, this is what allows for the opening & closing of the jaws... Cost wise for my particular setup runs in the $2300.00 range... In the meantime, I will do the " poor man's " approach to this & simply purchase a good set of forks with a full rack. Through my JD dealer a set of HSA's run about $960.00 with little to no rack. A set of JD 48" forks with a full rack runs about $1250.00. I have looked at the Chinese stuff out there, not impressed at any price... Thanks Bill on the Hill, Vermont... :~)

    Hi Bill on the Hill. Does your JD have a rear remote? I ran a grapple with a rear remote, the remote lever was very close to the loader control and it was easy to move my hand from one to the other. And when the grapple wasn't being used I had the remote available for other uses. Just another option for you to consider.

    I’m sure you have thought of this but I would feel terrible if I didn’t relay a personal experience. My Mother had a beautiful black Lab. The Lab had gotten older and had slowed down considerably. The Lab was under the farm truck and didn’t get out fast enough. It didn’t kill her but it was a traumatic experience for us all. She survived but she was stove up for awhile. Just a reminder our pets slow with age as we do. You have beautiful dogs and it’s obvious they love to be where y’all are. grapple looks like a good tool, would be handy picking debris off the property now that the flood is receding, Grand Lake New Brunswick

    Any more thoughts on a future sawmill, it’s been awhile since you’ve talked about it, last I remember you said you might look more into it in the spring?

    Had one thought while watching you haul pole wood from the trails on the loader, ever considered a trailer like a hay rack with stations ( up Rights) to load wood and then pull a loaded trailer to where you process the fire-wood? Is lots of stress on expensive front axels. Northern sells nice looking small scale hay rack running gear easily made into a log bunk. Will make getting more to processing area faster plus they unbolt for smaller storage.

    I think the ones with the split top grapple would work better, I've watched many videos trying to see which ones are better, and it seems that the those grab piles of brush better because there are three points of contact.
