    Thanks for watching. Hope all goes well for you. If you have a press that helps. Then the only thing you need is something that is the same size as the bushing. Be sure and remove that little ridge inside the overdrive/underdrive drum before putting that one back in.

    It’s impressive how many types of transmissions some guys know how to put together just off the top of their head. I’ve got a side business doing manual transmissions for folks. There are a handful I’ve done enough of that I no longer need to reference the manuals, but that’s maybe three or four of them. Definitely not the dozens I’ve seen on this channel.

    I'm at 185k in a 2005 dakota, pulling a trailer w/mower all the time almost. It slips into 2nd sometimes, and the shift out of 3rd can be noticed occasionally as well. And somedays it's just fine. I've already looked into a refurbished one with a 5-year warranty. 1,900 doesn't seem that bad. Installation will be about 400 more with fluids and sensors

    You can try it. Going to need to be pretty thick lube and lots of it, probably. I line the cutout of the piston up with the tab of the support and hold the Belleville with my finger. Tapping the support down with a screwdriver till it is almost down and it usually stays lined up.

    Not intending to criticize, but more of a question. I see you using a power wrench on the valve body. I've been rebuilding transmissions since about 1968. I used to use an impact on them as well. I got bit really hard on a THM400 about 1970. Factory man was on the premises, and his first question was "did you use a torque wrench on the valve body?" I had not. He told me to drop the pan and retorque the valve body bolts and it would fix the problem. I did, and it did. Ever since that, I religiously use a torque wrench and follow factory specs for torque.

  • @CurmudgeonTransmission

    @CurmudgeonTransmission

    3 жыл бұрын

    I don't know for 100%, but there are 8 different cases for that unit. All have to do with the placement of the starter and the distance between the top bolts. There are 2 992's an AA and an AB. I am assuming the AB is probably for the addition of the case connector being added for the VLP system, but I don't know that for a fact.

At first it drove kinda fine but then wouldn't shift into anything higher than either 1st or 2nd, and if its in Netrual or Reverse it will still move forward with throttle. Have you ever heard of that? Im no expert on transmissions but I have torn a 42RLE apart before so id like to do it myself if possible.

    Double check your connectors at the transmission and make sure they are plugged all the way in. Sometimes debris can get in the connector and keep it from going all the way in. make sure the connector clicks when you plug it all the way in and will not pull off when you tug on it. If it does you will need to replace the connector end. Good thing about Dodge is they sell most of their connector ends. If that is ok look and make sure you did not pinch a wire between the bellhousing and block. If that looks ok pull the valve body and make sure all the wires there are ok and double check your check ball locations. They are different between the VLP system and non VLP.

    @@ItsJust2SXTs Like I said I have looked at them having soaked them and installing them, and then looked at the ones I have not soaked and having installed them. Have not noticed a difference between the two. That has been done multiple times by me so it is not just a one off deal. But like I said if you want to soak them, soak them. I don't and have not for about 25 years now and not had any issues from it. Putting a little in the converter if you want is ok also. The installers here usually don't. The only one I can think of that it would be a great idea to do is the Ford 5R110W. That thing has a tendency to wipe the pump out on the lift, it sucks fluid so fast you can not fill it fast enough. I would put about 9 qts. in it and start it up and then shut it off immediately and put 9 more in before starting it again.
