4200 Gallon Aquarium Glass: GlassCages

The video today will talk about my glass vendor selection process, my experiences during that journey, along with my customer experience with GlassCages. I was happy with the product I received and had a great customer experience with GlassCages. There was one issue with my order which I talk about on the video but GlassCages provided excellent customer service and made it right.

    Wow, what an experience. I hate to see customer service like the guys gave you at the show. GlassCages are an A1 class outfit. Bravo on your progress. I've watched your content for years now, very inspiring. You are a talented instructor. Thank you for sharing. A shirt would be cool.

    Just browsing glass cages website and at $58/sf for 3/4" it is like $20-25k for one panel at 144" x 36", depending on glass quality. At the total you probably paid Joe did the right thing! I want to order from them one day! Awesome build btw!

    Good stuff Alex ! I have a customer/friend in the window industry that coordinated with a vendor to get me 2 sheets, 24" x 96" x 13mm beveled and 2 sheets, 24" x 36" x 13mm beveled, float glass at a reasonable price. That was 7 1/2 years ago. and Ive repurposed the same glass in 5 more tanks since.

    I could only imagine how much went into getting this glass. I had like 20 emails to the vendor for my 225 gallon tank. There were so many other detailed questions they wanted me to answer and that made me have more questions. They got it done and I was very happy. You have a kinda delayed excitement cuz once you get the glass you still have to build the thing.

    Lots of pre-planning. I already had an idea of what I wanted and with some phone calls the details were worked out and verified via email.

    Your experience kinda sums up the lack of pro service most customers get in any field in North America. Much better service in Asia on any given day… just my 2 pennies.

    You have to keep in that in the aquarium business you get a F-ton of tire kickers and window shoppers. Profit margin isn't astronomical either. Cutting the glass is probably the least amount of labor and glass markup wouldn't be that high either. Basically most venders wouldn't be making that much off of you so they treated you as such.

    most tradeshow reps aren't getting commission on sales, so they don't care who they offend or how much business they lose, it's absurd. i've had similar experiences at shows.

    Thanks for the comment Greg. For all the fun to be had at shows its surprising that some of these reps act this way at shows. All I can say is those other aquarium vendor reps made my decision easy to go with GlassCages.

    @@algawura2 many years ago when booth sales were comissioned you would have multiple reps jump on you to start a conversation and make a sale, now, corporate owners would rather keep the profit for themselves, but they fail to realize the people they are paying to be there in the booth they paid to set up are just on their phones or hiding from conversations.no skin in the game. Sad times

    May i asked, how do you know how thick the glass should be for each or your tanks? Thanks.

  • @algawura2

    @algawura2

    Жыл бұрын

    There are various calculators out there for glass thickness based on aquarium size and the safety factor you are looking for. Also if you look at commercially available aquariums that will also provide some guidance. Always best to do research on what thickness will work best for a particular build.

    Sounds like owner of that company who's employees ignored you would very much appreciate finding out that they're wasting their money sending those employees to the trade show.

  • @algawura2

    @algawura2

    I'm sure those owners would like to know but at the same time I don't feel I should have to provide that feedback. If an owner is on top of their business then they should be attentive to how there business is functioning at a show otherwise they should not even go to the show in the first place.
