Finally GOT IT! man that was an adventure. I spp'd it upside down and I could feel the feedback alot easier. Also the lock after I got a huge false set would act frozen. So I sprayed it with some special sauce and 4.5 minutes later I picked it for the first time. Aweasome feeling finally cracking it. Thanks for all the great videos I've learned a ton. PS I've been waiting patiently for a new BB video.....

so ive been watching your videos for months now and you inspired me to get into picking, i already had one of these locks laying around and so i made my own picks and tension tools, i used feeler gauge to make my picks and the blade of a butter knife to make my tension wrench, 6 pins and 5 security pins was a daunting challenge for me to pick as my first lock, but after only 8 or 9 tries, pulling the lock apart to inspect the pins to make sure i wasnt chewing them up too much, and peeking at the key a few times, i finally got it, i was blown away and it felt great to manage to open the lock without a key picking each pin individually, so i had to lock it back up and try again to make sure i didnt fluke it, and within 2 minutes it was open again :D

Bill, It's fun to watch this early video of yours after having seen so many of your more recent ones from 2017 and 2018. Your skills have evolved a long way, sir, but I still learned something from this one.

Man am I glad I came across this one Been watching your great videos and taught myself by watching Have a little Abus lock I’ve been playing around with and learning how to handle my first spool pins Hasn’t normally given me trouble But it just got real stubborn the other day Couldn’t figure out what wasn’t set or overset Just jumped out of bed and ran downstairs And tried your jiggling trick Had same result. Next pin was the binder and it opened right up once I got er home Have one of these 72/40 6 pins being dropped off tomorrow Very cool that I’ll be able to swap out cores and pins for a practice lock I can just carry one lock instead off a ball locks to in-laws for the holidays

When I bought mine, it was advertised for lockout/tagout safety kind of stuff. Kids lockers is a good idea. Nice security to them. Still haven't got mine picked though

Older video, but for the "mean't for high school lockers" bit, the locker is more intended as a safety lockout lock, the different colors represent which personnel or department they would belong to.

Newbie here... I've been picking at my 72/40 for a week. Still can't get it opened. I do get quite a few clicks and get a good false set but no joy.

Another great video Bill. As others have mentioned, this is actually a lock designed for LOTO, thus the security features!

Great picking again Bill, did you really say "if you don't like the Abus core, you can change it"? Who wouldn't like the Abus core! I have ordered 2 of these locks, on your recommendation, so I have a lot of frustration in the post! Keep up the good work mate.

These locks are so called "Love locks". They are mostly sold to teenagers. The locksmith engraves 2 names and a heart on the lock body and the teenagers go and put this lock at a bridge bar and throw the keys in to the river. To make the engraving easier the lockbody is made from soft metall alluminum. I wonder Bill did not put one of this on a bridge. Or he maybe did. Who knows.

The Abus site says security rating of 6. Is this better anti-picking protection? Does this aluminum padlock have enough physical protection from cutting etc?

Bill, have you tried Rytan hooks lately ? I have several different brands & they are super skinny, not expensive and they have the most sensitive/best feedback of anything I ever used including my Petersons. Only problem is heavy handed pickers would destroy em in minutes they aren't no Gov steel. if you don't lever them against the warding when you pick like some folks they are awesome for feedback & small keyways.

Hi everyone yesterday I baught this lock but I think in the new Version. On the Bottom it says XH. 1. is there a Translation Chart that Translates this Code to a production Date? 2. When I took it apart I discovered a mayor Weakness the same that Bill mentioned in one of his Masterlock videos. On the side of the Body is drainhole that is perfectly aligned with the screwhead. So if you drill that hole wich shouldn't be a problem on an aluminium Lock the Core would slide out and baam in. What do you think, I know that is is not intended to be a high security Lock but still for an Abus rating of 6 a bit. disappointing.

Ithink it is more directed towards pick resistance rather than brute force distructive entry, hence the aluminum body.

Asron Asyoucanget - I really like it. Never heard of ABUS before starting there. But I enjoy the company, solid environment, great people. I've worked five jobs since 2010. And ABUS is a place I can see myself settling for years to come. It's cool learning the mechanisms and building locks. For this one in particular it is advertised as compatible with U.S. cylinders. Pretty cool to see it here. The hole where the shackle comes out is a basic Phillips screw. take that out. you can basically disassemble the whole lock in a couple shakes of a hand and a slam on a table.

I am actually quite surprised it took him so long. I just started picking and I have two 72/40s which (after the first two openings) I can now pick in 30-40s. I can only imagine that he had some bad luck with this lock since he must have had more experience after 41 videos than I have. Or maybe I just watched enough Bosnianbill and LPL and learned by watching?
