-40C! ~ 7.3L IDI Turbo Cold Start!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

-30C (-40C With Windchill) cold start of my 94 7.3L IDI factory Turbo
I don’t regularly do this to the old beast but since this is the first time since I’ve owned the vehicle it hasn’t had access to power in these temperatures I figured I’d give it a go…

    I have a 94 250 idi turbo and I have to say congratulations on keeping at least your dash and gauges clean and pristine. It blows me away to see how many elderly ford IDIs are filthy dirty and scummed out keep mine as you keep yours. I bet the rest of your truck looks the same.

    94' 7.3 IDI-T..... anything below 40° Fahrenheit and I keep her plugged in. I've started her cold at 10°F before.... but she comes to life and runs so much better when she's warm already. Every 7.3 I've ever had is this way..... even power stroke 7.3's

    That would be ideal, that’s what I usually did with all my diesel trucks. We’ve downsized so my partner can go back to school and the place we live now has nowhere to easily plug the truck in. That said it usually just doesn’t get driven if it’s cold out, we’ll use the Audi instead.

    @@ReindeerBork I made a suitable extension cord with products bought at a local home depot, and just ran it from a plug in the garage. Just close the door over the cord, it won't hurt. Then she'll cheech right to life each morning with ease my man, it's worth it, highly recommended. Cheers.

    More of an OCD thing like hitting the lock button on a remote a million times. You have to push the pedal down a little to get the cold advance to engage and I do it often because in my brain if I don’t it could be broken or not working or who knows. Never a rational reason for repeating actions haha…

    How long does it take to start in freezing cold weather when it's been left longer than four days? How long does your Audi take in freezing cold weather?

  • @ReindeerBork

    @ReindeerBork

    2 жыл бұрын

    Up till -20C it will only take 2-5 seconds after sitting, if it’s only been a day at -20C almost instantly, below -25C and sitting is when it starts to take a while. The Audi starts in 1-2 second always except in extreme cold like this vid then it’ll take 2-4 seconds. Both have brand new batteries though

    @@ReindeerBork it's the setting inside the injection pump. There's 2 actual settings on these pumps. The external and internal. The piece on the inside can get bent over time. 900rpms ain't going to hurt it any. It was a bucket truck ordered from Ford, so it's probably set like that from the factory.
