405. Narrowboat Cruise to Foxton Locks

I have re-badged this vlog, as viewers may have had the impression it was about golf but it isn’t, so please take a look, as I continue my cruise and arrive at Foxton Locks. I stop on way for a pleasant summer’s day walk. What do I go and see?
Foxton Locks consist of two flights of five staircase locks, which opened in 1813 and are Grade II listed being the longest staircase flight in Britain. I also mention the short-lived Inclined Plane, which opened in 1900 and was mothballed in 1911.
These two videos explain more about the history of the Inclined Plane.

Thanks Alan, this was a great adventure to watch and I really appreciate you taking that great walk to see the lovely old railway station that is now someone's beautiful home. I'm glad that you finally got a pint as you deserved it, the drone footage was brilliant. I hope that you are doing well. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Hi Alan, glad to see you enjoyed your cruise to Foxton locks. You had a very busy start passing a number of viewers and David’s boat. The weather was an added bonus too. Thanks for putting yourself out to show us the old station 👍. I never knew golf balls were once smooth , thanks for sharing that story. I had to chuckle a bit at your bad luck in Foxton when you were trying to get a well earned pint and some chips 😂 I’m glad you got the pint in the end 🍻 sorry I’m behind with your vlogs but I’ve been away on holiday

Thank you for showing the station on a beautiful day Alan! The dimples in a golfball involve range properties, due to the areodynamics created by them. And you deserved your pint, indeed, cheers!❤

Hello Alan. It was lovely to see those crossing gates. I used to have them in the village I grew up in. Much better than today's barriers in my opinion. That was interesting about the golf balls. What a shame you didn't get your hips! A nice cruising vlog. xx

Yes I'm trying to make up for lost time. Because of the weather, I didn't start cycling this year until June. I think I've only been out 5 times. I've been trying some new places. With what's going on with me at the moment, I don't know what I'd do without my bike. All the best xx

The inclined plane has been closed off due to vandals ripping up bricks from the historic structure and throwing them down towards the locksl. As you can imagine, not only is that dangerous but threatens the lock operations and is damaging to a peice of canal heritage of which Canal and River Trust have a duty to protect. A shame, but sadly there are those about who seem intent on spoiling things for others. BTW. Was the other pub not open, Bridge 61? Does a good pint and last time we were there...cheesy chips!! Cheers for vlogs Alan, lovely to see you out and about. ❤

That makes sense and I fully agree with what you say, but bouts of hooliganism don’t last forever. The perpetrators grow up and move on, and don’t necessarily get replaced. It’s a shame, as it seems it will be closed off forever. I tend to go to Foxton Locks Inn when I’m there. I’ve actually just come back from another cruise. Hope you’re both keeping well. Keep on cruising, cheers.
