4000+HP Pro Line V8 Maintenance | XW Falcon [TECH TOUR]

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Running 45psi and 4000hp+ on factory leaf springs and 275 radials, this XW Falcon certainly catches some attention.
In this week's [TechTour] Andre talks to Frank from Dandy Engines about running Steve Bezzina's @Proline-Racing-Engines 481X powered Falcon in the ProMod drag series.
First up Andre talks with Frank about the kind speeds the @FuelTechOficial ECU controlled and @precisionturbo boosted 540ci 481X Falcon is hitting down the strip with a 6.72 at 216mph achieved at the time of filming at the 2020 Sydney Jamboree. From there the stroked Pro Line engine itself is discussed including some of the restrictions teams have to follow in the ProMod category to keep the playing field level for competitors regards of their forced induction/power adder choices or lack of.
Also talked about is the maintenance and time put into looking after these high output engines and how often teams are having to swap out valve springs, con rods and plugs along with how Frank and the team around the car often check the spark plugs to help confirm the data they get from the engine's sensors.
Lastly how strong the billet aluminium blocks these days are along with the ability to repair them if and when required, and how difficult is it to maintain a Pro Line engine outside of the USA are touched on.
At this stage, the size of the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels 275 radials on WELD Racing rims the car runs to comply with class rules are the major limiting factors with more power easily on tap to wind up with future development.

The weak link is the valve train. Think how much easier life would be if the "FreeValve" technology used in the Koenigsegg motor made it into our sport. All it takes is a whole lot of cash! You'd run out of things to do between rounds. My hat's off to Frank and the owner of the car. The sixties muscle cars is what makes guys like us really love the sport. I have a 67 El Camino, but with a 4-link and a whole lot of tire! What's your take on Oliver Rods?

Think of it like this, sensors are data, just like your spark plugs. You can look at sensor data and have no idea what you are looking at without experience. You can also look at a spark plug and have no idea you are looking at without experience. You can use wrong sensors, you ca try read 40000km old plugs thinking they will help. Long story short it isn't this vs that, you want ALL the data, but you can certainly do it wrong for any and all options no matter how analog or digital the data is - Taz.

dam putting that engine in that car is such a waste. with leaf springs and small tires, you will never get the most from that engine. why not ditch the turbos and save the weight, you will probably still be traction limited.

Future proofs it a bit, you never know what will happen down the line. To be fair the last engine this used to run split in half, and the car is much faster with this setup, so they're not exactly doing anything terribly wrong here either given they're doing what they want to with their own build and seem to be enjoying it along the way too - Taz.
