Ойын-сауық

My two Omegas get regular wear. That's why I bought them. I do get surprised at people who buy them and lock them in a vault, only to break them out on special occasions. A $100k Vacheron, I get. But a mid range luxury Omega? It's meant to be worn.

@@DavesWatchLove Every watch is meant to be worn. Just like every cloth meant to be worn or a every car meant to be driven. Someone who can afford buying a 100k watch can probably allow himself to wear it cause it will have the same value as a 4k watch for an average guy.

The right story adds a lot of value to almost anything. There is a lot that can be done for $4K! like you can buy this $400 Seiko right in Tokyo, stamp the back of the watch with the date, spend a month in this amazing country, dive deep into its culture.

Here's the problem with obsessing over accuracy. Most of us who are watch lovers rotate dozens of watches. We never get to find out or care how accurate they are. As for the beauty of the movement, seriously how often do you actually bother to turn it over and look in real life? The better question is not whether the omega is 10x better. The question is whether the omega is as enjoyable as 10 nice Seikos?

Even a very good quartz, like non-radio-controlled g-shock, loses or wins 2 ~ 3 seconds per month. The accuracy on automatic watches is expensive, it is true, but the time is relative. A watch is usually a time indicator, not a stopwatch (except for sport). If you want a watch with absolute accuracy, buy a radio-controlled quartz.

Seikos are freaking Toyota Corollas. My former boss, who is an engineer as I am, began working for the company as a lowly mechanical engineer. The first car he bought was a Corolla. Fast forward through time, he became the VP of all Engineering. Still had the Corolla, but he was getting flak for that -- I mean, a Vice President driving a Corolla? So he buys a Caddy, but keeps the Toyota for an experiment: he wants to know how long that car would last without an oil change or any maintenance. Years pass, his daughter reached college age, needs a car for school. So he takes his 25 year old Corolla, performs basic maintenance and changes the oil. Worked like a charm. His daughter graduated, got a job, brought the Toyota back to her dad. Seikos are freaking Toyota Corollas. They may not be as pretty or as high performing as Audis or Ferraris, but they still do their purpose. My former boss loves that story about his first car. And I remembered that when I bought my first car: Toyota Corolla. Guess what my watch is.

Geomancer - Great story! When it comes to flat out practicality and reliability, Seiko is king. I have a Kia Optima that will last forever. Bought it when my son was just born. He's 18 now and driving it. I want it back when he buys his next car. Other than basic maintenance, it's needed nothing. The Koreans know how to make a great car too at an affordable price. When I had my Tisell Pilot watch, I called it the Kia of watches. Under the radar, well made, most accurate of all my watches, and would run forever witnout a service. These rock solid reliable brands deserve as much horological respect as their overpriced and overmarketed luxury brothers.

A $1000 dollar Seiko will always be better built compared to an entry level $1000 Swiss, guaranteed. However as you move upwards the higher end brands just completely destroys the lower end Seikos. Until you reach the Grand Seiko where it again beats any similarly priced Swiss. Personally I find Grand Seikos too bland, whereas the Swiss and Germans has a much more appealing design.

Worth mentioning about the Omega movement: Since it is a Master Chronometer new generation calibre, it is completely antimagnetic (15000 Gauss). The balance wheel is high technology silicone wheel and hairspring and it is free-sprung, so more stable and resistant to shocks. All this contributes to performances that defy gravity (not much variation between positions) and much less prone to wear so allowing longer periods between services. It is really a world appart from the Seiko movement (that is a tough workhorse, by the way). Thanks for the video!!

Thanks for the video! Regarding long-term value, I have a Seiko dancing hands watch which I bought I think early 1990's for £350. Now they are about £100 or less second-hand, maybe it's the number that they made, I don't know. So I wouldn't say that it has gained in value during my ownership. I also have the Speedy MOTM watch which I bought new about 30 months or so ago. I think the new price has increased, but the second-hand prices still are significantly below what I paid for it, so longer term I'm unsure whether it will actually increase in value, but I bought both to enjoy rather than as investments. Both were bought as daily watches and I am quite fussy about scratches. I don't want my Speedy getting knocked about so almost immediately got the leather bracelet and keep the original metal bracelet in the box (I also prefer the feel of a leather strap). The Hesalite is still perfect and I like the fact that I can polish it easily with Polywatch if I need to. The Omega in the video looks a LOT nicer than the Seiko in the detail of the face and indeed in the bracelet, and for me that is what makes the two watches command their asking prices. The Seiko is a very nice piece, but the Omega is a much nicer watch to own and wear.

I own a Seiko SARB033 & an Ebel 1911 steel Chronometer ( ETA 2892-A2 movement ). Agree largely with Dave's review. Both watches have their pros & cons. I also agree with Geomancer's comment that the lower cost Seiko is like a Toyota Corolla. I had owned a Mercedes E320 a fews years ago and also owned Honda Civics, so what I can add to Dave's review is that the Omega may not necessarily appreciate in value ( depending on how much you paid for the watch ) as Omega is considered mid-tier ( like Mercedes.) in the horological world. What you get in the Omega is certainly a much better assembled, finished watch. I would suggest that potential buyers also look at Grand Seiko. Compare a Grand S to any Omega. I doubt anyone with any watch knowledge would rank it like the SRPB41 to a Toyota Corolla. In fact, most would agree that the Grand S is a superior watch in all aspects to the Omega

If you can easily pay cash for it and easily afford having it serviced, go for it. The key is living within one’s means. By the way, that Omega is gorgeous. Good comparison. I have a SARB065, and I'm looking to purchase an Aqua Terra (I'd love the "Skyfall" model with the date window border but given those are hard to find now, will probably go with this model.) The bottom line is that it's kind of an unfair comparison in some ways. Seiko makes some beautiful watches, and I think for the $300-400 one pays for a Cocktail Time, you're getting an enormous value per dollar. At the same time, the Aqua Terra is just in a class of its own. Expensive for sure, but you can obviously see where that money went between the fit and finish, the beautiful dial and markers, the movement, and so on. All I know is that I have much love for both of these classes of watch. When I pull the trigger on an Aqua Terra, the Cocktail Time will stay in the collection. They're both superb, and while I can understand why many in the comments would only want one or the other, I don't think it's hard to appreciate what each brings to the table.

I used to be all about Seiko and Citizen all my life, and i still do think that value for money they are probably the best out there, but after acquiring my fathers 70's Seamaster that hasn't worked for decades, i took it for a complete overhaul and polishing which costed me some good bucks, and now i can't stop wearing it and looking at it, all day i just sit at my desk at work and just stare at it's beauty. Since then i got into the hobby and added a speedmaster to my collection. There are many philosophies about why we buy a luxury watch, and in my honest opinion the main reason is status symbol and making impressions and statements on others. Nothing beats the feeling of people complimenting on your watch and wanting to hold it in their hands and being amazed.

As a lot things in life (watches, cars, fountain pens, whatever), paying 10 times won't give you 10 time more or better product. In entry level you get basic function, good performance and quality. Moving upward will give you more as price increases, better performance, quality, aesthetic, et cetera. But you will find that the price/quality-and-everything-else curve stop being up hill and start being horizontal. You are not getting 10 time more product for 10 times the price. It's all about finish, quality, and all the rest... and performance? What about that? Yes, performance too, but not x10. As things gets more especialized and complex, they get more expensive. When you pay 10 times more, you are paying por good finish, materials, quality controls, better (but not 10 times) performance, in-house movement, reserch and development ..... and marketing too (cof, cof, apple). When you pay 10 times more you want a nice strap or bracelet, more functions even when you don't really need them like haching seconds and hand wind, nice (disposable) packaging, better and close and accesible costumer support, decoration?, etc. You expect that because you actually pay for that. Entry level have to cut some corners to give the best watch at the lowest price (the most common saving is in strap/bracelet). I say "price is a feature". You can get more for less (Seiko 5 and in generally even luxury ones) or being scammed with fashion watches ($10 watches selled for $100 or more with clichés slogans like "affordable luxury", "this watch is disrupting the industry", "cutting the man in the middle", etc). Anyways Seiko has a mainstream family movement knows as "workhorse". It's the 7s family, and it can work for 10 years without servicing. People had inherited some Seiko 5 still working as day 1. Now Seiko has upgraded the 7s and created the 4r and 6r. Basicly, same movment with "more" for the people who wants to pay it. I know you are excited about your Omiga but if that Seiko ends in a basket, is because the owner didn't know how to apreciate. If you like it, want it and can afford it. Buy it and be happy. If you actually don't know why something is expensive, then don't buy it. If you don't know what are you paying, you can be scammed (fashion watches, replicas) or not apreciating what it really is.

These really need to be viewed in person. I don’t know about the seiko, but there are so many little details on the omega that you can’t really pick out on video. I’m sure the seiko has some hidden details as well. Sure those details will go unnoticed by everyone but you, but you buy a watch for you, not other people

I own a 1986 Seiko diver 6309-7049. I’ve had it serviced by a local watchmaker a couple of times. Last year the service cost $135 and that included pressure test. I still wear it sometimes and it keeps as good of time as my SKX. On an average of 10 years per service that’s as cheap as getting a battery and pressure test every 1-2 years. Having sad that I still love my Omega Seamaster 300 a lot! Even though a service on it cost $500+.

like he said in the video... not every seiko watch will have the same accuracy. every omega watch will be +0 to +5s/day. usually it's +2,5s/day out of the box, meaning they are set pretty spot on. you might be lucky if you get omega watch that runs +0,5s/day like me. also seiko watch will have more accuracy fluctuations if you wear the watch or not. at omega will always be within that limits. also markers on omega watch are made of white gold.

It's hard to put a price tag on the >15,000 gauss co-axial movement. It is state of the art and reliable beyond anything else made with regard to magnetic fields, which we encounter daily with our computers, smart phones, etc. It isn't really fair to compare the two, but the Seiko is a lot of watch for the dollar.

  • @mikemajor1399

So you’d really never service the Seiko? Once it starts running poorly you’d throw it in a draw to sit? I don’t understand. That watch will last just as long as the Omega. I just serviced my King Seiko and had the crystal replaced for less than $200. That’s a bargain. Even if you get it serviced twice while the Omega is serviced just once, it will end up costing less. Don’t get me wrong; I’ll probably have an AT at some point. I love Omega. But to say the Seiko won’t last as long is incorrect.

  • @DavesWatchLove

Mike Major - Of course one could service a Seiko and, yes, it could last as long. No doubt. I've just known some long time automatic Seiko owners who have worn their watch for 25 years, had it stop one day, and decided it was time to buy a new watch instead of servicing it. But these aren't "watch people" or people who even know about a servicing schedule. But with an inexpensive Seiko, I'm saying people are more likely to replace the watch vs servicing it. But most owners of higher end pieces would definitely service their watch before replacing it, given the value of the watch and the relatively low cost of serving compared to replacement. But yes, I'd service my SKX 20 years from now if it stopped simply because I know it's a classic and worth keeping alive. Preventative maintenance? Not so sure I'd do that though.

By the sound of it, it might be a good idea to service your SKX now, even if it's a simple oil job. 7S26 movements tend to be a bit undermaintained because people expect them to just run for >10 years without servicing, but they really shouldn't.

Nice, objective comparison between two interesting watches. I agree, Seikos are essentially disposable whereas the Omega will require and will be worth the maintenance costs. There is always that "x-factor" though, where a watch enthusiast is knowledgable enough to appreciate the differences, no matter how subtle they might me. In the end, it's all about the owner and whether they get enough enjoyment out of it. If it puts a smile on your face each time you strap it on, and it didn't prevent you from putting food on the table for your family, then what's the harm if you splurge a little every once in a while?

  • @sorindncs

Disposable? In my country 400 USD watches are considered very expensive items...luxury items only for the rich. People that aren't wealthy wear cheap 3 USD chinese quartz watches or don't wear watches at all. Cheap watches like this one: www.gearbest.com/women-s-watches/pp_672025.html So the 400USD watch is good enough and expensive enough for me....my car doesn't worth 4000 USD!

Sorry to hear about the scratched bezel. That's a scratch that would bum me out! I decided a while back to only get watches with ceramic bezels, as they are nearly scratch proof. They will likely break or crack before they scratch. I love the old Bond Seamasters with the blue bezel, but the aluminum scratches easily on those. That's why I got the steel bezel instead. At least those scratches can be buffed out. But as many have said before, those scratches give the watch character. Not that necessarily will lift your spirits. :)

I'm pretty late to this, but here's my 2 cents. If all you're looking for is practicality, then by all means, Seiko is an amazing choice along with Casio. But then again, you can also use this argument for cars, do you really need anything more than a Toyota Camry? Probably not. So what are the point of any cars that cost more than 16k? Higher end cars aren't meant to be more practical, or provide you with more value, they're made to make you feel better, to give you a better experience. And in both cases, I say, if you can afford it, hell, why not go higher end? If you're living paycheque to paycheque, maybe buying a $5000 omega is a bad idea, but if you've got the disposable income, what else are you going to use that money for? A nice house? A bigger car? More travelling? Those are all "luxury" things, you don't ever need anything like that, they just make life better. Some people might prefer a nicer watch to a bigger house, or a nicer car, and if they're happy with that, then there's nothing really wrong is there? Going for a higher end watch, may not change your life drastically, but it does give you a more premium experience, sort of like, would you rather buy several digital cameras or just a few DSLRs throughout your life. In terms of value, those digital cameras will give you more than you ever need, but someone who likes cameras, isn't going to buy them.

Simply because Omega is pumping out so many of them and it is not as timeless as your speedmaster. If the omega aqua terra stick with this design for 10 years and make it a classic, you will be right.

I ordered a Seiko Cocktail Time just today for real mechanical watch, I do own quartz radio updated watch and other regular quartz watches. My girlfriend and her son literally both walked up and said without even knowing the difference of both of these watches reviewed and said I like that one better....which one do you think they pointed at the "Seiko". Paying 10x the price is dumb, now bear in mind I've actually worn a watch that cost 200K, it wasn't mine of course a friend of mine has many very expensive time pieces. I personally, don't understand any point at spending that much money for a watch when a watch is designed to tell time. All of my citizen watches at $200-$400 can do that and in truth there has never been a point in my life where I needed a watch that I needed to be the second accurate based on my professional or fun time activities.

Mike, thanks for the comment! And yes, you'll LOVE the Cocktail Time. One thing about it is that it is an instant beauty. It grabs you right away. I hated the Aqua Terra the first time I ever saw it. I didn't like the toothy hour markers and strange hands. For years I didn't like it. Until one day, I thought, Hmmm... I can kinda see why people might like it. Which led to me looking at it more and more until one day, I decided to stop into an Omega dealer and look at one first hand. Live, and in person, it's amazing. The sparkle of the white gold elements, the teak deck dial, the perfect blue color, and simple and elegant layout was all I needed to see. I saved up and bought it. But I must admit I had buyers remorse at first. It was so "plain" and "basic" compared to gorgeous watches like the Cocktail Time. Few people notice it. But the AT is an acquired taste that grows and grows on you over time. I can safely say now it's my favorite watch I own and will be my forever watch. I will hand it down to my son one day. I feel "at one" with it. It's funny, I was just thinking today how "dumb" I feel to pay what I paid for it. So yes, there's an irrationality to it. But as a forever watch, it's money that's behind me with an investment return of great beauty and enjoyment in front of me. Best wishes!

I’m an avid collector and have a number of Seiko’s and Omegas and you’ve more chance of making money on your Seiko than your omega. For example I could make 75% profit on my new seiko presage enamel as its a very limited edition but very few under 26 years of age wear a watch and those that do wear smart watches which just going on Apple’s sales figures sell more than all Swiss watches sold combined. This societal change will only increase with the years. I won’t buy a watch over a $1200 because I think I’ll be able to pick up many of the watches I like very cheaply in the next few years.

I'm writing this as a former Omega collector: You obviously don't understand Rolex at all, at least not as much as your favored Omega. Please do some research on the 8500, and the 3135, you will know that Omega turned George Daniel's co-axial technology into a marketing gimmick. I quote from a luxury swiss brand exec "In US we are all faced with this monster, and that's Rolex. So the rest of the brands get together and say 'okay guys, 50% of the pie is gone. what are we gonna do with the rest.'". Except for Rolex, there are no other watches in the industry can offer a 5 year warranty, and promises +/-2s per day accuracy in actual wearing. The technology and precision that went into committing to this single thing is unimaginable, that's why no one has done it. Let along other unbelievable qualities of Rolex. Omega has some really amazing models back in the olden days - that's why it's vintage models are collectible. But not it's modern line up. Also, in Omega's price range, Omega DEFINITELY does NOT make some of the finest movements - check Tudor/Breitling's new movement, check Zenith El Primero, heck, check Grand Seiko's 9S movements. In terms of craftsmanship, finishing, movement reliability, GS easily blow omega out of water.

That Aqua Terra is beautiful, it's my second favorite Omega, but it won't increase in value. Just look at the prices of older pre coaxial Aqua Terra's, they're significantly cheaper than the newer ones with upgraded movements. When Omega updates the movements in their Aqua Terra's in the future, this model will fall in value. An exception to this would be if it was a limited special edition that's in high demand, then the value would rise. If you had purchased the 6r15 cocktail time for $300-350 before it was discontinued last year then it would be guaranteed to rise in value because it's a better movement then the 4r35 presage version that replaced it, and it doesn't have "Presage" written on the dial.

Good point. It reminds me that pretty much everything about watches these days is technically unnecessary. Especially a precise mechanical watch. I think it has more to do with the fascination with human accomplishment behind the accuracy of a mechanical time piece than the need for accuracy itself. Getting a mechanical watch accurate to within a few seconds a day is like watching someone fire a bullet from a thousand feet and hit the bulls eye every time. It's not necessary, but it sure is fascinating to behold.

All of this talk about the accuracy, yet some watch enthusiasts will tell you that second hands are useless because they're almost always inaccurate to some degree. With no rotating bezel and no chronograph, there is really no need to have a stupidly accurate second hand on either of these watches. If you want to use these to make sure you're on time for business meetings, set the minute hand 1 minute fast at the beginning of the week and you'll be fine. 10x the price is not worth it for a watch that has a better bracelet and that requires expensive servicing.

Why would you suggest that the value will go up; there are the circumstances where things are limited runs, and demand might be high in 10+ year, but Omega is known to make too much "limited" runs, that it'll go the route of beanie babies, too much random limited things that there will be no "resale" value because almost every watch is "limited edition". You would also be insane to think that people will pay more than retail for a used watch than just buy a brand new one, at retail. In this case, most of the same model watches are the same, but with a different dial color. Honestly, you should buy what you can afford. If some people can only spend 500 to 1000, some seikos are a great option. And won't be missing out too much from the super luxury market items. And by saying "afford" to buy, it means to buy it and keep it until either it dies, or you do. This idea of buying a watch and having it for a few years then selling it off because you cannot finance something else, means you probably couldn't have afforded to buy the watch in the first place. Affording a watch should be like buy a nice shirt or suit, it's should be considered money spent, and not needing it to hold value. It's not an investment. If you want to invest, then invest in something that is actually profitable. Watches like cars, deprecate, they make better and new ones every year. Vintage, and limited usually doesn't pan out for most people, it's always alway dumb luck when people turn profits on old and vintage items.

I personally don't think a watch should be viewed as a good investment. Factor in the cost of servicing and risk of loss or damage and depreciation. That Omega won't make money. You said yourself a second hand one was cheaper. The bottom line is, if you can afford one, and you want one, and you will enjoy one, get one. I can honestly say it would not make me happy spending that much on a watch. It would worry me. Finally, I don't get your accuracy argument, and I don't see the 10x better finish. But then again, I find some Seiko 5's look very nice, for $50 ! ! !

Yeah, when I heard that "this one will go up in value" bit I cringed hard. No. No it surely will not. And if you ever buy a watch expecting that, you're nuts.

Some watches will go up in value - handmade, very limited runs from ultra-prestige marques will tend to, but they're out of the reach of us mere mortals. A $3k mass-produced Omega? Not a chance in hell.

jonathan lloyd You can always buy brands with good reselling value like Rolex, Omega, Longines, Tag, etc. With Rolex you can most likely win money. Regarding theft or damage, you can always pay a insurance for it, if you wear it daily. You can accidentally damage a good watch only by car accident, or if you drop it form 4th floor on concrete, or if you drop your hammer on it. Otherwise it's 100times more solid than .. let's say an iphone, so you can compare.

One point ill add is about passing down watches to kids, youll treat your omega nicer, because for you its expensive, while for some people $400 may be expensive for them, and they will take care of the watch the same as a $4000 watch.

Although I have many brands of watches, Seiko truly is a fantastic brand (including Grand Seiko), and I honestly think, at least design related, Seiko makes the best looking divers in the biz. Call me crazy, but my Padi Turtle is about as good as a diver can look. Regardless, the value that one gets from a Seiko puts the company into the stratosphere

One of the problems with buyers of these very expensive watches is that they tend to have a bit of confirmation bias. After all they were convinced to buy it, and usually now need to justify their purchase. This makes it hard for many of them to be truly objective. The reviewer is essentially saying that he will keep and cherish the Omega because it is really expensive, while eventually throw away the Seiko, because it is a lot cheaper, eventho´ Seiko could also provide years and years of good service. He is willing to pay a lot to service his Omega and keep it going, but not willing to spend less on the Seiko to keep it going. It sounds like he has bought into the marketing hype just a bit.

I'm willing to plead guilty to this. There is definitely something inside you that wants to confirm what you want to be true. But I will quote myself in the video where I say clearly that the AT is definitely not ten times the quality of the Seiko. But it's definitely three or four times, maybe five times, the quality. That's where the tough decision is made. Am I willing to overpay to get a watch with an amazing bracelet, master-chronometer accuracy, anti-magnetic properties, and a dial and markers that far outpace the Seiko? That's the deal with "luxury" watches. If you want that last 20-30% of perfection and quality, you pay ten times the price. So I made the decision to pull the trigger to experience it. But note that I also enjoy my lower end pieces as well, so I'm aware of the marketing hype and what you really get for the additional cost. But I can say after a few months, when I pick up the AT, I know I'm holding something my hand that's truly a cut above. And maybe I just want that to be true when it isn't, but to the best of my objective abilities, I can say it's a definite cut above.

I really commend the insights you shared in this video. I admire how you always tied it back to value. Unfortunately, as watch enthusiasts, there's always a temptation to immediately prefer high horology and take a dump on lower-tier watches, without tempering it with common sense practicality. Yes, 9 times out of 10, a $4,000 watch is going to be better in almost every technical aspect than a $400 watch. But let's not forget, it costs 10x more. That's money you can, or often, must direct at other things, be it household needs, or other watches. The fact that a brand like Seiko offers very respectable movements and stunning aesthetics, oh that dial, for a 10th of the cost, is quite praiseworthy.

The better the item, the more it costs to make, so the higher the price. The higher the price, the slower it sells, so the profit margin must be increased. The more you increase the profit margin, even higher the price becomes, so it sells even slower, so the profit margin must be increased again, and so on. So, though you may get more if you pay more, it can't possibly be commensurate with how much more you pay. Something can only be so much better. Like the speed of light, the closer you get, the smaller the increments of speed and the more energy it requires. Proof that the principles of physics are applicable to everything.

I have the Alpinist I bought several years ago and a Speedmaster I bought new in 1975. I like the Alpinist more, the gold markers and hands look really nice on the dark green background. Beautifully finished too, easily matches the Rolex I got rid of which, by the way, I had to change the mainspring on twice! My 7s26 movements are hard to beat and last. The 6R15 in the Alpinist is a really nice movement. Everyone compliments the watch. Only watch collectors know watches, the general public just sees a watch, do I want to impress watch collectors. No more than I want to impress pen collectors! I'll take the Seiko over the Omega, if you want accuracy buy a cheap quartz watch, hard to beat the accuracy of a temperature controlled oscillator like in the Bulova if you need to really have accuracy, which no one needs anyway. Really who needs a watch that's accurate to a few seconds a year. What? You go into a meeting and the boss says you're 7 seconds late? Really come on, give me something to work with here!

Thanks for the excellent comment. A few thoughts come to mind: - I've never handled an Alpinist, but I hear it's quite impressive. It really speaks to Seiko's ability to create unique, but classic time pieces that will one day be admired and sought after by collectors. - Accuracy certainly isn't necessary in today's world, but knowing that 100 years ago, the lack of accuracy in mechanical time pieces meant trains were colliding on the tracks, there once was a huge need to make an mechanical time pieces more accurate. This was long a holy pursuit of mechanical watch makers - to make a more accurate mechanical time piece - and this hobby is largely about holding forth the traditions behind mechanical watch making. - I admire my Aqua Terra's accuracy, but more than that, I admire its consistency. Plus 2.6 second a day, every day, every time. Is that necessary? Heck no. But is it impressive? This whole hobby is about admiring things we don't need. - It's similar to Bolova making a watch that's accurate to a few seconds a year. Why? Same reason we climb mountains. Because they are there. Someone will one day introduce the watch that's atomically accurate to +/- 0.25 seconds a year, and will we need that? No. But will someone still pursue it? I imagine someone is. - I never bump into a watch collector, so no one's ever admired my time pieces except for the salesman at the jewelry store. So yes, at the end of the day, my watch is just a watch to most people. I kind of like that, knowing that my admiration of my watch is a private thing between me and the watch. It takes away that accusation (that I've gotten in this thread) that the only reason I'd by an Omega Aqua Terra is for status and to impress people. Hasn't happened yet! I just love the watch. - Again thanks for the comment. All the best!

Both are beautiful but the Seiko has so much better bang for buck, it boils down to budget and desire. I just had a complete service done on my speedmaster triple date, over $1000.00. Could just buy another $400.00 dollar seiko.
