400+ rwhp First Gen Dodge Cummins Cold Start with big Powerjet Injectors
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video it was cold so I decided to see how the injectors I have been running would start in near 0F temps. It lit right off just like always but with the advanced timing and 10degF temps it will clearly take several minutes for it to warm up and the idle smoke to clean up. The smoke ring show is my favorite part. :-)

Damn engine didn't even make a full revolution
That first smoke ring came right at the camera! Nice shot!
It’s amazing how clean those power jets are! Good ole ve pump engine always lights off fast even it the cold they are firing within the first revolution😎
Sounds great Brian. Starts like a mechanical! 🙂
That’s a nice sounding engine
Love the smoke rings!!!
I'm jealous! I wish it was eleven degrees in this neck of the woods 😂

I still remember last Jan when you were standing in more snow @ 9 deg when you fired up ole Bettsy, Could see old faithful after the rebuild still doing well,,,Double Nickle Brian ! We are in a heat wave dw here, may 39 today, but 19 WChill sucks! Bear
Love the smoke rings. Nice work, thanks for the look.
Great Smoke rings :)
That sounds great!
Thanks for sharing in the cold.
what a champ!
Sounds good!
Hope mine last that long.
Fired right up like it should!
👍👍right on feller...i miss running a VE pumped rig on a daily basis..they light off so well.. Even in the cold... gonna try some pilot holed nozzles in the near future on a 6B or ISB ... as always, thanks for the video 👊
Got to be right for a Cummins to light off that fast and it to be that cold. I liked the old D8's and 7's and 6's with straight pipes. The 8's with pony motors could get a smoke ring going and it 80 degrees outside. blessings to Bagdad!
you ever going to do another shop update looks like the last one was 3yrs ago

@@bcbloc02 I'd love to see a shop update - it was the shop build/rebuild that brought me here to watch every video you post. I have no idea what you are doing with timing and turbos and stuff but find it interesting just the same. I always enjoy the real life feel to the channel - wishing you health and strength in 2024
Yeah my first Gem turns over quicker than my 2nd gem. She never has any issues starting in the cold.
Awesome!
Thanks!
It starts better than my Honda
Just like it was July 1st👍
I live in metric land so had to check what 11F is, and man, thats brrrr!
Now how did you teach that truck to blow smoke rings did anybody else see it
Hey Brian
Not even a stumble, busted right over... you got block heaters plugged in ?
@bcbloc02

Not plugged in. Just one cycle of the grid air heater and it lit right off. I think the new valve job when I had the head off for the gasket helped it out a little. from the previous year.
How far do you have your timing advanced? I have mine about 1/8” advanced and feel like it needs more, it seems to run stronger when it’s cold enough for the ksb to be engaged. Do you have any videos on setting the timing? Thanks

Are the quick lights on a VE pump from the lower nozzle valve pressure/ crack pressure or?

@@bcbloc02do they light fast because of lower inj pressure??.. nozzle opening pressure?
@bcbloc02

@@elroyelblander6277 I would say mostly because they start with retarded timing. My timing is probably about 12deg at start its not till it builds full pressure that it can advance to 25deg.

Im building a 93 d250 to do the hot rod power tour ,the build is 63/68/12 turbo,3 piece manifold, studs springs an push rods,5x16 injectors, ppd hvlp lift pump,my? Is how bad is it to replace the large oring seal on the rear of the ve pump?
@bcbloc02

Hard to do with it on the truck, I would pull the pump and do it where you can put the pump o a vertical orientation that will make it a lot easier. If you are careful you can slip the o ring over the end and get it in thegroove without taking the head off the pump just back the screws out enough to fish the o-ring out.

I feel cheated. hardly even heard the starter spin...............................Two Thumbs Brian .
Seems to be quite a bit a white smoke a lot of unburnt fuel. 😊

Yep, should have started driving to get some heat in it! They take forever to warm up idling.
That didn’t even act like a cold start😂. You can tell you must have things dialed in pretty well and not just dumping a bunch of extra fuel in it
That's considered a brisk start in my parts. Zero seems to be the breaking point. After that is still not a deal breaker with good batteries and functional grid heaters. I think a guy has to get into some stupid big slobbering injectors before it becomes noticeable.
Needs a muffler!
