400+ rwhp First Gen Dodge Cummins Cold Start with big Powerjet Injectors

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video it was cold so I decided to see how the injectors I have been running would start in near 0F temps. It lit right off just like always but with the advanced timing and 10degF temps it will clearly take several minutes for it to warm up and the idle smoke to clean up. The smoke ring show is my favorite part. :-)

Got to be right for a Cummins to light off that fast and it to be that cold. I liked the old D8's and 7's and 6's with straight pipes. The 8's with pony motors could get a smoke ring going and it 80 degrees outside. blessings to Bagdad!

@@bcbloc02 I'd love to see a shop update - it was the shop build/rebuild that brought me here to watch every video you post. I have no idea what you are doing with timing and turbos and stuff but find it interesting just the same. I always enjoy the real life feel to the channel - wishing you health and strength in 2024

Not plugged in. Just one cycle of the grid air heater and it lit right off. I think the new valve job when I had the head off for the gasket helped it out a little. from the previous year.

How far do you have your timing advanced? I have mine about 1/8” advanced and feel like it needs more, it seems to run stronger when it’s cold enough for the ksb to be engaged. Do you have any videos on setting the timing? Thanks

@@elroyelblander6277 I would say mostly because they start with retarded timing. My timing is probably about 12deg at start its not till it builds full pressure that it can advance to 25deg.

Hard to do with it on the truck, I would pull the pump and do it where you can put the pump o a vertical orientation that will make it a lot easier. If you are careful you can slip the o ring over the end and get it in thegroove without taking the head off the pump just back the screws out enough to fish the o-ring out.

That's considered a brisk start in my parts. Zero seems to be the breaking point. After that is still not a deal breaker with good batteries and functional grid heaters. I think a guy has to get into some stupid big slobbering injectors before it becomes noticeable.
