40 Moments #9: The 133-1 Classic Upset of Arcangues

Ойын-сауық

Deft horsemanship can go unrecognized when what is perceived as a flukish, freakish upset occurs in a great race.
In the case of Arcangues' victory as a 133-1 shot in the 1993 Breeders' Classic (G1), the appearance might have been a result without logic. Conversely, the result had been lurking for a number of weeks in that wonderful mystery world of "possibilities" which horse racing harbors.

a fantastic victory, he was the son of the French crack "SAGACE" a great champion with fragile legs, his sire died at just 7 years of age leaving very few descendants, a great loss for French and even international breeding. Then ''Arcangues'' was unfortunately sold, and I've never understood why his owner didn't keep him as a stallion either in France or in the USA. He was one of the very rare descendants of "SAGACE" himself descended from a great "French stallion", a very precious offspring that has no price, the lure of gain makes human beings do anything.
