Currently going through the whole watering wand deal and seeing exactly what you're talking about. I'll try the Dramm setup like you mention. I purchased a Flexzilla air hose for my woodworking shop many years ago and it's the best air hose I've had. I saw the Flexzilla water hose several years ago and took a chance on it and I 100% agree. The Flexzilla water hose has been our main water hose for for our home ever since. Can't go wrong with it.

You sold me on Flexzilla, because I am a big fan of Dramm and have used various products from them and they all last longer than any product you can find. So, if you are right about Dramm, which I know you are, I am sure you are right about Flexzilla. Placing online order at Home Depot now. Thanks, and Subscribed!

I think this year I'm going to try the Dramm 13604, which is their multimode version of the 12501 you linked to. 80%+ of my watering will be with the shower mode but I do have some larger areas I can't fully walk (wildflower areas) and some shrubs my hose doesn't reach but the water can.

That was an AWESOME video! Everyone (at least the serious gardener) is always searching for quality products that last. One-season cheap items are such a waste of money and in the long run end up costing way more! Plus, having a tool shed full of crappy tools that keep accumulating is so frustrating! SO THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE AND RECOMMENDATIONS! One quick question...I couldn't tell how the handle works. Is it a lever pull? A button push? A slide? What is the on/off mechanism?

It's a small lever controlled with your thumb. Seems like they change the mechanism from year to year. I think some have the squeeze type mechanism, or the kind that turn on and off like a dial.... link is fixed!

The pattern on that well-used Flexzilla hose looks just like a big ol' snake draped over the hose holder on the tree! 😂 I've had my 75' SwivelGrip Flexzilla hose for 2 years and absolutely love it. But, unfortunately, the SwivelGrip (male) fitting recently came out of the end of the hose and it has a crimped metal "collar" on the end of the hose. I assume the fitting is put into the hose and the collar is then crimped to hold the fitting in place. I managed to get the fitting back into the hose by banging the cpra out of it, but it only lasted a few days before it came out again. So, I had to file a warranty claim and hopefully they will either replace the hose, reimburse me for it, or send me a repair kit. Once it's taken care of, I'm probably gonna buy another Flexzilla SwivelGrip hose for watering my garden beds, but I'm gonna go with a 100-footer!

Thank you Savvy Dirt Farmer. I don't know where you are located, but I live in the Midwest and it gets pretty cold. I just wondered if you've had any experience on how Flexvilla will do around November when I need to clean the leaves out of my gutters. I just wonder if it will stiffen or get hard like the hose that I have now. They get cold and they lose their all flexibility.

  • @savvydirtfarmer

Last summer they had some good sales on the flexzilla. i got 2 50 footers and a 100 footer. I sold all my rubber craftsman for pretty good money so have very liitle $ in the flexzilla after selling my old hoses. The all rubber hoses are super heavy, especailly the 100 footers. Love the light weight of the felxzilla. I bought a hose reel that has wheels from tractor supply. So easy to roll up when I am finished watering. I also was at walmart last monnth and seen they had a 1/2 50 ft flexzilla with quick connects and got one of those too for the back spigot. Its very light weight and like the spray patterns with the nozzle you get, I would like to get one of those wands but not for $62. What did you pay for yours?

I do like Flexzilla hoses but the fittings are not a good choice and not sure why they are doing this. They are made with anodized aluminum (which doesn't matter if it is anodized or not) and most homes have brass for their spigots (taps). What ends up happening is galvanic corrosion because the two are not compatible. I would never invest in any product if it will cause issues and it doesn't take long for this to happen.

That black-ness gets on every hose I've ever had. I hand clean mine off every spring. If you leave a hose outside for over a year or two, you're gonna get that black stuff on it. It's the same crap you have to clean off your patio furniture (and my pool deck). Pollen season is filthy; and if you live in very humid climates, it's worse. So if you don't get that black stuff on your hoses, you must live in the desert, or somewhere less humid or where there are no pollen producing trees/plants. FYI, it wipes right off if it bothers you; it bothers me cause I'm a clean freak, lol; which is why I wipe mine down every spring. I have a Flexzilla hose for my pressure washer, that stays put up in the garage; it's still a pristine green color, with no black on it, and no kinks ever.

  • @brianhoekstra9841

It will rot and the black color is from the decomposition of the synthetic rubber coating. It is harder than pine tar to get off of your hands. One day in the sun and it stiffens into the shape it was left in and you will never be able to coil it neatly again.

That black-ness gets on every hose I've ever had. It's not the hose decomposing 🤦‍♀, it's the same crap you have to clean off your patio furniture every spring. Pollen season is filthy; and if you live in very humid climates, it's worse. And FYI, it wipes right off, I wipe my hoses down every spring (I'm a clean freak). If you leave a hose outside for over a year or two, you're gonna get that black stuff on it, period. Also, I have a Flexzilla hose for my pressure washer, that stays put up in the garage; it is still a pristine green color, with no black on it, and NO KINKS ever! And if you had that kind of a reaction to your hose after 1 day in the sun, you could immediately return it to the store for a refund, and I would say you probably bought a knock off or something; because that just doesn't happen to this hose. It is extremely flexible, hence the name. If I were you, I would buy another Flexzilla hose from Home Depot or Lowe's and give it another shot. The only way that 1 day rot could possibly happen is if you live on the sun 😂
