    Been off of lexapro for over 3 weeks now after taking this med for 4 years. Quit cold Turkey. Aside from the ringing in my ears, ocassionsl dizziness and unbridled fits of rage, I feel more energized, more in tune with the present, less bloated and my libido and ability to orgasm has returned full force. I intend to continue staying off it and will never take this med again. It helped at first but negatives began to outweigh the benefits.

    Whats disturbing to me is that this woman is having pretty bad memory problems at a fairly young age. I ve been on various antidepressants for almost 30 years. I m currently trying to get off Lexapro. My issues are similiar. Besides anxiety, I get brief periods of pretty bad depression and some agitation. Bravo for all who are trying to withdraw.

    I don't understand people who feel the need to ditch antidepressants after they "get better." It's not aspirin. The underlying cause, if not addressed, will continue to impact your mental health. Taking away antidepressants without significant achievement in therapy is like giving up your chemo before the cancer is in remission.

  • @WorIdwideMillionaire

    @WorIdwideMillionaire

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@codacreator6162 that’s with any medication. If you’re referring to me when talking about ditching the medication, I got better for 2 months and then got 5 times worse than the original cause of starting for about 8 months. So bad that i started to develop OCD. Of course, underlying themes not addressed will continue to haunt. But that should be the main goal regardless. The goal should not be to be on those antidepressants from hell the rest of your life. They aren’t the fix. They’re the shitty bandaid that falls off after a couple months. They completely change how your brain produces serotonin naturally. I was fucked up for a good 4 months after quitting cold turkey.

    I've been on 20mg for over six months , recently just got tired of taking those had a feeling like they are not helping me at all. I decided to gradually quit them . I am aware I might have done that too quick since I stoped taking them in 3 weeks . Yesterday had a pretty bad day. I was puking like crazy, felt like fainting through all day. My mind felt all blurry and couldn't really think straight. At the end of the day I started feeling a bit of shocks through all my body. I decided to take 10 mg today and see how I feel . My body feels much better although not the happiest about going back to those. For anyone reading this I just wanted to give an advice to really take your time with quitting those. If you do it too quick the withdrawal symptoms won't let you keep up with the day.

    I am with you! The forgetfullness is almost hurmous its so bad lol . I am coming off 20mg lexapro cold turkey. It is very difficult to deal with but there is a small piece of me that feels more alive now if that makes sense. It is important to learn how to self assess. Is there actually something wrong with me? Is this a side effect? All I can describe is that you are in a confusing room with insane noises while trying to ignore it all to live your life. It will get better. Stay strong and get off it. Going back to it will just lead you back to suffering. That is why I refuse to give up days served suffering because no matter how you get off the withdrawals are coming.

    Two years ago I quit taking it, I actually gradually went off of it throughout a month. Flu like symptoms and random crying in public which weirds people out of you’re a dude. this was the withdrawal, AFTER the withdrawal..... HOLY FUK, as soon as I woke up every morning, I didn’t want to be alive. Nothing sounds fun, the feeling of dread is unimaginable. I wrote about the feeling, it was like I was in the middle of the ocean swimming but knew I would eventually drown. The scariest part was not knowing if these feelings would ever go away. I was driving Uber at the time and couldn’t drive much because I would have to be on the phone almost constantly with a family member or someone that I was close to. It’s like you are just reaching out for anything or anyone. I lost about 20 pounds in a month. I had to force myself to eat half a sandwich for lunch, it had no taste but I would get a little mood boost and then I could finish the other half at dinner. I felt so much better at night, I would feel almost normal, then again the next morning, a crippling dread and depression. I was like a child that needed his hand held to go outside. I went back on it after that month of terror, I didn’t see an end in sight.

    Currently tapering off lexapro, I started off at 20mg, went down to 10, which kind of made everything feel meaningless for a while, but I bounced back after a month or so, then went down to 5 which was relatively challenging, insecurity was high and I was feeling pretty neurotic, and then after 2 months I was fine just staying on 5, now I’ve gone down to 2.5mg for about 2 months, my diet is kind of suffering but not too bad, had REALLY bad insecurity issues up until now; now they’re completely fine, but I do still have slight stomach problems, but it’s definitely getting better, I’ve been sometimes skipping days to test the waters, but even then I’m still fine up until maybe the 4th day of skipping, so I think the best time to stop taking lexapro fully is when you feel normal at 2.5ish mg. (It’s hard to cut my 10mg tablets into quarters so it’s sometimes inconsistent), but I think even going down to zero from 2.5 will be absolute hell. That’s my experience so far and hopefully this comment can be like a guide of sorts to others. If anyone has any questions, please ask and I’ll do my best to give a helpful response. As a side note, NEVER go cold turkey from 5mg or above. Tried going cold turkey from 5mg and nearly had to beg my pharmacist to give me more medication because I felt so horrible.

    You can only cone off safely by going down 10% of your regular dose each month. So if regular dose was 20mg then 10% off that 20mg minus 2mg =18mg first month then 2nd month 18mg minus 1.8mg 16.2 and so on so forth.

    Antidepressants are not recommended for long term use but unfortunately a lot of people use them long term. Post-partum moms usually only use them for a few months to balance out the chemicals in the brain that got messed up from pregnancy. Therapy is 80% effective at treating long term mental health. The other 20% is the antidepressant usage. It’s only supposed to be used to find temporary relief until you can get yourself into therapy and find ways to cope.

    That’s right, doctors don’t tell you and it’s sad! They don’t inform a lot of their patients about this information! All they care about is making money!
