    I've always appreciated BTBAM's approach of using animal sounds at least once on a record to emphasize a part xD

    Craziest sound I’ve used in a sound design application: I told someone to put a tape into a VCR, I recorded the sound of him putting in the VCR tape with voice memos on my iPhone, and in my daw, I slowed it down to a super huge low drone, and it sits under everything in a song I’m writing. It came out super nice and I was honestly surprised it turned out so well

    That sounds awesome, made me think of Kazinski - Nightcall right away when you brought up the vhs, do you make that a theme with a lot of your songs using the lower pitch with a voice memo ?

    One thing to REALLY keep in mind here... the arrangement on the original track in this video is already pretty great. It's dynamic, and allows additional dynamic elements like these to be successfully incorporated with the mix. If you're trying to add impact and you're finding that the timing is off, or that they're not fitting into the mix at all, chances are the energy levels in the arrangement could use a little adjustment.

    On my last song I used some machine samples to give one part an industrial, "robotic" feel. In another part I used an ambulance siren, panned from left to right, so it sounds like it's passing by. And I even used the famous Godzilla roar back from 1954 movie :D

    One way I've done explosions at the beginning of the chorus is automate the cymbals to be a little louder for the first beat or two of the chorus. It's not quite as powerful as adding samples; it's kind of a compromise between using explosion samples and doing nothing to the transition at all

    My bands 2013 EP had whale sounds, lion roars, a rattlesnake strike and tons more lol. Personally I would say the rattlesnake strike could be extremely useful for empty spaces and a “reverse snare” effect. Almost like an egg shaker into a whip sound. I’m honestly curious to see what other species of snakes could bring to the table.... 🐍🍽

    How did u reverse the clip?

  • @punkfreak1414
    @punkfreak14143 жыл бұрын

    Does it matter what the bpm of a song is? Or will each sample automatically fit to whatever your tempo is on the grid? Also for the reverse cymbal effect does it matter if the sample doesn’t match the cymbals of the actual drum kit?

  • @joeymusic

    @joeymusic

    3 жыл бұрын

    You can tempo match them as we have embedded bpm data into the samples. For reverse cymbal effects, I don’t think it matters if it matches or not.

    Explosions live: the drummer whacks a tom and snare... while high-kicking both kinds of cymbals. If the drummer is short, it's more like a Shaolin flippy drop-kick thing.

    @@KeepTheGates those were the 70's, tape machine had at most 16 tracks and Page was a pioneer of many recording techniques to get the most out of what he got. If the Zeppelin was a 2000's band they probably would use the new technologies to improve their records. In the 70s they were criticized for some innovations they brought to music the same way you are criticizing this video.
