4 ways to do funnel pour art - The 3rd one is my favorite.

Funnel pours are a great way to bring some variety to your acrylic paint pour. In the video we use thick paint, thick paint with silicone, thing paint, and do a travelling open cup pour with a mini funnel.
The third painting I get a little crazy and pull out my cake decorating lazy suzan to help preserve my beautiful circular composition from the funnel pour.

    I'm not sure how far I"m going to take this. I just turned 71 yesterday and it's a hoot so far. I can see how easy it would be to create hundreds of paintings in a relatively short time. I'm already looking at converting a 3 season room into a all year room so I can paint all the time. I hope to create a few very nice pieces that I can hang up in my house and maybe stop then. Watching your videos and lessons learned have helped me avoid some beginner's mistakes. Still working on paint consistencies!@@LeftBrainedArtist

Although, I do like the one with “yellow lightening” a lot also. One of my favorite ways to use the funnel is to flood the canvas & then let the funnel pour from an inch or so above in different patterns, then tilt. I saw BRTurner do it on his KZread. It’s fun & very different.

    Brilliant description again. Thankyou David for all your insight and information. You didn't use a base puddle? Is there a specific reason for this. Would you lose less paint definition if the base went over the sides instead of the colours? Congrats too on your subscriber milestone 🎨👍♥️🤓

    Honestly, I have never bought Aussie Floetrol. I just don't see the draw when I believe there are ways to get just a good of cells with local ingredients. I've had quite a bit of success with craftsmart white glue and American Floetrol but I don't have the "this works just as well" recipe yet.

    Because when you tilt the bottom of the corners especially get left without paint. This way I know they are painting up front and don't have to go back and repaint later.

    I have a question about the paint tilted off. Is it possible to strategically stack your colors in such a way that the colors you want to keep are less likely to be tilted off? For example, in a funnel pour the color at the bottom will most likely tilt off, but in a tree ring pour , the color on top will most likely be tilted off, so would it make sense to utilize the idea of a "waste" color? Not meaning waste in the sense of ugly, but maybe save the "special" colors or theme colors for the part less likely to go over the side? It may not even be worth thinking about, but here I am, thinking about it anyway...🤔

  • @LeftBrainedArtist

    @LeftBrainedArtist

    You have that exactly right. The last colors out of the cup/funnel will be the ones in the middle of canvas and less likely to tilt off. I use more base paint in either my base coat or on the bottom or top of my cup (depending on how I am pouring it out) to help compensate for this.

    Ok so I'm a bit confused now... I've watched LoOoTtTsSs of pouring videos from many different artists and each of them do each of same basic techniques a lil differently but always with the basic "rules" (and using that word "rules" very loosely!) of each technique being the same from person to person... Until now... This is the 1st time I've seen someone do funnel pours onto a dry canvas instead of first pouring a puddle on the canvas and then funnel empties into that puddle... The results r quite different between dry canvas and puddle... Both r beautiful tho!

    Just depends on the effects you want. I had no silicone in my cup and I didn't put a base coat down to create special lacing/cells. It isn't required just depends on how you want it to look.

    @Christina S That's what is SO AMAZING about fluid art!! 👏👏👏 There are no "rules" really, just DIFFERENT techniques and DIFFERENT styles, and DIFFERENT results! 👏😊👏 That's how I see it anyway!🤷‍♀️🤗 Every creator just does what "feels right", once you start, those creative instincts kick in! Just like when David changed up his plan and decided to do that "spin" to preserve the middle design. I just started this art media when I discovered it on 6/7/22 and I "poured" my first canvas that day! (Well, it didn't really "pour" because I didn't understand about the "medium" and I just used Tempera Paints with no medium! 🤣🤦‍♀️🤣and I actually love that painting! I have since continued to learn and I have tried so many techniques already on my Channel. You just have pick one technique that you want to try and jump in. It won't always be "successful" or turn out how you "like", BUT you will learn something every time!! 👏👏👏
