4 Things You Didn’t Know About Chickens
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
#1 Chickens can kill a snake
-chickens can peck really hard
-Who do you think would win in a fight; chickens or a snake? A group of chickens will surround a snake and peck it to death, then eat it. I’ve seen it with my own two eyes.
#2 Chickens Don’t Sleep In The Nest, They Sleep Up On A Stick
-One nest box is all you need for every 6 or 7 chickens you have
-Some people might think each chicken needs their own nest box, but they can share cuz they're only in there when they lay an egg
#3 Chickens can be very loud
-You might think that roosters are the only loud ones, but hens can be very loud too. Hens aren’t loud as often as roosters, but when they’re loud they’re very loud. The thing about the hens is they’ll all chime in and you’ll have a couple hens going, look out!
#4 Even if you free range your chickens they need a nest box and food in the coop 24/7
-They will not get enough free ranging, there aren’t that many bugs to go around.
-You don’t want them laying eggs in random places, they need to have the nest boxes available so they can go there and lay eggs

I'm glad I'm not the only one who talks to the chickens like they understand me! Lol
Becky, the homesteading suits you so well. You look happy, healthy and have lost a lot of weight from your first videos. It's quite inspirational to be honest.
I had a group of chickens that use to kill all the mice and rats
The end part...LMAO!! The chickens are the pigs...so true! 😂👍

THey are loud. We've been thinking about having chickens in our suburban back yard but now I'm rethinking it with their loudness level. Thanks Becky!!!
5. Gotta watch your back when you have treats in the coop. LOL!!! Great video.

Hens are so cute and fun
I love you videos by the way🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔
Keep doing the funny end parts!!!
Love the edits at the end of your videos! We have 5 chickens we have raised since they hatched at Christmas time 2015. The just started about 3 weeks ago producing eggs and I can't tell who's more excited myself or the kids!! We have had a few 4 egg days lately!! It's amazing! We do have a feisty white leghorn though... reminds me of your hen at the end. What I do want to say is our 5 girls all sleep in 2 of the 3 nesting boxes we have in their coop. Yes, that's right in their nesting boxes. They come out in the mornings and go in to lay their eggs their too. So we have to check every night before their bed time to make sure they do not crush their eggs. It's the oddest thing. My daughters ag teacher said the same thing...so very odd. So we took pictures to show her! She could not believe it! Love you channel & we are learning a lot from you! Thank you for making these videos!

+Lisa Queen I fine that when they sleep in the nest boxes it's because they don't feel safe on their roost for some reason. Raccoon or possum stalking them at night, maybe a neighbors dog. Hens are very picky girls.

Becky's Homestead Thank you. This is our first go so I appreciate the help. Their home is going to be upgraded in about a month, maybe that will help. I will have to see what I can figure out for now though... Looks like I will need to do some research here.
Becky just LOVES her chickys!
I agree with the hens are loud :) I'm loving to follow me around and talk to me when I'm in the garden

Hello, I have begun to look at your side and now I want to say thanks for the many new impressions of chicken I got. I have 11 hens and 1 rooster, 3 days ago I discovered that eight of the chickens is complete without feathers in the neck and now also on the wings, three of the chickens there is nothing wrong with. There may be one or more who can give me an explanation and possibly tell me what I can / should do about this problem. ?? Thanks in advance Bente
Becky is a trip,💚 watching the video s

Loves the video!! Debating whether to get goats or chickens. Done lots of research on both and have room for either. What are your suggestions, goats or chickens??
them are some good looking tasty chickens
Don't hens let out an enormous cackle when they've laid an egg!!??

and eat them too.
I just got new baby chickens thx for the tips
Why are my hens pooping in the nest box ? I also think they are sleeping them , it’s near their two roosts
The end kills me when she said the chicken is a pig cause it took the whole bread🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The piggy is actually behaving like a doggy
Hi Becky, I am a new subscriber and enjoy your videos. I have a question, if your chickens do have worms, do their poop/messy bottoms mean they do have worms also? If so, should I bath the ones with the messy bottoms and with what? Thank you.
Yep. It sure does hurt when they peck!
I love the ending of your videos. The things that you edit out. My mother knows first hand about chickens laying their eggs all over the place. We had about 5 chickens and an old abandoned house next to us on our property and all the chickens would go there and lay their eggs. My mother could not figure out where they were all going to. She looked under their one day and say about 500 eggs under there. We did have two roosters and one day, there was a fox in the yard. The two roosters ganged up on them and beat the tar out of the fox. That was the funnest thing I ever saw in my entire life. Keep up all the great work and if you have anymore food that you cook, please place them in here as well. I have done all the food cooking you have done on here.

+Becky's Homestead thank you so much. I have run out of things to cpk that I grew up with.
Your chickens are funny.
I didn't know that one laying box could work for 7 chickens ....interesting!
You can free range with no food as long as you have the correct ratio of birds to property/ forage. I have done it for years. Also chickens will sleep in there nest box if they find it to be more comfortable than the roost.
My chickens sleep on their nest!! I had them since they were 3 days old and now they are 10 months.
You should do more videos like this. More about your milk goats as well.
Becky I love your videos. My favorite thing to do on sundays is to watch your videos. I have a question. how many egg laying chickens do I need to yield 60 eggs a month?
@kkschickensandhomestead2623

+KK's Chicken Farm opps I just cought on. lol.
I had a pet bantam rooster for 17 years. And he recently died. Now I am ready for a new pet chicken and I am so torn. Soooo many beautiful breeds to choose from!!
You said that chicken only sleeps on rod of wood but my chicken sleeps in their nest boxes
I took my grandkids to breakfast on the farm. Each county picks a host farm to teach about farming. My granddaughter was attracted to the baby goats and the chickens. She is not even two yet, but she wanted to be by the chickens.
Neil is so cute.
I have the same food holder and same chickens :o everything is true because, I know all this stuff :-D
Good morning from California
I new all of those
I give my chickens Milk from whatever's leftover from the Cows .& They love it
Becky just wondering if you ever have problem with snakes trying to steal the eggs?
i got my chickens today :D
Buff Orpington OMGGGGG
I have 4 Chickens 2 yellowens and 2 black 0nes the other time i looked in the nest to pick up the eegs and ther was a very little egg.
i like the unedited parts...
My cousin's chickens are so aggresive they gave me a bruise ,but my chickens are very sweet and affectionate they've never pecked me before
I have chickens so I have experienced all of this.
Sometimes you become rude to ur hens lol
One time I put food in my hand and put my hand out for the chickens to eat some treats and one of them pecked me so hard I have a red mark on my hand!
i glad you did more chicken videos but will one chicken be able to kill one by its self i only have one in one coop and we have snakes,
Becky don't tell me your afraid of chickens after all these years~!'
Thanks for the video! I have a couple of questions: 1. I have kept a plastic egg in with my hens for a year or more and it disappeared the other day. I went and got 6 more and they are now gone! Any ideas? 2. My hens have suddenly stopped laying in the nests. This was coincident with a bear getting into my barb a couple of times - the chickens were not bothered, as they are in an internal coop, but it may have been traumatic for them. It has been several weeka now, but still nothing. I keep food in the coop 24/7 and keep fresh straw in the nest box's. I have found sme outside, but not enough to account for the loss. Help? I am getting hungry, Thanks for any ideas!

for question 1 i think the chickens may have been taking the eggs out and hiding them and the way i did it was for the first few weeks i put a plastic egg in there so they knew where to lay and then when i found all the eggs in there then i took it out and i'm done with that no more plastic eggs so maybe they saw the eggs where not hatching so they moved it and for 2 maybe they need gravel just put a few hands worth of very small rocks but not sand just very small rocks/pebbles. i hope this helps!
I knew all of these.
Do you provide light in the winter to keep egg production? If so what do you feel about the hormone cycle of the chickens being interrupted?

6 eggs in 3 different hen nests..I'm gonna let it ride out..
1. Didn’t know that :) 2. Did know that actually! :D 3. They are so loud ikr! 4. Did know that also actually! :D
Jajajajajajajajaja the hen it's so funny
My chickens will catch and kill mice, frogs, small wild birds, and baby birds as individuals, but they get so confused when they see hedgehogs. It's so cute and funny to watch when they find an apple that's fallen off the tree in the garden, because as a group, they rip pieces off to share.
And also you didn't know... Chickens sits in your lap *only if your friends with the chicken*🫰
Can you make a video about your ducks?
