At least Scotty knows the difference between running and fixed. I worked as a technician for 40+ years and that was one of the hardest concepts to train techs. The other is that if you have an assembly with several identical parts that receive the wear and one has gone bad, change them all. If you do not you will be chasing the problem until all are replaced anyway. The parts are most often cheaper than your time.

It's that many time mechs won't really know what wrong and fix the wrong part...... It even has a name in mach game " parts changer" or "throwing parts" Then they still have to charge for parts and labor because they technically did the work but don't solve problem..........

Was going to sell it but gave it to a family member instead after I bought a minivan. The engine and transmission is still perfect. The only thing it needs is new suspension parts, which the family member is getting placed before driving it.

Hi Scotty; I have had a coolant loss problem for several months on one of my 2000 saturn sl1's that I operate(I have 3 on the road). Car didn't have any leaks that I could find. The level in the overflow tank keep going down about a pint a week. I checked head gasket with a pressure tester. Checked the cooling system with a 15 psi pressure tester at the overflow tank.; no leaks there, either. Then one day, I was at a Turkey Hill store and left the car running. Though I would be out in a couple minutes only to find the store very busy and only one person at the checkout. 25 minutes later; I returned to the car and found a cloud of steam billowing forth from under the hood! At last!I realized that the problem was the coolant fan wasn't working! Back into The store and $24 later with a gallon of 50:50 antifreeze; I carefully returned home and checked the fan motor with a DVM. The fan was open circuit. That was the cause of my leak problem. $30 for a new one on ebay and all is well!

Fun fact: each one of those ignition coils is $150+. I also own a kia forte and i have to maintain it weekly to make sure it doesn’t have problems. Often times, the coil springs go bad and you would think to replace the whole thing, but the dealer will sell them to you for around $2 each. Also, the brake lights tend to work intermittently and tends to blow brake bulbs a lot. If you have this problem, simply get led brake bulbs and adjust the metal contacts within the brake light housing so they actually touch the bulb contacts. Hope this saves someone some time and money.

Found me some honest mechanics last year. I knew by the way they allowed me to watch and the way they troubleshooted my issue that they could be trusted. But I heard the mechanic mention to me afterwards that he was concerned about the misfire in #1. I blew him off but kept his observations in mind. Went home and Googled it. Ended up replacing the spark plugs and ignition coils, cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body. I also took off the intake box and the complete intake assembly and took it inside to clean it in the sink. Inside and out. Waited an hour and reinstalled everything with a new filter. No more misfire. I probably spent a $100.
