4 Shoot Through Umbrella Tips: Take and Make Great Photography with Gavin Hoey

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

/ adoramatv
Shoot through or translucent umbrellas can be cheap, quick to set up and ultra portable light modifiers. Compared to just the basic flash, an umbrella can radically alter and dramatically improve your lighting and in this video photographer Gavin Hoey shows you exactly how it's done.
Starting with a simple lighting set-up that would work great for moving subjects (such as pet photography or fast moving kids) Gavin refines the position and power of his single umbrella and speedlight to get control over the light on his model and the background in his small home studio. In total Gavin shares four different looks that you can easily achieve using just one flash and a single shoot though umbrella.

    Awesome video! Im happy you shared this as I find myself using shoot through and reflective umbrellas more than softboxes - maybe its the simplicity of setup and less space and weight and also the look they give that I like - I wasnt aware of that cropped version umbrella it would indeed be useful to get higher on low ceilings ill see how much of a dent in wallet it will be to get one shipped from usa!

    Loved this video, and Gavin, just a phenomenal presenter. Even it is a video regarding shoot through umbrella, I dare to ask a reflective umbrella question. How much, if any, will that S-type bracket cause shadow / less light coming out of a reflective umbrella compared to having the speedlight directly on an umbrella adapter.

  • @GavinHoey

    @GavinHoey

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Frank. 200 ISO is the native ISO for Olympus cameras. As a bonus it also cuts the power required from the flash by half compared to 100 ISO. So in a very small way I'm saving the planet one flash at a time 😉
