I'm a third degree ITF black belt aged 59yrs, it's generally accepted that jumping high after 50 years old is sadly just another thing that has to be let go.

Happily, by that time one has a wide enough range of technique for high jumps to be a last resort... even in katas. I am turning 55 and even completing Kanku Dai with a bunny hop height jump is a personal victory. LOL!

Uh.. I can't jump high. I feeling Wired what wrong with my body looks like scared and my legs scared mean (I hated too high up and down too far away.) Don't know why.

Have you tryed closing your eyes while jumping? I know, not very recomended, but you can open them mid-air. This way your body won't be able to give in to fear. Good luck ^^

how many jumping moves does karate actually have in their kata? I'm curious. I always thought karate was 100% grounded

Once karate migrated to Japan and got into the universities, young students requested some athletic movements be added to it. Hence, to keep and bring in students, jumps and kicks were added in certain places.

In shotokan karate you have 6 Katas with jumps 1- heian godan 2 - kanku dai 3 - Empi 4 - Kanku sho 5 - Gankaku 6 - Unsu
