Thought I would do the 4 reasons i think are worst about daily driving a cammed car. Have to say it was hard to even say 4 because i enjoy it so much.

    So, solutions to these issues... Reason 1: Keep the car off, it's quiet. No cops. Reason 2: Keep the car off, you save gas. Reason 3: Keep the car off, no power to get used to. Reason 4: Drive a Prius. All seriousness, I drive a stage 3 cammed 5th gen and love every reason. I didn't get it cammed in hopes to get more than 16-20mpg combined.

    Go to the store to buy the oil and filter, jack my shit up, going under the car, pulling out some tools to swap everything, then clean up because it's not really possible to get the filter out without dripping atleast some oil on the driveway, then button everything up and pour the used oil into the old container and take it to the store to dispose of it. Yeah I'd rather pay the 20-30$ difference of someone else doing it and me checking the level after to make sure I'm happy with it.

    Your blaming some things on the cam when your tune should definitely be better dialed in. There are a multitude of factors that any competent tuner can dial in better for you. To me a couple of issues that need to be addressed by symptom I.e injection timing dialed in, spark needs revamping, idle under over to get the chop a little more refined.also dialing in your vve will help alot with transient fueling.

    A cammed automatic muscle car. Yuck. Fuel cost has never been an issue for me but I can Totally relate with the car becoming lurchy at low rpm. It's annoying. When cruising slow by a park or want to keep the car quiet at night or through a parking lot and you want to be in 2nd or 3rd gear or when your T56 had fucking skip shift an you go from 1st to 4th you can't because the car jumps all over hell an wants to die. Anthony Vese people that worry about gearing need to build up what's underneath the hood. I don't worry about transmission ratios or rear gears. My mild 496 makes 600 foot pound of torque and the flywheel. So not much gear needed. 😅😅😅

  • @davelowets

    @davelowets

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@musclebone7875 No. People should start being concerned about gearing when they get their car tubbed and start putting tall tires on it. For an automatic, a higher stall converter is what needs to be looked at when cams start getting large. If it's a manual, then a performance clutch is the answer. Gearing is to compensate for tire size.

    cams dont make your engine "louder" just sounds different because of lobe separation and duration being modified. bigger cams tend to draw more vacuum so idle struggles. still draws a lot of attention though since your car sounds like its misfiring at idle but no not louder.

  • @davelowets

    @davelowets

    The fuck they don't.... A big cam allows much more airflow, which WILL equate to more noise out the exhaust. Also, a big cam does NOT "draw more vacuum". They cause the engine to draw LESS vacuum because of more valve overlap. Stick to dispensing advice about a subject you're actually knowledgeable about.

  • @Frantissimo

    @Frantissimo

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@davelowets it's actually more airflow at the wrong timing events hence why cars sound like they are struggling when idling with a cam. I've always considered performance cams as a hidden turbo because more airflow happens at the later rpm (when the cam reuses exhaust gases to if it's new fuel this is where they get their airflow from) I do see where you're coming about a bigger sound coming from more airflow but I don't see it unless it's a huge lift and such a long duration of a cam that you'd even have to raise your idle level to over the 1k mark to even keep it running but you don't see those in everyday driving cuz they require so much stuff around it that's not practical for everyday driving

At low speeds it jumps big time and it's definitely different and it's rhe same with it hating low speeds of below like 40 like you said and i hate low speeds and i wanna just do like 50 mph just because of it. All in all it's a great car but that stuff does get annoying and you aren't lying about the attention it gets,as a matter of fact i just had 2 guys in a truck back up a red light and asked me to hit the gas just a little so i did and they started cracking up and said,DAYUM she's mean and sounds good. Yeah I'd rather pay the 20-30$ difference of someone else doing it and then check over the oil level and be on my way. The people talking about "do your own oil changes" are silly.

    These are older posts I see so....the thing that's making it jerk around would be just tuning the car. Other than that you'd have to get used to driving differently otherwise you shouldn't be experiencing that. Very high lift cams are not streetable. They're ment for high rpm launches...and if your worried about gas mileage you may love to own a hot Vette but you'll never be able to afford one with that kind of thinking. Happy cruising!
