4 Must-Have Items to Make your Camper Van Wet Bath Experience Great | RV Lifestyle

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Now that I've worked out the best way to shower in my van I prefer it over using campground facilities which can be crowded and a complete unknown.

🔴 More about this video
I haven't found any good videos on KZread that talk about the wet bath in a class B. I want to show people that it can be an enjoyable experience if you have the right accoutrements. In this case you need 4 items: a set of good quick dry towels, a bamboo bath mat, a low gallon per minute shower head with an easy on/off switch and a small portable heater. With those things you can create a pretty nice wet bath shower experience. It doesn't hurt to also have an instant hot water heater.
The biggest hurdle people have to get over is the thought of the wet bath itself: showering in the same area with your toilet. But, this doesn't have to be a big deal. My bathroom is already really clean and part of the reason why is because I do take showers in my wet bath and that keeps things clean when I wipe it down to dry it. I've found that sitting on the toilet to shower is also a nice experience and with lots of hot water and my portable heater blowing warm air in shutting off the water between rinses doesn't mean I'm sitting in the cold.

    You are so right about the microfiber towels. I bought one for my dog, and loved its compact storage size, no bulk. Bought one for my car, and also 2 for the RV. Very good point about the wooden bathmats! All Euro RVs have them - see Hymer RV. They make them on CNC machines from one piece of wood, for an exact fit to shower pan dimensions with nice designs cut out. IKEA has a $2 squeegee to wipe down walls of bulk water. You have a lovely RV, thanks for the shower info!

    Get yourself a squeegee and push that water into the drain. Why have standing water, just a potential mildew problem.

  • @Ultramobility

    @Ultramobility

    5 жыл бұрын

    you can certainly do that. I find that my water does drain out as I drive and the puddle swishes around. it's just easier with a mat plus the bathroom floor doesn't get dirty from shoes, etc. when the shower isn't being used.

  • @douglastoney2843

    Your solution of "swish clean" works well in a Class B that is on the go and moves regularly. We squeegee because we are stationary for a week or two at a time. There is no "right" method, just the method that works for each RVer's style.@@Ultramobility

    Great tips! ❤ To avoid big soaking wet towels start drying with a small hand size towel and work your way up in size. I did something similar with my 'diy turban'.. I cut off the sleeve of an unused long-sleeve cotton Tee shirt. Sew the wide shoulder edge (not cuff). After shampoo, I condition my hair with a gazillion products, and wraps my super-curly hair for 10-20 minutes in my 'diy turban' - usually while trimming fingernails, plucking chin hairs, removing moustache with Nair facial creme (I'm a hairy lady) or checking email.

    Thank you for this information! I've also noticed that the wooden bath mats actually come with a few of the better RV's. As for the puddle, I assume it goes down the drain as you drive, BUT you didn't mention that, when wiping down the walls, you should also check the drain for hair clogs. Nothing worse than taking that nice warm shower, only to find all the water going out onto the RV floor.

I have another suggestion that you may want to try as well. After thoroughly cleaning my wet bath I sprayed the enclosure with the same silica sealant that I use on the outside of my truck camper which greatly reduces water on the walls that would need to be dried off because it repels. That sink was the main reason I traded out of my WGO ERA 70a an into my Travato 59k which has the fold up sink (out of the way!) Also I now have twice the floor area to stand in. That ERA side bathroom was tiny!!!!!!! I know some folks didn’t like the rear bathroom (I think you didn’t particularly like the 59k layout). But to each his own and a large bathroom area for shower was high on my list. I also like the rest of the k model. (Thumbs up)! Also my curtain drapes around and over toilet so there is almost no wet area needing wiping after. My tip is I actually remove the wood mat during shower. Then replace it after. My pan drains well and drys quite fast after. You didn’t mention using an exhaust fan (maybe you don’t have one?) anyway I always run my fan during shower and for an hour or less after (helps dry everything) including my damp towel that I hang across the entrance to bath. All in all thanks for sharing your video, few people have done vids related to wet baths.

    hi there mike - no i really liked the 59k. i really like the rear bathroom. i think the 59k layout is gives you the best of all worlds: wide open layout, twin beds, large bath and pass thru storage. the only negative i had on it was the front work station. i felt that could have been better thought out which they have done with the new Boldt. You should really enjoy your 59k! congrats!

    THE NEW BOLDT IS BAD DESIGN Unfortunately, Winnebago took the positive design aspects of the Travato 59K and made them worse! Not only did they add a hefty 1ft 8in to the original 21ft chassis, but they incomprehensibly moved the 2 twin-beds appart to make it nearly impossible to make a normal double-bed. Were the designers on drugs when they created this "new" layout? Even the new front lounge could have been done more simply with a round swivel table in the middle, like Pleasure Way has done with the Lexor. All in all, the new Winnebago Boldt looks like Picasso's "Guernica" painting after the town was bombed...

    This is a great video and somewhat sad at the same time. Until your video, I have been hard pressed to see such a comprehensive video explaining how to effectively use a wet bath in a Class B RV. Water and space constraints mandate rethinking bathing compared to what all of us do at home. This should be included in every RV delivery package @4:32 It never came to my mind to do this. That truly is a welcome luxury. You my friend are not planning to accept half-measures while RVing. Maybe PleasureWay can add this module to their Alde system in 2020? 'Alde Heated Towel Rail' - uses the existing heating circuit, reduces moisture, and keeps your towels warm/ fresh.

    One suggestion is to use a squeegee to get the water to the drain. I use one in my glass door shower at home and it keeps it clean. Regarding towels, personally, I do not like the feel of microfiber. I use the cloths to dust, but do not find them to be absorbent to use for wet cleaning. I am a 100% cotton girl...clothing, towels, sheets, cleaning cloths, etc. Do you have a recommendation on how to dry a cotton towel in an RV? At home, mine dry overnight while hanging on my towel rod. I'm thinking there might be a way to hang one during the day inside the coach. I read the comment about starting with a hand towel and will try that at home to see how it works. Please send any suggestions! Thanks for the videos and the links. I concur with the squeegee statement. It will help dry the walls and floor, limiting the amount of water your towel will need to absorb. This makes the dry time of the towel very quick. If I remember correctly, the camper also had a drain in the main aisleway floor for any splashing that may occur. Maybe that will narrow the list of makers. As a tall, and wide-bodied guy myself, I fully understand where you are coming from. You can also clean and disinfect your wet bath by using a spray bottle filled with 50/50 vinegar and water. It prevents any mold or mildew from growing, and once it dries, you can't smell it. From what I can see in this video, I'll be using the exterior shower if I want to take a shower. Either that, or decide to go with a B+, C, or even where my search started, with a Class A. The head on my sailboat is almost double the size of your bath stall, and I can count the number of times I've used it, on one hand, in the 12 years that I've owned her. I've found showering in the cockpit to be far more practical, as well as comfortable. Especially as a fairly tall, broad shouldered, person. Even though I've shrunken a few inches in the last 10 years, I don't think I'll get to the point where that stall will ever be comfortable.

    you have to sit in the ascent. the sink is in the way. some coaches have more room like the lexor and the travato 59kl. they both have enough room to stand up if you like. the tradeoff is that that you pay for the extra space in some way. in both cases of the travato and the lexor the rig is longer by 1.5 feet. you would have to determine that being able to stand is more important than say maneuverability and parking ease.

I heard that they are exploring a new Truma heater as a potential replacement to their current furnace but I have not heard of any thing else they may be working on like flexible solar panels, high efficiency ac to run off batteries or potentially the watt unit as a replacement for the generator. Also it would be helpful if you could provide some perspective on when they typically implement the upgrades as well as start building on new model year chassis like the 2020 promaster. As always thanks for the excellent perspective.

  • @Ultramobility

    @Ultramobility

    5 жыл бұрын

    I'll try to find out more but I can tell you some things: they will not likely move to flexible panels on all their models. they are trying them out on their new Tofino model but the jury is out on long term durability of flexible panels. water/heat can build under the panel since there is no gap between them and the roof of the van and we need to see how that affects things. they won't be moving to anything like the watt system any time soon. that is also unproven technology. they won't likely be moving to larger battery banks that can power the a/c any time soon. not sure about the new rooftop ac units like pro air and the new coleman quiet rooftop a/c. will have to check. they are already building on the new mb 2019 chassis. should see those hitting dealer lots by end of april or so. changes for this year were already announced by them and include: new deep sink, new galley faucet, new interior décor, new paneling in the bathrooms, bose sound bar, new lg smart tv, new fiamma awning, new lagun table system. 2020 model year changes will be announced in the fall I believe or maybe winter.

    @@Ultramobility Hey Neil... not to continue the off topic thread... uhhhhhh ..but to continue the off-topic thread; I'd have to disagree that watt is an "unproven technology". The first concept for a fuel cell is well over one hundred years old - yes I spelled that out on purpose, so nobody thought it was a typo. What watt has done, it appears, is help it work effectively with less pure gasses. I, for one, want to see this take hold, as it is a perfect use case for this technology. I desperately want this to become mainstream before I purchase my RV in just a few years ,as I will always be concerned about the noise of my generator - I hate to irritate others. Given that RoadTrek is now out, I would think another progressive manufacturer like Pleasure Way should be open to WATT's products and research - I understand that WATT were looking to deliver an 1100W unit - which would start to be seriously meaningful in potentially replacing a generator (and no, IMHO the wimpy 500w unit RoadTrek was using wouldn't really be valuable in my opinion.)

I think winnebago needs to think carefully where it is playing: premium or affordable. very few companies are able to play in both successfully and the boldt seems to be a product that is stuck in both worlds. the benefit that airstream has is that they don't pretend to be inexpensive. but that also gives they the freedom to have a higher fit and finish and quality of materials and then charge for them. same with pleaure-way. those companies are not setup to make inexpensive models but their whole production technique is set up to create premium products. just my 2 cents.

    agree on the 4 season comment. the rvia needs to define that across the industry with ratings. does it mean -10 below freezing? -30? what about tank dumping. I've lived in Quebec so without some kind of warmers on the valves they are going to freeze even with tank warmers on. it's a shame that no one is really thinking about the customer experience in all this. it's like it's all just marketing hype. what are the practical realities of rving in cold weather?

    How many gallons of water do you typically need for each shower?

    A Military Shower is the best way to save WATER! Here is how; 1. Fill the Sink. 2. Put a Rubber Stopper over the Floor Drain, to keep the water inside the Floor Pan. 3. Sit on the Toilet and use a Wash Cloth, to put water over you head and drain over your body. 4. Now repeat, using Soap/Water. 5. Wash yourself, standing where necessary. 6. Reuse the water that has accumulated in the Shower Pan to finish the job, remove Stopper to drain. 7. Stand up and use a small cup to pour the water in the sink over your body to rise. Finish rising using the Shower Head. I think we can Shower using around 1 Gallon of Water. Note, you don't have to drain the Water in the Shower Pan, save it for the next guy initial Wet Down.

    The wooden mat looks nice as well, and ads a nit of warmth to the decor.

    it's true. I like the look of it especially in my bathroom which is all white and a bit... sterile. the bathrooms in the new model pleasureways have wood paneling in them that match the rest of the coach and tend to look less sterile. in any case, you can't go wrong with a bamboo mat!

    ok ok ... mea culpa. I initially thought: "Really?!? a 'How to take a shower' video? How desperate for content can Neil be!? " Annnnd I was wrong. A nice video - clearly shows the experience - shows how a wet bath doesn't need to be a horrible experience, and crisply gives a few tips to help it be that much more pleasurable. Thanks!
