4 Months After FAI Surgery Update

I got FAI surgery for a hip impingement and labral tear in June. Once we started squatting again in physical therapy I experienced the exact same pain as before surgery.

I'm about to go through this same process here soon. My goal is to be fully functional after the surgery as soon as I can. I am a huge advocate of lifting weights and just being active. Although these videos help with my mental preparation for after surgery, your complications worry me a lot. I understand everybody is different so hopefully I have a different response. I know when my doctor did both hip evaluations for hip labrum tears they both popped. My right hip is the only one with the bone spur. I can tell your through some struggles with this, however, you seem to be positive on camera and I hope you're trying to be just as positive off camera.

I’m so glad I just found this video. I’m also feeling discouraged . Been tearful on and off today . My surgery was only 2 weeks and 2 days ago but I’ve been doing so well. But yesterday and today I started feeling the same groin pain I had prior to surgery. Not all the time but some times and idk if it’s from PT or what. I also tested my hip to see if it still does the popping thing it did prior to surgery when my hip is flexed like knee to chest and it did. I’ll be so sad if that doesn’t eventually go away. Ugh I feel for u because I know it sucks . I’ve been dealing with the pain 2 .5 years until they figured it was a torn labrum . Everytime I get discouraged I try to say a few positive things I’m grateful for to try and change my mindset . Wishing you the best of luck.

If nothing else has worked for 4-5 years I think you should definitely try surgery! It does work for a lot of people but I think i might have something else wrong or I’m just taking awhile to heal. Just make sure to get multiple opinions from doctors before you do it.

@@umit777. I actually avoided surgery completely. I’m about 95% pain free and rarely have flare ups. Main things that helped me were walking 7K-10K steps a day, stretching and foam rolling adductors/glutes/quads, and sticking to mostly machine exercises when lifting weights. I found most of my pain was caused by excessive sitting, chronically tight muscles, and barbell squats/deadlifts.

Ive had a total hip replacement 5 years ago and within the first 4 months I ended up dislocating 4 tines within a 2 month peroid. I had a revised hip surgery. Its been 4 years since I had that done. I'm still having pain on the left side. I am now looking at an anthroscopy procedure for my right hip labrum tear ans cyst. I found DSMO Is an amazing medication. I also use Diclofenac sodium topical. Helpe with pain.

Thank you for sharing. I have had two hip scope surgeries on my left hip. The first one they got in there and said it was worse than they thought so they scraped some bone and did labral repair. They didn't get all the bone off the femur they wanted so this time around they got the rest of it they wanted to and it's been 2 and half weeks I already feel a lot better than I did for the most part, just the surgery pain is all I have left to recover from. I hope that you feel better soon! I was really frustrated by how long it's taken me to get feeling better, might need to have surgery on my other hip and shoulders at some point here.

I had this surgery five months ago… about a month ago I was squatting and heard a pop then the hip repeatedly clicked and has clicked since (the clicking had gone away right after surgery). All of my presurgery pain is back (dull toothache type pain), which I hadn’t felt since presurgery. The doctor said I either popped a stitch from the hip capsule or possibly an anchor. I really don’t want to have another surgery. Im just curious if your toothache type pain from squatting is still there or if it went away?

Hey girl, I just had this surgery a little over a month ago. My pain is horrible! I haven't been ale to progress that far in PT because of it. For some reason sitting is so darn painful. Over the last couple days it's just gotten worse and worse. Do you want the second hip done still? I really wish I could get it over with already. I was originally being told they'd be 3 months apart but because my recovery is so slow they don't think it's going to happen soon. I am so frustrated by it. Can't sleep at all.

Ugh I am 3 months post op, and having a huuuuge problem getting my range of motion back 😢 every KZread video, or internet story I read all sayyy their range of motion is pretty much back to normal. I can barely do a butterfly stretch or form a form with my leg (bringing surgery side legs foot to opposite side legs knee to form 4 I know u know but just gotta clarify 😂) but damn. I was hoping the still in pain (no offense! Not wishing u pain, but hoped itd bring peace of mind in seeing its normal) to my problem. But it seems to be difference. If u can recall what did 3 month flexibility look like for you and could you do the stretches I mentioned above? I know we don’t all heal the same. Taking it with a grain of salt but deff just want the honest feedback 🙏 thank you thank you thank you for the video

@@Cammy71480 yeah, I was a stomach sleeper too but it’s too uncomfortable for me now. You may have been like me and were hyper-flexible. I could do the butterfly stretch and have my thighs touch the floor and rest my forehead on the floor too. My surgeon was honest and told me I may not be as flexible as I am used to. Stretching helps but I would find myself irritating my hip often when I would. The Stretch Zone crew are trained to properly stretch people with injuries. Haha I swear I’m not sponsored by them! But the stretches they do, there’s no way in hell we can do those on our own. I started when I was 3.5 months post op when my surgeon cleared me for all movements. My walking gait improved and the tightness in my hip was there but Minimized after a stretch session. They are pricey though, the only down fall.

@@samanthas4370 yesss this is so good to hear. I was pretty flexible before surgery as well! I was told about my range of motion either not being as good post surgery or it taking a very long time to become what it used to be. Yesss I will have to look into them, cause honestly I dislike stretching, and then now exactly… every time I would go to stretch I would irritate my hip and that never was the case before. That’s how far I am! Well 4 months post op on the 7! So that is perfect. It’s definitely worth looking into, and I can def see how pricey and maybe at least do a month or few sessions 🙏 it’s sooo worth it ive realized to pay for the things needed to improve any problems with the body.
