@Revv Amps Hello...fellow Winnipegger here. Does the REVV G3 have a "preference" for which amp it likes to work with? I have your REVV G3 pedal going into a Marshall DSL20HR, connected to a 2x12 cab loaded with Celestion 70/80 speakers and it doesn't sound that great. Next week I'm getting a Peavey 6505 going into two 1x12 cabs, each loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. In short: does the REVV G3 work better with a "British Metal" type amp or an "American Metal" type amp? Honestly...the REVV G3 is a work of art and I'm so effin happy that a company from my home town is making great amps and pedals that are world-class, but I'm having a really hard time "loving" my G3, even though I really want to. Any advice would be most welcome. Cheers.

To me, the Deizel sounds the most amp-like, a lot of depth and very open sounding, but retains the super heavy sounds like the original amp. The Friedman is the classic SIR Studio's mythical amp number 36(or 39?) that everybody used for recording in the 80's. The Suhr RIOT sounds ok, and was great for it's time but comparatively sounds outmatched here, almost a one trick pony but it does a pretty cool trick. The Revv has an interesting gain structure, but sounds too dark and compressed, almost nasally compared to the rest at least to my ears.

Great shoot out. Each pedal definitely had it's own characteristics and each shined or disappointed in each category. For instance the Suhr didn't have the growling aggression of the others, but it had a great lead tone. I thought the Revv was just the opposite. The Diezel did what Diezel does and it's a character unto itself. Some swear by it and others don't care for it. The Friedman is likewise as it is what it is. I personally can't stand Friedman amps or pedals. Others swear they're the greatest. To me overall, I would say in order of best to worst all categories combined, it would be 1. Diezel, 2a Suhr, 2b Revv, 4. Friedman. Since tone is subjective and also depends on the media this is played through, I'm sure many may disagree. And that's just fine. Whatever inspires the individual is the best for them.

Cool Demo as always !!!! i have the Standard Riot ( one of the first in Italy ) and also the BEOD. In my opinion the friedman is way better and way more teawkable... i can get superior sounds with all amps, at home i put it in a '78 Fender Princeton and i can play dream theater if i want. Other pedals don't sound so good in every situation, the Riot for example has an annoying top end with fender amps ( deluxes, super, twins etc..), with the beod you just turn off the presence and you're ok. Another very nice one that i have is ETHOS TWE1. give it a try!! ciaooo

I've been interested in the VH4 pedal for a while. It's just a bit expensive. Do you think it would be a cool pedal into my 1993 AC30TB/6? I have a whiteface rat as my main distortion right now, and I really like it as a grindy overdrive, but I would like something more over the top for rhythm chords. The deep and presence controls were interesting to me since I often find that distortions can have too much bass going into the Vox.

I had the Friedman and Diesel and the I passed on the Suhr after getting them I still have the REV on my short list. I sold them all after getting all 3 of Lawrence Petross Designs LPD 68. 74 and 87. The LPD still have the balz the others do but there is do much detail in their sound they make the others sound muddy in comparison! Check them out for yourself!
GAS'n big time. Off to the Revv site now...

It can even make muddy neck pickups sound tight. Love it.
I have the BE-OD just cause I'm a huge AIC fan, but I don't think you could go wrong with any of these. A lot of bite and punch in the Revv G3, sick mids and gain/grit on the Riot, and the Diezel might be the most versatile where you can really dial it in the way you want.

I have the Diesel/Friedman Small Box/Sinvertek Ti.. all very inspiring. That is what really counts. Got my eye on a BE OD Deluxe
Friedman it sound like tube amp...so great....
Hard to believe the tone from those pedals. I dare say they are more like preamps or amps in a box than pedals IMO. Revv has just killed it with the purple pills!

Michael Fryzel I think it beats their head in person honestly.
Friedman BE-OD for the WIN.
Revv G3 is no doubt awesome. The G4 on the other hand is ridiculously badass for even higher gain. The G2 is a fantastic cruncher. Revv puts out some exceptional products imho. Thanks for the playaround. Am now highly considering the Brown Eye as well.

Try a Joyo Uzi You won’t be disappointed. Seriously. I also have the Dark Flame for it supposedly sounding like a G3 but haven’t compared back to back
Revv all day, modern sound, the others are classic sounding. Revv very versatile.
Damn, the G3 wins another comparison!
I've had all these EXCEPT the VH-4- ALL ARE GREAT. The Revv G3 just has a ton of articulation and range!

From this video I have come to the following opinions. I am surprised that the Diezel did not have the wow factor that we hear about. I also think that if you have the Friedman and the REVV then you have a broad tonal spectrum that sounds really good. The Suhr sounds really good for a great lead tone.

@@jtbranman just picked one up and run it through my Orange Pedal Baby and I'm honestly shocked how good it sounds. I have multiple tube amps and a Kemper. The Diezel pedal is addicting to play. I can blast it in my basement through a 4x12 though.
The Diezel sounded way better than all of us pedals
The Friedman seems to have the widest frequency range, the Diezel seems to maybe need an overdrive in front to be less muddy on the chugs

The revv is the best for my ears. Number 2 would be the Friedman but sounds too harsh for me

Have the Diezel the one with one footswitch, the Suhr riot both versions the be and be deluxe. Sold the rev purple and red. I’m the pedal addict I had said above so I have spent way too much $$$. In pedal recovery right now.

What's your favourite between the Diezel and BE?
Friedman have the best Sound like the 80tes....you can hear all the strings... And the Friedman deluxe.are also better.. so ..I would decided to buy the Friedman...you have more variation....and can do all with this.. great pedal.. I have the Bogner Extasy Red... and know I go for the Friedman deluxe...pedal...
Another very nice one that i have is ETHOS TWE1. give it a try!! ciaooo
REVV G3 totally kicks ass!!!
Hi Michael Nielsen! Simon here from Sweden, awesome video and playing!.... but you always play great! but i have a request if you could make a video/demo on the Friedman BE-OD Deluxe pedal through some various power amps with tubes, el34, 6l6, 6v6, kt88 bla bla.... I have a Marshall Silver jubelee, fender deluxe reverb, vox ac 15 and other boutique amps in my studio but friedman stuff seems to be hard ro get the hands on in sweden in this covid 19 times. so i would appreciate if you could make a video of it best regards form Simon, Sweden

Riot has that brown sound and its really good for live situations.
The Friedman had the most clarity for me.....almost a 3D type depth
riot for me.
be-od + ge7 = all the toanz
I've been interested in the VH4 pedal for a while. It's just a bit expensive. Do you think it would be a cool pedal into my 1993 AC30TB/6? I have a whiteface rat as my main distortion right now, and I really like it as a grindy overdrive, but I would like something more over the top for rhythm chords. The deep and presence controls were interesting to me since I often find that distortions can have too much bass going into the Vox.
REVV G 3 All the way!!! Friedman would be 2nd choice for sure.
The Friedman FTW. Hands down. Across the board.
These are all great pedals, but the only one I own is the BE-OD. It sounds amazingly amp-like and you can dial back the gain with an internal trim-pot if necessary.
@theblindsniper

Use 18V instead of 9V and you've got tons of headroom that's very amp-like. If I didn't own that, I'd probably consider the Revv pedal. Sounds great!
Friedman's brighter and personally I think it covers more frecuencies than the other 3
I think the Suhr is out of its element in the high gain category compared to these other pedal. What I like about the Suhr besides it’s great tone is that it isn’t as harsh in the high end as other distortion pedals. If it had a 3 band eq I think it would blow all these pedals away.

There is the Suhr Eclipse (which I haven't tried yet). It's probably more in line with the others for high-gain. It has a 3 band.
What amp or set up are you going into? BE-OD pretty killer pedal! They're all great sounding... REVVV has some versatility it seemed.. great sounds in there! The Diezel... enough knobs on that thing?!? Ok... two channels and sounds great! But... for a simple 3 knob pedal, you got to give it to Suhr for a great sound... that lead was so clear, yet warm and crunchy with some punch! My favorite of the four! Thanks... great demo! Was thinking about doing a similar thing with some "metal pedals" in my arsenal! 😎🎸🤘🐦

Did you adjust the trim pot on the be-od?
diezel is the best but you gotta try mxr 5150 od
Is it me or original (non reloaded) Riot sounds tighter and less compressed? Based on this video I vote for Revv, but would be nice to see regular Riot.
How do these compare to a DFZ triple box metal???
The vh4 2 sounds best with every knob at max.
he visto comparativas de los 3 suhr riot y definitivamente son muy similares así que decidi irme por el suhr riot mini me encanta
Hi there, thanks for the demo. Love your riff!! I am really considering a BE OD Deluxe or Revv G3 and I would really be interested in how these feel under the hands. Have all these except the Riot. In a stereo rig, the Vh4 by far the most massive sounding. BE-OD very close but warmer. G3 just sounds like a tiny practice amp no matter where I set it. Interesting that they all sound very similar to my vintage Turbo Rat. The vh4 is the only one that will clean up if you turn down your volume knob which I’m finding a big bonus in dirt pedals.
