    Great exercises! One question: In most of these exercises on chromaticism, the goal is to make sure that the chord tones land on the down beats. But more often than not, most of the jazz lines start on the up-beat (and-a), and in those cases in these patterns the chord tones don't land on the down beats. Ideally should we also have exercises with patterns starting on the up-beats?

    You can always add or leave out notes depending on which beat you start on. That or hang on a note for longer or play some as triplets. I like doing the latter.
