Thanks for the video ! I just had a 1st meeting with my 5 year old to talk about concern of ADHD and I asked her thoughts about food and ADHD and she said there are no studies relating both. Would you be able to send me links of some of these studies so I can forward to her? Do you know any doctor in New Jersey that would follow more "natural" way and that should be willing to see it in a holistic way? Thank you so much

I think some of the inflammation is coming from pesticide residue on grains and any food for that matter.

My son is salicylate intolerant. I'm curious if you have any experience with this?

  • @ADHDThriveInstitute

Hey Chelsea, so there is a reason a body can't have salicylates, it is not as simple as the body doesn't like them. It is usually a result of gut dysfunction. You need to get to the root of why the body can't handle them, target that and then slowly add the food back. I have helped many that were stuck on the feingold diet and couldn't get off because they didn't look at WHY the body wasn't handling the food. Send me a PM if you would like to chat further.

Can I please clarify the sugar comment. Are you saying honey is considered an added sugar so stick to the maximum of 3 teaspoons of that a day, or does that fall under the natural sugar with fruit?

Natural sugar, but you still need to look at the total sugar intake regardless. I have for approx 1 month been doing gluten free, low sugar diet for my daughter. We are taking some supplements and will be starting others in a few days. including spore Probiotics, methylation complete, Vit D, Omega 3, Buytrate, Collagen and L-Tyrosine. How long would one expect to see the difference?

Every child is different, however the detox period for gluten is usually about 2 -4 weeks but can continue to react inside someone's body for 3 - 6 months later. is the sugar same as carbs?

  • @ADHDThriveInstitute

Sugar is a source of carbohydrates, but it's very different than say eating a sweet potato as a source of carbohydrates as you're getting heaps of vitamins, minerals, fiber, some protein, etc as well. It's going to affect your blood sugar and the way you feel very differently. So we want to keep a watchful eye on sugar consumption for sure, but especially added sugars. So with something like fruit...that's naturally occuring sugar. Whereas something like soda or a candy bar has added processed sugar. Hopefully that helps!

Kids get soooo much sugar from the morning from fruityoghurt, processed juice and cereals! No wonder they are unstable.

Food absolutely impact how we think, feel, and behave... and it absolutely leads to so much dysregulation for our kiddos. You're spot on!

You really need to consult with a nutrition expert because the information you're providing is only just scratching the surface of treating ADHD, especially in more severe cases. You are right about grains...they need to be eliminated as well as artificial anything. But elimination only covers half the protocol. These kids will still crave those things and eventually cheat. The other half of the protocol needs to be a comprehensive list of what foods to replace the bad stuff with, ie., good fats - EV Olive oil, Omega 3s from fish, cod liver oil; protein from grass fed cows, chicken, etc; pasture raised chicken eggs, organic cheese; beneficial bacteria from sauerkraut, kefir, etc. There's so much more to improve a child's learning ability, but you'll need to do some research. I subscribe to Dr. Sten Ekberg, Dr. Eric Berg, Dr. Mark Hyman, just to name three. But you still need to do some discerning because no advice can be 100% reliable, especially today in such a complex world.

Absolutely, these are all things I teach the families I work with in my program. What to avoid, what to include in the diet, etc. We get to the root of the problem with functional lab testing as well so we can uncover where the underlying stressors and malfunctions are in the body. My thoughts while watching this too, unfortunately. Sounds like, unless we can grow all of our own food on a homestead, and try and get our highly picky eater to eat literally all the foods they wont eat and none of the 10 foods they do eat, then we are out of luck. I'm definitely out of luck on this one. My picky eater kid will starve himself to the point of shaking due to low sugar levels than eat all of the things mentioned as alternatives in this video. I've battled this so many times I've lost count.

I make everything with almond, tapioca, coconut and cassava flours. With the right mixture, you can't tell the difference. Natural candies and foods taste way better than artificial stuff. Cows milk (the makeup of it) is made for calves to grow very big like cows are supposed to. Not good for humans. Highly allergenic. My kids are like different people when they have these foods. They're awful lol We've been following this type of diet for years and we eat a lot of things.
