4 Coolest Supercar Concepts We Forgot About!
Get ready for a trip down memory lane as we look at some amazing cars that never made it to the streets. These hidden gems from the past show us how car makers dreamed big and tried new things.
First up is the Lamborghini Calà from 1995. This cool-looking car was meant to be a more affordable Lamborghini, but still packed a punch with its powerful V10 engine. It was light and fast, using fancy materials like carbon fiber. While you couldn't buy one, its ideas helped create the popular Lamborghini Gallardo later on.
Next, we've got the Volkswagen W12 Concept from 1997. Volkswagen wanted to prove they could make supercars too! They created a special W12 engine by putting two VR6 engines together. This car was so fast and tough that it set world records, driving over 4,800 miles in just 24 hours at an average speed of 200 mph!
The 1985 Peugeot Proxima looks like it came straight out of a sci-fi movie. It had a super strong body made of Kevlar and a big fin on the back with solar panels for the air conditioning. Inside, it was full of screens and computers, which was mind-blowing for the 1980s. Its powerful engine could push it to 216 mph!
Lastly, we have the 1976 Ferrari Rainbow. This unique car had a pointy shape that was way ahead of its time. Its coolest feature was the roof, which you could take off and store behind the seats. Under the hood, it had a strong V8 engine that made it super fun to drive.

Bertone used the Rainbow template for Fiat's X 1/9 and later, when Fiat dropped production support, it was exclusively by Bertone until end of life.

Shape-wise, the Cala looks like the inspiration for the T230 Toyota Celica. I must say that its bodywork captures the 'plasticky vibe' very well.

Screw Audi for scrapping the Cala, it would've been the most 90's Lamborghini ever

I got to sit in a VW Phaton. It had a perforated dash for the a/c. No a/c vents. That’s all that really stood out to me. It was so well made I almost forgot it was a VW. However, I didn’t know at the time that Volkswagen was a premium brand in Europe.

Rainbow reminds me of my Fiat X1/9, also designed by Bertone. One of my favourites.

Compliance with bumper height regs made the Rainbow look like the X1/9's big brother.

Good Human narration. I am so tired of poorly programmed AI TTS. Bravo! Good content too. 😎👍

Great video thanks for sharing. Watching this when the VW Nardo came up I was picturing a large group of supercar owners talking about their Ferraris, Lamborghinis, McLarens, Bugattis and the like and the lone fella talking about his VW 😂🤣😂 yeah it really doesn’t work even considering the car companies VW owns.
