4.7L Swapped Early V8 Vantage, with a Sports Exhaust By Satan - the Perfect Aston Martin?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This Aston Martin is a bit of a monster... it started life as a normal 4.3, but a mishap meant that it needed a replacement engine. Aston Martin don't stock the 4.3L, so in went a 4.7 - along with a lightened clutch, flywheel and a sportier exhaust setup.
With the softer suspension of an early car, but the firepower of a later car, could this be the ultimate Vantage?

I'm a simple man. I see V8 Vantage manual, I click like.
V8 Vantage is the finest looking Aston of it's era. Perfect proportions, more compact than a DB9. Stunning machine that has aged extremely well indeed- better looking than any contemporary Aston by a significant margin I feel. I'm SO tempted............Need to sell two classic cars i own in order to fund one though.

Beautiful car. Truly beautiful. It doesn't need stiff suspension on our roads and on a grand tourer it should have an auto box. It would still be more than swift

Aston dealers used to offer a few tweaks on the 4.3 models that upped power by about 20bhp and included a V12 back box which sounded just like this...

Not sure I quite agree on your sentiment regarding the 4.3 vs. the 4.7. The 4.3 is generally at its best when pushed, where as the 4.7 has quite a bit more grunt lower down the rev range. There were also earlier pre-facelift 4.7's with the later style dash, but the softer suspension setup - my dad's first V8 Vantage Roadster was one of these and much preferred the setup to his later V8 Vantage S.

Not a true AM fan yet this is a beatiful gt indeed: frankly I'm really fond of the roadster version sporting an unequalled sober elegance. I'd like to ask you AM enthusiasts a couple of questions: has "this" Vantage V8 series ever been powered by AMG engines ? Possibly the AM - AMG partnership got started in 2013/2014 but I might be wrong. Second point: are the 4.3/4.7 powerplants actually based on Jaguar mechanics instead ? Thanks for any info.
That was a Matra indeed. Also, the S2000 had one of the very first EPAS, eq why it lacks any feel what so ever.
Lovely final words 😂

V8 Vantages are best when viewed from a little distance away with someone else owning them and at the wheel. I drove mine because I thought I should, having bought it, not because it was enjoyable. Far to many compromises. Clutch, gears, ride, dashboard, light condensation etc etc. You named most of them.

I have an '06, and it's marvelous. Let the trans warm up before rowing it aggressively. I've gotten used to the narrow and late clutch engagement and can blip the throttle for multiple downshifts at will. I do think the brakes are a bit wooden, but I'm not out for blood anyway. It's a GT, not a race car.

Afterwards i did a lot of research on Bamford Rose and it seems i am one of many who felt they would not go near that place with a barge pole, there are some awful reviews about them.
I don't think I'd want to drive that noisy thing to the South of France … also it's a freak so if you ever want to sell it there's another problem! I'd have plumped for a 4.7 personally but each to his own I suppose! I'm currently in the market for a 4.7, maybe 2010-2014 … if anyone wants a 2014 340 bhp BMW Z4 - just 7500k miles - let me know especially if you're selling on an Aston there's a deal to be done!

interesting that the 'loud' switch had to be turned off, as if it were an annoyance. i completely understand... BTW, the absolutely unforgivable design flaw in these 4.3l cars is the egregiously unresponsive throttle pedal. inasmuch as it's a 'fly by wire' accelerator pedal, the relationship between your foot and it is entirely controlled by software and the butterfly's servo-motor. so setting it right should have been child's play. and yet, no. i swear they've built in a relationship that negates 80% of the first two inches of pedal travel. and to add insult to injury the reverse gear is so tall as to make it almost impossible to reverse the car uphill without unnecessarily burning the clutch.
@francobanzini665
4 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean about the throttle - hope to have that rectified by Bamford Rose. Backing out over the ramp in my garage involves some delicate footwork. Maybe Aston went the TVR route for traction control with the long pedal!
