And always check all your bearing for defects. Sometimes you can get a bad one. Chips or weld imperfections.

When i took out my old bearings out the engine they had a wiggle in them and seemed loose. Is this normal? Or should that mean they are worned out?

Hey Andrew been watching you for a long time but I have a question. The bearing set I ordered only came with a bottom thrust bearing and just a regular top main bearing? It has me confused is that okay? It came with 5 regular top main bearings and four regular bottom main bearings and just one bottom thrust bearing...

Great channel and great vids! There's so little Mod motor building vids out there but a ton of 4.6 motors (2 & 4V) that this will help a lot of people. Very underrated motors. Your car is a beast by the way, and you're a great driver! Just curious, have you read Sean Hyland's book?

Jim EC thank you very much. Sean Hyland book was the first thing I read before I put this engine together the first time, good book with a lot of great information.

Andrew Lavender I've got an 03 Mach I've owned since it was a year old. Also have a Teksid block and it's forged crank and a Vortech set up. I wanted to build a forged short block rather than hammer the #s matching, fragile Mach lower end, so this channel is greatly appreciated. Not sure if you're familiar with "TKO Resto"? (It's an SN-95 restoration KZread channel) but I'd think your two channels would compliment each other?

Jim EC sounds like it would be easy to toss some rods and piston into that Mach 1 and be set. Thanks for the info I’ll look into that channel and subscribe.

Andrew Lavender I was thinking about doing that, then my son gave me a complete 96 Cobra short block he was going to use in his Vortech'd 02 GT. It seems to be in really nice shape and I figured I could just build that then swap over so the car wouldn't be down for long? Plus, I just like the fact that my original Mach bottom end is unmolested even though I'll be using the heads (and everything else) from it. Not shooting for crazy power levels, just 500 or so rwhp will do me just fine in that car. I keep going back and forth with this plan anyway. Got a 10 Pum Crazy RT Challenger as well as a bunch of other non car projects. Typical too many projects, not enough time/money while working , blah blah. Anyway, looking forward to more of your vids. Hope your channel takes off!

Jim EC I agree much quicker to build that short block up and still be able to enjoy the car in the meantime. Thanks for all the support

Heres a question... Do all teksid blocks have that style of main caps? Didnt know if they had different variations like the romeo and windsor engines do. My guess is no.

  • @andrewlavender08

98snakehorse the newer teksid blocks have a smaller diameter main cap side bolt and no jack screws. That’s the only difference I can think of

The bearings with the oil delivery hole/slot go into the block. The ones with no oil delivery holes go into the caps.

Nice video do you let the studs sit for the day to let them stretch and retorque. I found some headstuds loose the next day on my first engine build and have always done it that way since.

My upper main thrust bearing was a bearing just like the rest of them but it just had spacer on the side but the lower bearing was the actual thrust bearing. What an I missing here. Is there a reason for both? So only the performance series come with 2 thrust style bearings.

  • @ucnhtmenow1

So I did a tiny research and the thrust bearing for the 5.4 and 4.6 iron block only have the thrust washer on the upper side and the bottom gets the actual thrust bearing. I guess maybe the shop didn't know this but I'm glad I realized this and will have the bearings for the aluminum 4.6 block. Don't know what the huge difference is but there has to be a reason right?

Andrew, I am rebuilding currently and my Clevite thrust bearing is not a one piece on the top side. Yours is one piece on top and bottom. Can you please let em know what bearing set you have? I have a 2v Romeo steel block. thanks

Eric Guess unfortunately you are stuck with the bearing set that you currently have. The teksid is the only block that you can do the one piece upper thrust
