In ‘73 I was 12 and went to sleep at night thinking of cars. Totally obsessed, read Motors Repair Manuals an drew pictures in my school books, mostly engines, tail lights, grills and stuff like that. My neighbor Jim, worked at Delco Morane in Dayton Ohio and was a Pontiac guy. His yard looked like a wrecking yard, cars on their sides, major parts missing, always yanking engines and stuffin them in somthing else, in short, my hero! He bought his wife a new Pontiac every year and it was usually somthing special. In ‘73 he bought her a Grand Am, black, 400, auto trans and EVERY available option. I figured it had the coolest bucket seats I had ever seen, nose was OK but man, that tail end was youglie with a capital u. How could Pontiac do that!?? Oddly, over the years it has grown on me and I admit I’ve searched Craigslist for one near me. Just maybe… Nice project man! Well worth the bucks and effort in my opinion. 👍

My very first new car was a 1973 Lemans 2 door, black on black. I put a set of slotted mags with white letter tires. When I look back at the pictures it was one of the best looking cars I ever owned. Sold it in 75 to pay for the new Custom van I ordered, ha.

My option sheet calls it a Rally Gauge set. It's funny that they jammed 3 things in to one little circle in the centre of the dash. Pretty sure I recall my Tach jumping around. I'll do some research on a possible fix. I'll upload a vid detailing my option list as soon as I get a chance.

I got to say, I'm glad I stumbled across your channel. You have a refreshing approach to chronicling your hobby. You've got my sub. As a side...I'm shockingly surprised at how well the 3rd Gen IROC wheels work with the car (and on many other Gm platforms). Not sure if you're going to keep them, or look for a rally II or honeycomb, but for now, as rolling stock the current wheels look good! Thanks for sharing

There will be a future upload of my latest parts-car that came with Rally 2's. I'm torn. I think those IROC rims were one of the best looking factory rims ever... especially when they're turning slow. I'll likely switch back and forth.

10 years ago isn't really that long ago to have a change of heart. I'm sure you paid a good bit more to get it back. Just isn't in the cards for you and this car if you let go of it 2 or 3 times. I was at a car show-swap meet in Maryland in the late '80's and this guy there that had either a '69 or '70 RA IV Judge and was lamenting to his buddy that his personalized tags for his GTO he had for like 10+ years (they had GOAT something or other) got snagged by someone else. He accidently let the registration lapse for one year and some 'punk kid' as he said, snagged his personalized plates. As he said 'The WORST part of it was he put them on some Fukin' POS '73!" They had a few brews. Back then ANYTHING over '71 nobody gave a second look. I've come across a few cars I've sold later on. And ones I've missed out the first time around, and missed a second time. You're lucky.

  • @ontariotube

I actually paid about the same to get it back, but it's (obviously) much worse for wear. But the engine had been rebuilt while it was gone, so that made it worth the deal. I also have a 60's car but really missed the surprisingly good handling of the '73 GTO. I'll be updating soon with my parts-car finds and getting this show on the road.

I have a car I bought in 1983 and still have. '71 GTX 6bbl (original, 48k miles) Haven't really driven it that much at all. Actually, the most fun I've had and the fondest memories were some of the 'regular' cars I drove and hot rodded, but mostly I had musclecars.

@@ontariotube That's cool! I'd like to check it out! My cars were all over the place in condition and appearance. Most of the nice one's like my GTX I didn't drive all that much. It's funny how the standards have changed over the years though, even my viewpoint The cars I drove years ago that I didn't think were all that great would be pretty nice now as they were. One of my favorite daily drivers was a Plymouth Satellite I put a 440 with Hemi 4 peed and 8 3/4 sure grip diff in. Got it just about done, just needed paint and drove around half primered the rest of the time I owned it. I had a lot of time invested in that car, more than I got out of it.
