Fog lights are not offered even as an option on SR trim level Toyota Tacomas, even though they come standard on all the others, so the only way you can get them is to install after market kits. MBAutoonline.com offers this very affordable kit (part # FL-TY090-AC3) with stock appearance that is simple to install. Any questions left in the comment section THAT AREN'T ALREADY ANSWERED IN THE VIDEO OR COMMENT SECTION will get an honest attempt at an answer. I'm just a customer and knew nothing about this company before buying the kit so I can't tell you any more about it than what you see, here. Much of this video was made in my garage at night so I know the production values are low, but watching in full screen mode by clicking the little box in the lower right of the vid may help. I didn't do all the work in one continuous session (got hungry, easily distracted) but I would estimate it added up to maybe 2 hours of work using under $100 worth of materials but there are many possible variations of this type of job. it's a good idea to look behind the factory caps of 2nd gen Tacos before buying a kit to make sure your own truck isn't already wired for fogs. if they are, all you need is the lights, bezels, and switch, (no light harness or switch wires) but it still may be worth buying the whole kit, anyway.
mbauto has the 3rd gen taco kit here www.amazon.com/dp/B01GSGIRNQ
and the 2nd gen taco kit is here www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...

    NOTE: these lights fit properly when the writing on the lamp lens that says "top" is upside down on the bottom, and the plug is facing upwards. it is the only way to fit it in the hole and be centered in the bezels. some people who can't contort their bodies the way I did in this video may have to unscrew the covers from inside the wheel wells to reach the lamp holes, or dismantle the dash to install the switch. not necessary for me. after installing the add-a-fuse, you have to decide yourself what to do about the inside fuse lid, and the lid can also be tricky to remove sometimes. the video could have been much longer but the one posted here was probably too long already. even though you saw me turn the fogs on as soon as they were installed, I still used a multi-meter just to make sure they were grounded properly.

    haven't used them recently as much as i thought i would, maybe because the fog is thicker in the cooler seasons here, but they still look and work the same. even if they aren't being used much these days, the truck looks better with the fogs in front instead of the caps.

    We get really thick fog here in the mornings. I posted a vid of an average morning but it gets much thicker than that. I also think it looks better having the lights in those spaces instead of the stock caps. It's not an expensive or complicated modification for anyone with a few hours to do the work. I put a note here in the comment section and some other info in the description. hopefully the vid makes the install easier and provides a little encouragement.

    i just decided at the last minute to record it as i was doing it, so the quality and lighting is bad, but glad it's still useful to people. it's an easier job than some make it out to be. as mentioned in the comments, running the wires through the bumper bar isn't a crucial step, either. i just thought the bar kept the wires more out of the way and protected. good luck with yours and hope it was a fun dad-son project.

    thanks for watching! not sure if they still work, but i posted links in the description for the 2nd and 3rd gen kits. i think 2nd gen has different bezels and know the dash blank is a softer rubber than the hard plastic in the 3rd gens. i initially bought another kit and had to return it because the switch was supposed to be inserted into a cut you are supposed to make in the blank, which is not possible in the 3rd gen blanks. in an sr5, pull the blank out and pull the front covers out just to make sure all the wiring isn't already installed. if you already have it, you just need the switch and lamps and bezels.

  • @CoelhoSports

    thanks! just pry the dash blank out with a flathead, but protect the edge of the dash around the blank slot so you don't mark the plastic when you pop the blank out. I already said in this comment section the word "top" printed on the lens should be at the bottom of the light upside down for it to fit in the middle of the bezel. like I say in the video @ 4:15, the light comes from inside, the compartment behind the space for the light, so the wing slides in the slot I showed with my pinky, and the top outside wing of the light screws from behind.

  • @CoelhoSports

    @CoelhoSports

    7 жыл бұрын

    sorry, but as I think about it, the screws for the outside wings (non-slot side) may go through the top AND bottom wings. remember, the lights come from the inside of the truck, not inserted from the front. you slide the wings into the slots toward the center of the truck, and then line the outside wings behind the tabs across from the slots on the other side of the light opening and screw them in place from behind. there is a screw/bolt hole on the relay for mounting but I don't remember getting around to hanging it. I think I just zip tied or twist tied everything somewhere on the driver's side. I realize I left out lots of little details but probably most viewers think the video is too long as it is.

  • @CoelhoSports

    they're the same as stock SR5 lamps. the Tacoma TRD Pro comes with (square) "rigid industry" LED lamps which might be a little brighter and definitely last longer. on the rigid industries website they have kit 46567 for $330 to give you the same stock fogs as the trd pro. some people buy this mb auto kit just for the harness, switch wires, and switch, then just plug in round LED lamps instead of the kit lamps. most other lamps can plug into this harness and the kit isn't too expensive to go that route. I know of someone who plugged Morimoto XB LED lamps into this MB Auto kit instead of the kit lamps. good LED lamps can cost twice as much as this kit. it's just preference, though. for me not worth the extra cost but others think it is.

  • @CoelhoSports

    @CoelhoSports

    3 жыл бұрын

    i installed mine under warranty and nobody said anything during my warranty service at the dealer. i guess it would depend on what warranty claim you were making and if whatever you did to the truck had any effect on the claim. generally warranties cover factory defects and failed factory parts, not aftermarket parts or alterations you make that cause problems. if you go to the dealer complaining about a problem, it better not be caused by something you installed or altered. for example, look at how many tacos have aftermarket lifts and tires, etc, that get warranty service all the time with no issues. if the lift or tires are causing the problem they might not want to fix what you did to it under warranty because problems from those mods are not toyota's problem.

    i had toyota care service done with them installed and nobody said anything so it definitely wouldn't cause an automatic denial of service. tacomas are some of the most heavily modded vehicles on the market, possibly second only to wranglers. i would imagine if a mod you installed caused a problem you could be responsible for it. in general, warranties only cover failed parts from the factory.

    heyhey. i mentioned in the pinned comment and in a few other responses here that the lamp needs to be installed with the word "top" that is printed on the lens upside down so "top" is on the bottom. that is the only way the lamp fits properly in the slots and is centered in the hole. did you do it that way? also, the L and R printed on the insides of the bezels are for the truck's left and right side, not your left and right as you're facing the front. otherwise, the bezels should click in easily.

    coelho sports ok thank you so much for the reply! And also you said to install the lights from the inside of the bumper right? Meaning do not screw them down from the front of the bumper?

    yup, slide the inside lamp wings into the inside slots then the outside lamp wings need to come from BEHIND the mounts and screw in from the back. that positions the lamp far enough back in the well for the bezel to fit in front of it. you know, i mentioned that in the vid and in the comment section but i forgot to mention that here. that could also be an issue with the bezels not fitting so thanks for mentioning it.

    Is this a "pre-wired" SR or no?

    i have no idea what you're talking about. fogs are not offered as an option on the 3rd gen SR. there is no such thing as a pre-wired 3rd gen SR, thus the video. good luck

    Thanks for posting this! Quick question - Will this add a circuit work? (linked below) from autozone. I want to pick up today & install tomorrow. www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/fuse-and-accessories/cooper-bussmann-fuse-and-accessories/32416_0_0 Also - I've been reading on TacomaWorld about other install methods (linked below) but they seem to be taking the whole steering column apart.... Which I don't want to do if I dont have too! Will your method bring up the fog lights on indicator on the dash when? www.tacomaworld.com/threads/nitoris-oem-sr-foglight-mod.451495/ Thx!

    i'm sorry but i didn't read through the thread on TW. i took a cursory look and it seems like that person figured out how to wire it so it can run off a higher trim light stalk the way the SR5 and up work from the factory. if so, that is a better setup in the end than my aftermarket type installation, albeit a pain in the ass to complete. my dash switch looks stock but if the setup you found avoids the add a fuse in the cabin and operates like factory, that is better. you don't have to run the wires through the bumper bar, like i did. you could just lay the harness along the bottom of the bumper to save time. i have seen people opening the wheel wells to get direct access to the back of the fog spaces but you can see in the vid i was able to reach down there from under the hood easily with my arms. i have seen people tear apart the dash installing the wires but i have NO IDEA why. you can see in the video where and how i ran the switch wires inside. just drop them through the switch hole in the dash and look underneath for the other end. duh. tearing your truck apart to install these kits is pointless. if someone else installed that add a circuit into their 3rd gen SR, i would trust them. i also bought mine from auto zone and it looked the same but it's hard to see the part number in the video. it shouldn't take more than an hour to do this mod, especially after already seeing someone else doing it. good luck.

    coelho sports No worries. I’m installing with your method and I’m 95% done. One problem I ran into right now is the add a fuse / add a circuit seems to be the wrong fit or wrong size for the Tacoma’s fuses. I purchased a box of 5 amp fuses which are size small but it appears the Tacoma’s have a micro small fuse. Does that sound correct or did I purchased the wrong add a fuse / add a circuit?

    i think the fuses are called "mini low profile". as i think about it, i might have also bought the wrong size fuse the first time i went into autozone. the add a circuit link you posted from autozone looked like the right one to me at first glance.

    dont run the harness through the CRASH BAR not bumper.

  • @CoelhoSports

    there isn't anything but the crash bar beneath the front fascia. that's the only bumper structure the truck has. it would have been easier to just run the harness along the bottom of the radiator but then any radiator or other issues would compromise the harness. yeah, if there is a crash the harness inside the bar could be compromised, but in a crash that bad the fogs would be my last concern, and they would probably be also wrecked at that point if they weren't in the crash bar because the radiator would be pouring boiling water and antifreeze everywhere and everything in front would need replacing and first thing anyone would do is disconnect the battery. definitely not mandatory to put it there but that's pretty obvious as I explain all over this page and in the vid there are many different wiring options.

    I found it easier to run it under the cover above the radiator. It's not interfering with anything and looks neat and OEM in a way. BUT everyone likes to do it their way so I guess it really doesn't matter.

    i'm not going to be towing anything more than a jetski a few miles, but I know they have 3-way coolers for tx, engine, and steering that don't look too complicated after you take off the grill and fascia. someone else will have to save the day on that one.
