3rd Gen 4Runners on Miller Jeep Trail
3G4Rsocal had a campout in September 2018, and we got to run through the iconic Miller Jeep Trail while we were there. It was my family's first time on the trail, and we had a blast! This edit has content that was contributed by all the guys in the group, including GoPros, a Mavic Pro drone, and cell phones. Enjoy!

Awesome video guys, i really want to get these generation 4runners, has such a classic look to it!
Looks like another fun trip.
4runners can do anything man. My friend swears by his Jeep but I’m always the one pulling him out of stuff and helping him fix whatever he breaks. I have a 99 limited and it’s still bone stock as I’m 18 and don’t have the money to mod yet. it can do way more than his rubicon can. I’ve yet to find something it can’t climb, obviously I’m not that experienced yet and haven’t done trails like this but it pushes through everything I’ve thrown at it so far. There’s this old abandoned monastery near where I live that got knocked down and the whole area is just hills and mud and once the Jeep guy got stuck in a fairly deep mud pit which I had to get through in order to get to a good solid spot to tow him from. I thought for sure I’d be calling my other friend with a winch to winch us both out but she pushed right through mud halfway up the doors and up the slope on the other side and pulled the Jeep out like nothing. I haven’t had any major damage from wheeling yet either, though I know that day will inevitably come no matter what truck I have. I will definitely have a Toyota as my off road vehicle for the rest of my life though, I can tell you that

You don't need much. Give it bigger thicker tires. Save more. Get a lift. Save some more... Body armor. Etc.. but it doesn't need many mods because it's off road capable bone stock.

Currently I'm down to 2 a 97Limited 325k and a 99 SR5 225k drive either anywhere tomorrow with zero worries. Both look great and run and drive better . And mine aren't mall crawling pavement princess's either lol. Best vehicles ever. I was a tech in shop we hated them and Tacos ya can't make any money as a tech changing oil and brake pads. Funny how majority of us at that shop drove Toyota 4x4's .

Nice vids. I would like to join you guys some day. My runner is not hooked up like your guys 4runners .
I've got a 99 4x4, 5spd.with LSD rearend and locking front diff. It works great for the road and has done well offroad, but I wonder how it would do with you guys. I'm planning on some Bilstein 6112's on the front and 5160's in the rear, because I tow on occasion. I really gave it heavy thought on a rear locker, but the LSD works great on pavement. Thank you guys! 👍

paint by geez I definitely recommend them for some cheap reliable fun. Get one with the rear elocker (or add one after you get it) along with a basic Bilstein lift and 33 MTs, and you can go most anywhere. If you invest a bit more time and money into it like we have, you’ll be outperforming your Jeep buddies and enjoy a better ride quality while you do it

I’m driving a 99’ 4wd Runner and I’m thinking about going to 33’s from 31’s, in your opinion do you think I’ll manage with 4.10’s, or would it be a better idea to regear to 4.56 or 4.88’s? Thanks a lot!
@Opt.Offroad
5 жыл бұрын
Evan Corey yeah you should be just fine on stock gears. I ran 33s with 4.10s for years and had no complaints. Ideally, 4.56 or 4.88 would feel the best especially for a truck used mainly for off-roading. But 4.10s will do just fine
@volcom137z
5 жыл бұрын
It might be a bit sluggish with stock gears on 33s. Possibly some extra strain as well. Its probably a dimishing return for the extra money you will put in. You can't go wrong with 265/75/r16s mud tires which is basically a 32. They will clear stock suspension but a 2 inch OME lift isn't a bad idea for the money. I got some really awesome mud tires on amazon for $127 a piece.
@scottmerry1459
5 жыл бұрын
At 33s and stock gears, you'll really only lose overdrive on the freeway or on subtle climbs. If you are up for regearing, go to 315s with 4.88s. It really isn't that much more work. See Sonoran Steel's FAQ.
@Opt.Offroad
5 жыл бұрын
Scott Merry 4.88s are not enough gearing for 315s, even for DDers. If you’re doing the work might as well do it right and get 5.29s
