3rd Gen 4Runner Lift

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

3rd gen 4runner lift. In this video, I show you how I installed a suspension lift on my 3rd Gen Toyota 4runner (96-02). The process is very similar to many other Toyota vehicles including Tacoma,
FJ Cruiser and newer 4Runners. I'm running 285/75/R16 which measure out to about 32.8"
I used Bilstein 5100 shocks and struts, Ome 2883 coils front & 2890 rear.
Total Lift: Front should be 3" lift and rear should be 3-3.5" lift depending on weight.
*Bilstein 24-248730 & 24-249966 Pair of B8 5100 Front & Rear Monotube Shocks for 96-02 Toyota 4Runner
Sway bar end links ( front 3rd gen 4runner links to the rear) ( rear 2nd gen 4runner links to front)

    Nice camera angles! Visualises nicely how it's done. How do those 883's ride? They are the heaviest spring for the 3rd gen with heavy bumpers, right? So they would have a lot of preload when on the shock, no? I'm looking for the smoothest off-road ride and can't really find comfort related reviews, it seems everyone is just concerned with lift.

    Once the wheels were put on I don't have spacers. Today I'm filming a walk around video on my truck and my nephews who I wheel with. Well go over all these things. I'll drop that video mid or later in the week.

    Hey Kelly, was curious if you considered the 2000-2006 tundra coils up front with bilsteins. Just researching and seeing multiple people with your same set up and ones with the tundra coils. What were your thoughts or research on the two lifts for the front? Hope that makes sense ..Thanks

    I definitely have heard of that before. My setup definitely seems to donthe trick. That being said, I'm going to be switching to landcruiser rear springs, they are fairly tall but I plan to carry a fair amount of weight.

    The 5100 shocks you put on the rear state they are for a 0-2" lift. The 2890's provide a 2.5"-3" lift. Are there any real issues with using a longer coil on those shocks? I ask because I used the same shocks when I installed FJ cruiser coils on my 3rd gen, and now I would like to go with a 3" coil due to added weight in my cargo area.

  • @Beacon_Offroad

    @Beacon_Offroad

    Those springs are definitely closer to 2.5" not 3 forsure. No issues on a handful of 3rd gens. Most who go above 3" or closer to 4 run the land cruiser shocks as they are longer.

    @@Beacon_Offroad to clarify, are the shocks you are using the ones made for the 3rd gen, or are they the ones usually advertised as extended travel (4th gen/FJ cruiser shocks)? Sorry to bug you man, I'm just strongly considering going with the 2890's on the 3rd gen specific 5100 shocks.

    Was the steering behavior affected after you lifted your runner? I lifted my 1996 Limited as per your video and now my steering feels a lot different. The steering wheel does not exactly want to return to the center position on its own. I did not go to bigger tires yet!! Could this be affecting the steering??
