3D Printing Stocks Plummet. Here's Why.

Three 3D printing stocks are down 93% leaving investors wondering how this could possibly happen and whether there's any remaining value to be had here. We've been watching Desktop Metal stock since they became a unicorn and they're not the same company they started out as. We've covered DM stock extensively and continue to avoid it. As for Velo3D stock, everyone wants to know why it cratered. Well, it has something to do with SpaceX and some real shoddy debt. We wouldn't touch VLD stock with a 20-foot pole. Finally there's Markforged stock which is too small to be on our radar, but probably the best of the lot. We just can't figure out why consumable are falling. We'd avoid MKFG stock based on stalling revenue growth and their small size.

    The problem with 3D printing is scale. Yes, like you shared in that Bloomberg article. 3D-Printing Factory, i.e., we need a factory size 3D-printer, that is the scale we are talking about. Or one has to go distributed, meaning arm the rebels, arm everyone (or as much as possible) with 3D-printers. However, in the case of metal, ironically building a factory size 3D-printer is way easier comparing to convincing some rando on the street to buy one and put it into your home. It's even quite hard to convince a medium size businesses to buy one.

    You're most welcome! Not sure what the next move will be for DM but they need to resume growth. Their latest investor deck talks about 3D bioprinting and healthcare, yet doesn't even mention what's happening with their original value proposition. Should we assume that's off the table now? Very surprised to see no analyst questions around this.

    Is being delisted from the NYSE a real danger for 2024? DM really cratered. Even with a reverse stock split it will be difficult

  • @Nanalyze

    @Nanalyze

    5 ай бұрын

    Each exchange will have different rules and companies usually (and perhaps are required to) notify the public when delisting is a danger. We don't follow these companies that closely to know where that sits. Usually a reverse split can keep a listing, but then some exchanges have market cap and liquidity rules too.

    Take the time to make a decision and then do so with conviction. It's not binary outcome. If you are deciding between holding and selling, you can do some or all. Or you can buy shares if your thesis hasn't changed. It's important to have a thesis and an exit plan. Even then, you'll face tough decisions. The joys of investing ;)

    DM has ctiny gross margin. It's to small that i wonder if the best case scenario is a pretty low ceiling. I also think the management are probably incompetent. All the fast growth and no respect for the possibility of macro risks. Acquiring instead of consolidating. Thinking they are invincible. Ego driven decisions perhaps. I did not study the company deeply but it looks pretty bad.

    @@Nanalyze not so much, and not so big problems as it looks like. Because to be honest, your research is quite false. As you are only focused on the P-50 and ignoring all practicallity of novel manufacturing integration, metal binder jet in this sense. Which can take some extra years still, yes it is not as plug and play as marketing videos wants you to think. But with that, you are also ignoring all other brands, materials, binders and printers. For example, SMAX and Exerial have way way more consumables cc/hr then a P-50, and these are machines used already in production, wich also took 5 years to start being succesfull deployed when they where novel untill now. There are more pillars like this, and this video overlooked every single one of them, because its mainly focused on the P-50 Yes DM has to continue working on profitability and promisses, wich I think they can, even in this macro environment, but mkfg and vld are having way bigger problems Did you know, that dm their SPAC plan was to dilute, raise money, offer stock to aquire as much companies as possible? That was their main goal. I just bought recent weeks because I knew what that plan would mean towards the stock price and now the ship is about to turn positivly towards stock price favorable - a guy with years in paper b2b print experience (same processes and concepts as 3d print), had meetings with 3D print companies and attended 3D print fairs. Let me know if your open for an open discussion about all the technicals arround these machines and processes

    How can you expect a growth-oriented company to cut costs and achieve revenue growth in a situation where the overnight interest rates set by the Federal Reserve are so high? The financial reports and conference meetings of DM over several quarters have clearly outlined their plan for significant cost reduction in 2023, aiming to swiftly move towards profitability. How does a company aggressively cutting costs plan to achieve revenue growth, especially in the context of a contracting overall market in the Jingrong region? I perceive your video deliberately amplifies the negative aspects of DM while intentionally overlooking the favorable arguments. To me, this seems like a video with malicious intent.

  • @Nanalyze

    @Nanalyze

    7 ай бұрын

    Try addressing the points of contention raised in this video - along with the numerous other articles and videos we've written over the years about DM - instead of making excuses for this poorly-run mess of a company. And your little jab at the end there is a red flag in itself. It's exactly the sort of thing we hear from cheerleaders who attack the messenger instead of addressing the facts they don't like to hear. There's nothing favorable about a growth company that can't grow.
