    Make push impeller. It will self tighten against the shaft. Axial blowers are good for high flow but low pressure. This makes it good for low resistance applications. Centrifugal impeller is better for high pressure drop applications allowing good flow for long ducts.

    I love all the effort and multiple skills you put into your work. Enjoy those abilities while you can. I am at the age where it is a battle to stay awake or even focus enough to do my electronics prototyping. I am too old for even energy drinks to work anymore. Lol!

    Also try incorporating guide vane into the motor mount. 3 or 4 aerofoils would be enough to return airflow to linear after exiting the fan. This should improve the flow characteristics and is a common feature to bypass turbine fan engines. It is very promising to see the fan becoming effective over 80% and leaving motor shaft. More power waiting for a small design change!

    Take a look at radio controlled aircraft and how they attach a prop to a motor for some great ideas on how best to get your fan mounted and working. Tip is to print the nose cone separate from the main fan body so that you can properly attach the fan to the shaft. Preferably your shaft will have a threaded hole in the end that you can screw into with a lock washer. Finish by snapping your nose cone on and you should be able to easily archive the speeds you need and not have your fan fly off.

    You can add wing profile on the 3 legs of the motor bracket, to improve air flow after the propeler.

    I can support the statement. I built a fan with a PC fan and without an air duct to the propeller too much energy is lost in the rotation. directly behind the propeller a vortex is created which builds up excess pressure and obstructs the flow. After the rotation, the air should be led through the propeller in the opposite direction. that had greatly improved my results.

    I believe that shallower angle of attack on the fins would trade airflow for pressure. Also you could greatly reduce noise by performing dynamic balancing !

    On my old laser I installed a small aquarium air pump and laser cut a jig to hold it to blow on where the laser was cutting. Effectively what I was doing was blowing the smoke of the material away from the cutting laser beam so when it had to cut it wasnt weakened/defused by the particles in the air before getting to the object I was cutting

    An airhorn on the inlet will increase flow. Laminar flow airfoils on motor mount. Could also use a larger pvc tube for the exhaust tube.

    Nice design. As a few others have suggested, I think your impeller pitch is too steep, make the blades shallower and consider adding in a suitably angled stator to help reduce exhaust swirling and convert some of the rotation of the air back into velocity. You can make a simple propeller balancer using some bearings and shaft and get the impeller nicely balanced to reduce vibration.

    Maybe you should use a "Motor Prop Adapater (Collet Type)" or buy a brushless motor with a threaded shaft so that you can better fix the fan to it. The second option is better becouse those adapters I first mentioned are known for be prone to bending. Nice project! Good luck!

    Another great video my young friend! Fan/impeller design is a whole subject on its own. I think most ducted fan designs incorporate a curvature of the trailing edge. That reduces turbulence and inefficiency. I purchased the terminal crimper you recommended and I love it! Thanks 😊

    Nice job!! I really enjoy your videos. I discovered you not to long ago, but I wish find more like you around here. Just one thing, I have no to much idea about propellers, but there is one thing I know after many times trying to print a good one, maybe it's me, but they always fails. Sometimes after a while, but when they do, always are espectacular at the same time that it's dangerous. I really recommend you to buy a propeller o a big fan for your project. But it's just my opinion. Thanks for sharing!!

    Cześć, jeżeli chodzi o wentylator, to sugerował bym użyć śmigła pchającego a nie ciągnącego - śmigło ( albo turbina) będzie wtedy dociskać się sama do silnika i nie będzie spadać. Możesz spróbować też zakrzywić bardziej łopaty, da to większe ciśnienie statyczne + czytałem kiedyś, że najbardziej efektywne turbiny mają 7 łopat, ale to tylko myśl. Ogólnie popracowałbym nad dobraniem turbiny do silnika eksperymentalnie - nie przeciążyć silnika zbyt dużą turbiną a tym samym nie marnować jego potencjału zbyt małą. Jeżeli chodzi o kształt turbiny wypróbuj inne kąty natarcia łopat + jeżeli masz dużą moc to nawet możesz turbinę zmodyfikować, aby zewnętrzna część zachodziła na rotor w silniku, da to też większą stabilność i większe tarcie między elementami silnika a turbiną- zamiast małego wałka podtrzymującego będziesz mieć większą powierzchnię styku, tylko musisz też pamiętać o chłodzeniu czyli połączenie na harmonijkę, nie wiem jak to lepiej nazwać. Podsumowując najlepiej wykonaj testy jaką moc bierze silnik i jakie obroty ma przy określonej turbinie (wykonaj parę modeli) i wybrał bym mocniejszy zasilacz. Jak coś niezrozumiale napisałem , to napisz mi w komentarzu, to przyślę Ci rysunki tego, o czym tutaj napisałem. Pozdrawiam Stasiek P.S. Jeżeli potrzebujesz duży przepływ, a małe ciśnienie to może zrób turbinę jaka jest w odciągach solarskich.

    9:05 to make turbine suitable for bigger throttle and prevent it from disattaching you could do several things: 1. Increase central mass and reduce it on the outer of the turbine to prevent wobbling caused by centrifugal force 2. Make mold form and cast it from the epoxy resin in vaccum chamber to make sure turbine has well distributed mass or at least print it in lower layer height (or both so the mold made from well printed model), also worth notice that epoxy resin usually is more resistant to stretching ~30 N/mm2 vs ~22N/mm2 for PLA 3. Use some threadlock glue, low or medium strenght like loctite 222 or loctite 242 4. Use some proppeler adapter/hub instead attaching 3d printed part directly to the shaft of the bldc motor so exactly how properels were attached to your drone, i know the one that you were using might not be suitable(at least without adjusting turbine model), but there are bigger ones available online (ps. doing that will also fulfill 1st point) Ofcourse you can combine all of those points. Anyway nice channel I hope you will contine working on that project ^^ Powodzenia ;) Ps.     If you put a taper on the back of the stator motor mounts then there will be less turbulence and noise and you should get a pressure output due to more efficient recovery of static pressure after the "restriction".

    If you sweep/curve your blades forwards and your stator motor mount backwards, then they will overlap progressively rather than periodically which should reduce noise spikes.

    If you turn the fan around & reverse the voltage, the fan will push itself onto the shaft preventing it from coming off.

    for accurate measurement of air flow....attach a pipe to the outlet side of fan about 10 feet in length, the air flow reduction is caused by the internal friction inside the flex pipe you were using... the smoother the inside of the discharge pipe the less friction, the flex pipe used has very high internal friction.. u need a meter magnehelic gage to read the inside friction of your chosen pipe, you can build a PITO TUBE { water tube or sometimes called U tube manometer } for reading the pressure, drill a hole in the discharge pipe the size of the nozzle to take measurement... to find the total external pressure of the fan.. install 10 foot piece of pipe on discharge of fan and 5 foot piece of pipe on inlet side of fan.. drill hole in each pipe insert tube from what ever static measuring device you choose, this will give a reading total external static pressure. i really enjoyed this video

    Since you are using an axial Compressor a good idea is to have a stator after that to convert some turbulence into straight velocity for the air. Another design is to have a series of Rotors and stators while incorporating IGVs/OGVs(Inlet Guide vanes/Outlet guide vanes). After that, consider using a rising meridian line design for that extra pressure gain. After that it is a case of studying the pressure gradient formation and the channel losses created by such phenomenons as the tip or hub passage vortex and the wakes. Using a forward sweep design can negate some of them. For starters, i would dry and then wet sand the surfaces and only then would i continue with a more theoretical approach. Also if you want to make your life easy, search for velocity triangles turbomachinary.

    @@takeittothegrave6302 No, you absolutely need nothing like that. Start of on a piece of paper. Define the working conditions, and after that proceed with the velocity triangles, blade geometries from NACA etc and then and only then you may enter a 3d design space. You should also consider bearing loads and calculations if you use a shaft design. These can be done on paper, with KISSsoft or you can pay your bearing provider. Again, this can be done quite rapid by hand, no design space necessary, just a schematic

    I have a 4 fan Turbine, it is a square with 4 6v motors (the car toy ones) , it make kind of pasive suction with my resin 3d printer, that i have in a wood box. Just saying maybe can help.

    The fan blade is pulling itself off the motor shaft at high revs. This could be remedied by putting the motor the other side of the fan - so the fan would be pushing itself onto the motor shaft instead. You could also get higher flow rates by running multiple stages - with the output of one fan feeding into the input of another - as yours are much less expensive than the "off the shelf" ones in the video. Interesting video, as always.

    I was thinking of building something like this but with a smaller fan and body diameter with a smaller tube like outlet nozzle. The usecase I had in mind is for blowing air via the flexible cnc air assist nozzle. Would this type of solution be capable of blowing chips when cutting wood/aluminium etc?

    Maybe you can use a "set screw" to fix the propeller. To avoid possible imbalances you can use 2 or 4 of them, separated 180° or 90° degrees respectively

    I would definitely not recommend that. Especially for a high RPM applications. It'd be much better off using a jam washer. The optimum though would be to print the impeller using fiber reinforced nylon and use a press fit to attach it. The fiber reinforced nylon should have just enough give to allow it to stretch over the shaft, and the fiber will bite the shaft giving much higher friction than normal.

    ​@@Unmannedair Set screws for propellers are a common solution to fix it to the shaft. Many other options can be tried, especially if the expected speed is above 5,000 RPM or so, but for these applications, I think set screws are the quickest and easiest solutions. I am not an expert on this. I only give an opinion...

    change the shape of blades for increase attack angle of blade and if you use centrifugal fan,the pressure drop on long of canal will be decrease

    Be careful when dealing with a plastic propeller and a powerful motor as the plastic can shatter (explode) on high RPMs.

    You could flip the motor and reverse the turbine blade angle. That way the turbine would push against the motor at high speeds and won't pop off. Also you could buy a cheap gt2 pulley off aliexpress, pop off the ring and (heat?) press the gears into matching cutouts of the turbine, leaving the hub with the grubscrews exposed. It's often done in the 3D printing world, people print a large pulley and use the small aluminium pulley as a hub to securely attach it to the shafz. Last saw this with belted extruders (voron or sth.). Also for not much more money you can get an ect or (bl) ducted fan, like thise used in RC jet planes, saving you all the aforementioned troubles xD

    Sounds like a good idea to solve the problem with the turbine and quite simple, maybe placing the components in a different order because of that change would also increase airflow. I am afraid that it would be hard to balance with GT2 pulley (usually there are 2 locking screws at 90-degree angle) Thanks a lot!

    @@nikodembartnik These pulleys come with many bore sizes. With an an avervage precision motor shaft it should't be an issue to center it unless you're talking about balancing weight distribution but if you truly want to tackle that, the 3D-printed propeller/turbine is the 1st to go out the window Or you can buy an outrunner bl motor. Those provide more torque and often have screwholes on both the stator faceplate and the outrunner rotor. Screw the stator faceplate to the motorholder and screw(!) the turbine/propeller to the rotor. No pulleys and no propeller/turbine blades flying off 👍🏻 But then that would be identical to an ect / ducted fan which is probably only 5 bucks more than the outrunner motor. But I would still enjoy a video of a printed one ^^ My pleasure, thx for the great content 👍🏻

    You need to balance the turbine then it will work better. That's how they test turbochargers they spin them and balance the turbine or the compressor wheel or sometimes both.

    you need correct gauge wire for 775 motor otherwise your wire is too small, will get hot and melt under long load .

    The Chinese will sell you a 4" EC (electronically commutative) inline fan with a metal housing and speed controller which can dial in any speed from 0-100% for a very reasonable price these days it's both *VERY* powerful and it doesn't use as much wattage as the regular AC inline fans.

    Innym pomysłem który może zapobiec zsuwaniu się wirnika z silnika może być zpiłowanie ośki(silnika) w jednym miejścu oraz użycie śruby dociskowej (grub screw).

    W innych przypadkach takie coś jak najbardziej by działało ale ze względu na prędkość obrotową tutaj musiałbym dać 2 śruby naprzeciwko siebie i wkręcić je dokładnie tak samo. Inaczej cały wirnik byłby źle wyważony

    Thanks! With 775 motor it works great with no balancing at all. With BLDC sometimes when you hit a specific frequency everything starts to vibrate like crazy but when you increase the throttle a bit more it's fine

    brushless is better and mor powerful. But you should make a proper fan or better yet a centrifugal fan with probably some flow restrictions to improve static pressure. Other than that you need to properly balance your propeller and make sure the motor has enough air flow to cool itself and the mounting bracket can withstand the temperature and forces (because of creep) Im in the process of also finding an alternative to an industrial extractor because of price, so id recomend going brushless (because of low maintenance and efficiency) and try reading a few books on propeller design, there are plenty on genlib or other online libraries. that should give you some ideas, and also you can use solidworks for the flow simulations, its not that hard to do and its fairly accurate

    You're RPM limited due to the centrifugal force on the blades increasing the effective diameter. If you link the tips together with a ring then you should be able to get a tighter fit with higher RPM to increase performance.

    Hello, there is an error in your design that caught my eye. The smoke from the Laser Cutter is highly toxic and dirty. Most of the dirty dust will stick to the engine. Therefore, you should develop a method to protect the engine from this dust. Good luck.

Motor supports are all wrong, turn 90 degrees to align with air flow, or even better, curve them to scoop the rotating air and straighten it back to pure axial flow, like the stator blades in a jet engine. 2. The cross section of the blades should be a airfoil with a slight camber, and the angle of attack should vary with radius like an aircraft propeller 3. Design an adjustable connection for each blade so that you can vary the pitch and then adjust for optimal flow rate. This easy with a split hub, front and back with sockets for each blade root. 4. For easy optimisation, mount the fan on a trolley and measure relative thrust using a simple string over a pulley suspending a water bottle, measuring water level at equilbrium. 5. mismatch blade number vs support number by one eg . 3 supports , 4 blades, this gives vernier effect and will reduce noise .

    Connect a Nitrogen bottle to your laser. It avoids flames and reduces the fumes. Because the air is very compressible, it is not simple to measure the flow by hand. I would recommend to do each measure at least 10, better 50 times. You could design different types of propellers and then do some airflow analysis with Fusion360 per some other FEM tool.     An "Inline Centrifugal Duct Fan" is something i need so i can replicate "Tech Ingredients" 's Dessicant-Humidifier Cycle HVAC, so Open Source Hardware projects like this would be great !

    The tiny bldc shrieking must be unbearable. Do you really need such a fast airflow just to empty the small volume of the laser cutter? The 775 looks just fine to me. Just attach the propeller decently and add vanes to help establish a linear flow back.

    Definitely agree, but first and foremost I think this is a really good video cos he is trying out some ideas I had, but I now see where I may succeed or fail. Second, that motor is housed inside the duct system so that means that as he is using his powder coating setup, that 775 motor probably has a built in cooling fan within it that will suck in the powder coating fumes and particles which will clog up and destroy that motor (probably sooner than later). I guess the ideal design is where the motor isn't exposed to dust, fumes, particles, etc... as it's running

    Maybe you can reach out to the KZreadr "Major Hardware" He got a line of videos called fan Showdown and it is about the fan that is cooling the best. I would geuss strong cooling and moving a Lot of air could be very close to each other

    There is a difference between air flow and static pressure, I would guess that static pressure is more important for long tubes
