I was fascinated by this type of gearbox and always wanted to make one. This type of gearbox is one of the most used in industrial robots. This type of gearbox only has a single reduction (in this case 2 because of the belt reduction) with a very high reduction ratio. Because of the single stage reduction there's almost no tolerance/play between input and output shaft. Conventional gearboxes use more gears to achieve the same reduction ratio, the tolerances between the gears add up resulting in greater tolerances/play between the input and output shaft.
This type of gearbox is mostly used in servo systems used in industrial robotics and space applications.
Here are some specifications of the gearbox:
Max tested torque at 12V: 41.3kg*cm or 4N*m
Total reduction ratio = 54:1
Disclaimer: I do not own the Dodge Charger shown in the video, i was just fortunate enough to borrow it for a limited time 😅. (I really wished I owned one though).

It was fun to see you address the various weaknesses, and funny that the zip-tie (helped secure the motor) made the final cut👍

Yeah the zip-tie was just the most straightforward and effective way to keep the motor in place without redesigning everything. I will keep this issue in mind when designing a newer version 😜

I was thinking about something like this for an onboard motorcycle winch. The new Trek e-bike with the tiny TQ harmonic pin gearbox/motor with 50 NM of torque is very similar to this and is what sparked my interest recently.

Great project again. One thing disturb me just a little bit, the Arduino board in a special PCB. You can use single chip like an Arduino, and it looks much better. Of course in your solution you can use same Arduino for every project.

You can make a winch that can be used when loading a motorcycle into a car. I would like to recommend it to KZreadrs who run Honda N-VAN with Super Cub.

Am I correct in thinking that if the flex spline were fixed in position (unable to rotate) the outer ring gear would be driven instead?

You could probably make these and sell them to companies that make small trucks cars and jeeps for kids to tool around the yard in it 5 to 7 mph with one of these on the front they would have a real winch and you would probably be rich just an idea.
