3D Printed Air-Raid Siren

( Advise volume caution )
3D printed Siren, Designed off the old dual, slotted WW2 design. Everything was made in solidworks, spliced by Simplify3D, Printed on a Wanhao Duplicator i3 printer. Parts done at 0.20mm layer height, 60mm/sec printing speed. Parts took between 2-4 hours to print ( each )
Sounded like a toy fire-truck with one blade. Sounds like a siren with two. Fairly happy with the design, the RPMs on here go much higher than needed, I only pushed it to 50% throttle, and it had no problems. 50% throttle ( to me ) sounded too high pitch / unrealistic. I will eventually arduino a 'Siren wind-up / wind-down' program, and try to mimic the real-deal as close as possible.

    Is this thing still used today or have they switched to sms or something similar to it? Btw where are they located? Never seen one on a roof top and I have been on lots of roof tops. Even some roof tops I am technically not allowed on. No means yes. I do it for the view. Take a drink and chill. Although I have never searched for one.

    In my city in north western Germany we have lot of them (Model E57) Used for Fire services or warnings. On the roof of the post office, firebrigade, water tower and on several schoolbuildings....the eastfrisian islands also have some placed on concrete masts around the island. And in my city they start those things every Saturday at 12AM

    The problem is, this was made for very specific 'what i had laying around' parts, and was not at all made to be 'universal / consumer friendly' where anyone can come along, print it, and expect it to work. This may have generic RC Quadcopter motors in it, but the screws used was literally whatever I had laying around,measured with calipers, works for me. In order to run this, I had the motors tapped into the flight-controller of my quadcopter, and controlled it with a Taranis FrSky X9D remote. So.. its not like I can say 'Buy a 400 dollar quadcopter and a 300 dollar remote, then print this, and do this' Only reason i never uploaded it, was because i didnt want to put time into bothering with peoples 'Help this doesnt fit this motor can you alter this?' Or people somehow failing to construct it and having really high RPM plastic explode all over...

    Cool siren! It has two tones, right? I see a slight difference in the gap-width between the one on the left and the one on the right. You most probably already know of them, but on youtube you can look for the Broadmoor siren videos from Matt in England. How fast do you think it can go, before any problems occur with the 3D printed parts? Or is it really stiff/sturdy?

    Most parts were done in under 2-3 hours each. So probably about 12 hours at most. Isnt too big and usually printing around a speed of 80. This was a random 1 day thing for me. Meaning, modeled it, printed it, assembled it, in a day. Often I dont keep files for day projects as everything sits unsaved cuz its just making stuff to prove a concept and now that I know the prints can handle RPMs i sarted the actual project for that use, which wasnt sirens.

  • @PhxSt0rmz
    @PhxSt0rmz4 жыл бұрын

    Posting complaints on "No files" Doesnt get files. Just proves the community behind thingiverse is fairly toxic and full of freeloaders which is why I prefer to avoid the site at all cost. Learn to design stuff yourself. Dont know how? Great - a 3D printer is your opportunity to motivate yourself and learn how. Telling someone to go F yourself because you dont give away work shows lack of appreciation. The 20+ comments regarding such is 20 reasons to remove this video. This was a proof of concept, a hazard risk of exploding plastic shards that in the wrong hands will cause problems. "Natural selection, let the dumb be dumb" maybe your thoughts? That's not how I play. Shit I release, doesnt come with risk. Pestering/complaining, just makes me not care. This was a long-dead project. Theres 500+ diagrams and physical sirents out there to literally reference. Video status is pending. I dont depend on youtube, I hardly use the platform anymore, I dont do anything for the views. Zero interests, so complaining will easily make a decision of hey, if to doesnt exist then you cant complain ya? Awesome!

I dont have this around anymore because quiet honestly, I dont trust 3D prints at high RPMs. Nowadays I could much easier cut this out of 1/2" wood on a laser cutter and make a much stronger one.
