Great tutorial, thanks a lot! It would be interesting to use this set up to show how to move the camera in a dynamic way / what cool things to do with it :)

Really cool! I don't have Toon Boom but these concepts can be applied to Blender grease pencil.

There are some tutorials about that on KZread. But trust me, it takes forever and it’s worth it only for big projects.

Did you set the layer property "Enable 3D" which the doc says "Allows the layer to be rotated and scaled in 3D. This means it can be rotated on the X and Y axes and scaled on the Z axis."

Not yet! That’s next time. I wanted to show how far it can be pushed without needing to enable that switch

The Harmony Reference manual, in the section on the Coordinates Toolbar, says "By default the Z value field is disabled. It will automatically become active when the 3D option is enabled." What 3D option is that referring to? The only 3D option I know of is checkbox in the peg? I do not see one in preferences. It must be enabled for me because even when I nudge I see that Z value change. @@OnionSkin In the Coordinates Toolbar that shows the Sum of Z is not helpful and even misguiding because it only has 2 decimal places and nudges do not show up.

Well, this tutorial is helpful, but it’s not really 3D. My team and I are synchronising 2D and 3D animation (for the environment), and our techniques aren’t very effective. We render out 2D animation and put the characters on transparent planes. Occasionally, we just eyeball the 2D character’s position in front of the moving 3D background. It would be great to find out more about different and better approaches. Once, I was lucky enough to talk to an engineer (some people call them riggers, but this sounds almost like an insult to that guy) from Soyuzmultfilm. He told me that it’s possible to import a camera from After Effects (and it’s easy to export a camera from Maya and Max to After Effects). However, he also told me that it’s impossible to bring any locators into Harmony from any other software. Even Chat GPT gave up on that. Onion Skin, don’t tell me that our caveman-methods with rendering the characters out and using planes in 3D is the best way to go.

This is great feedback and I’ll change the title to lessen confusion. It’s a deeper topic that’s probably too specific for a video in the immediate future but send me an email or Discord DM and I’ll see if I can help you out

@@OnionSkin No worries, my team is doing well, but thanks for your assistance anyway! However, the animation community will be grateful if you could share your thoughts regarding bringing the 3D environment and 2D animation. You know, some Blender users brag that they can combine both worlds effortlessly since their 2D animation editor is basically an add-on for the main program. Maybe it’s time to switch? Every now and then, we keep joking that bringing cameras and locators to Harmony is a closely guarded secret that’s only known to the biggest studios and anyone who tries to make it public, will suddenly disappear! So, please, do be careful. Disney’s agents might be anywhere.
